Does the job
May 08, 2011
Used these gaiters in 2-4 feet high snow in the Alps (7 days straight) and they did a pretty good job of keeping the snow out and my legs/ feet dry. I would not give them 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1) Difficult to do up the velcro without little kinks that let in snow (usually takes a couple of attempts) - I have found zippered ones to be easier and more efficient to put on - this might sound minor, but when you have to put gaiters on 3 times a day for every occasion you go out, it does make a difference. 2) The buckle at the top is not the best and has come undone a few times Overall a solid product, but minor improvements could be made...
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great valueFebruary 27, 2011
Early usage has been very satisfactory. The belt strap is set and secured. It does not allow for slipping while using. The velcro clasp makes for easy on/off. The sizing chart is a little confusing. It is sized for boots and not shoes. Not very helpful when purchasing as a gift for snowshoers who don't wear boots but rather shoes when they snowshoe.
Pros: Ease of useDurable

I have two pairs of these gaitors, because they work so well. My first pair are the originals and are somewhere around ten or so years; with the second pair being six years old. I use the older pair about 40 hrs per winter for offtrack xc-skiing and the newer pair probably 150 hrs per winter for back country xc and snowshoeing. I don't baby these, they're just gear; but they're great gear that I rely on. For example, I've been thru thin ice (beaver ponds) three times this winter and between my quick scampering, goretex boots, and the gaitors' goretex, my feet stayed dry! My wife has two pairs, and our best friends are also wearing them. I highly recommend these.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGreat Price for a great product

Living on the east coast you ether get a lot of snow or none at all This year has been Outstanding for snow, That's if you like the cold weather and snow, but always be prepared. these gaiters are great, they are very light and most important very secure , this my second pair and can't wait for the next snow storm. If you ever had snow go down your boots you'll know what I mean.
Pros: Great design, Great valueNice!

For a lighter gaiter, these are awesome. I hike mostly in the smokies where I don't feel I always need a gaiter. So, I wanted to have the option of carrying them around in my backpack. These do the trick. They're easy to put on, water resistant, and look good. If you're considering a lot of hiking in snow, you might consider something a little more durable, but for my purposes- light, occasional use, these work great.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useperfect gaiters

These simple but well-designed gaiters fit nicely, adjust easily, and have been very dry and durable. In a world of mediocre (yet similarly priced) gaiters, these are the ones to get.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGreat year round product

Great pair of gaiters. I initially purchased them for snow shoeing but have been using them pretty much year round. Have had them for about 3 years and they barely show any wear on fabric and hardware. I have the M size and it is a perfect fit for my size 8.5 Asolo Powermatic backpacking boots.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valuegreat in the snow!

I use these snow shoeing and in the mud. they kept my pants dry and snow from going down Into my shoes. the velcro makes them easy on and easy off. great price too. they seem a little big to size. I got XL should of been a L.
Great gaiters, wrong size
March 19, 2010
I bought these OR Verglas Gaiters because I had used a friends pair before while snowshoeing and loved them. They are great for keeping the bottom part of the leg dry if your either in snow or just wet places and don't feel like wearing rain pants. I was disappointed at the sizing issue I had. I wear a size 12 boot which is clearly an XL gaiter on their chart but these are a good bit too big. Since you can't really tell how big they are when they are still together I ended up taking them off their packaging to try them on and found out I couldn't return them after that which is slightly frustrating. Overall a great product, just need to shoot for a size smaller.
Great gators!

I'd recommend these to anyone looking to avoid rock, mud, and water from getting into their boots, or on the side of their pants during those muddy weather hikes.
Excellent product...

I use these for all types of snow and I think they are great. They really keep the snow out of your boots and keep your pant legs dry.

I use these to backpack, and these well-built gaiters are a godsend when fording streams or hitting puddles after storms. Straps are easy to put on, and keep the gaiters from coming loose. Well priced, too!

Spending 50% of my time in the backcountry for work, I have high expectations for my gear. I ordered several types of gaiters for my field crew, including the verglas. the pros: -options other than black - keeps the heat down -breathable nylon upper, hardy material near the boot, tough under-boot strap - excellent for snow, mud, and dust (just not so much grass seeds) cons -would be better if the top had an elastic adjustment. -the velcro quickly catches and accumulates grass seeds and stickers. better if it had a zipper closure. -needs more boot coverage to keep grass seeds and stickers out of boot laces Overall, good gaiter for winter, but just "ok" for backcountry summer.

As an archaeologist I purchased a set of these gaiters not just for me but also for my wife who is also an archaeologist. These are great for keeping mud and dust from our boots and also for stopping poison ivy from getting all over our clothing and boots. I also agree that the top should be elasticated to help keep them tight. Apart from that they have been a great buy.
Quality Gaiter, Didn't fit
June 15, 2007
Quality lightweight gaiter, but the top didn't close around my legs, leaving a gap. if you have skinny legs, you may want to consider the regular crocs or mountain hardwear gaiters that close better up top.
Ideal for my snowshoeing...
April 20, 2007
I've been snowshoeing several times and this time was hands down, my best experience, because of my new Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiters. My feet were not wet afterwards, which kept me warmer. My pant legs stayed dry even in the deeper powder. Love these gaiters would recommend them to anyone.
Good gaiter, needs more elastic
January 03, 2007
Compared to my 12 year old no-brand gaiters, these have far better material quality, fit the shoes better, and didn't encourage sweat...however, the top calf strap should be elastic in order to maintain tightness and not fold down a couple of inches after some miles of use...

i can wear them on any style of shoes i own and they're fully adjustable. Excellent for bad weather. They take a couple of minutes to put on though. Also totally waterproof.
