Nice Winter Hat
November 08, 2011
Nice hat for rain, snow and cold weather. The bill is longer than I like, but since I wear glasses this is a good thing. The zipper, when flap is folded up, does not dig into my head. You can't go wrong with OR or Altrec.

Great hat for cold/ rain protection

This hat works well for head/ear protection from wind/snow and rain. Adjusts for a great fit, fleece lining for warmth and comfort. Great thermal protection from biting wind. Black looks great with dress coat/ business attire.

Perfect cold weather cap

This is the perfect cap for cold and windy days. The nylon shell and fleece lining combination keep your head warm even on the breeziest days. I like the drawstring hatband that keeps the cap snugly on the noggin. Thanks Altrec!

Good for my purposes

I actually bought this (black) hat to use as a soccer referee in the Southern California winters, especially when raining. I like the zip on/off ear flaps for extra warmth. I was a bit disappointed that the hat was very uncomfortable with the ear flaps tucked under, but no big deal since they zip out. I did use the hat on a recent hike, and it was perfect for the cool evening.

i like the product. it warms your ear when its cold. specially now its winter time. i got XL.little tight co'z material doesn't stretch. but overall great hat. can't wait to give it a test when it is snowing and rainning. also on summer time if the product is breathable. thank you altrec!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts foreverLove It!

I like the farmer hat function with the tech style. Great in 25 to 40 degree air with lots of wind. Looking forward to trying it without the ear band when it gets warmer.

good quality ,but very uncomfortable, as the zipper for the flaps digs into your head.
Cons: Bad designPerfect for rainy winter days in the Pacific Northwest

I wanted a waterproof hat with ear flaps that offered great rain protection. I first tried the OR Hat for All Seasons but the brim is not very big and didn't keep rain out of my face. It is also very warm, good in cold weather but not so good in the 40's. The Prismatic hat is perfect for my needs. The brim is very wide and offers great rain protection. It is warm with the ear flaps down and can be worn with the ear flaps up without unzipping them. In warmer weather the flaps can be taken off and the external drawcord adjustment means you always have a great fit.
Great Running Cap

Lighweight yet keeps my head nice and warm & dry. The ear flaps are amazing for really chilly weather, but i like that they can be removed when not needed
Almost Perfect

Outdoor Research makes some really great hats for being in the great outdoors. This is one of them. I have hiked in this hat in lots of cold weather and even some milder weather and it performs wonderfully. When you sweat, it will dry really fast. When it is cold and windy you are pretty well protected. I love having the brim to block the sun and being able to protect my ears from the wind. The only thing I do not like is the "take off" ear band. The zipper end will dig into your head if the hat is not set just perfect. OR: Loose the zipper and you have got a pretty perfect hat. Just make the earband fold up into the hat. It will do that now but the zipper will dig in. Also, it can look a little goofy, but hey, it is not a fashon show on the trail.

Perfect cap!

This cap is great! Really keeps my head warm and dry, out fishing in the rain in Oregon. The fleece inside is warm. And the hat fits well, not to tight, even my long hair fits up underneath. I love that the ear flaps can be removed too.
GREAT HAT!

Zipper creates a tight, uncomfortable band.
August 31, 2009
I'm returning this because the zipper creates a tight, uncomfortable band and makes this LG hat feel small. This zipper is also a little high, making the tight part of the hat fall on the roundest part of my head, so it slips up. Can't wear a ponytail with this. I HEART OUTDOOR RESEARCH hats because they come in sizes, and LG is always my size. It's very very well put together with beautiful fabric. I really need a bill + earflaps for the dry, windy, sunny, winters where I live; Gore-tex is a really nice touch for unexpected wet weather. Would LOVE this hat without the zipper-off function!
