good product
January 09, 2013
Product arrived very quickly, just as ordered. Recommended size was very hard to put on and seemed too small. They were great about accepting them as a return. After checking prices I found them a great value, so tried to get them on. They are working just fine if I leave them on my boots. No struggling to fit them each time. Highly recommend this company. Great phone support.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, Cons: hard to get on and offgood for all conditions!

From snowshoeing to 80 F these gaiters are invincible.
Decent quality gaiters
December 01, 2011
Gaiters seem to be well constructed with good stitching and velcro attachment. The heel strap is leather and looks to be a little thin; I hope they last. Gaiter height is exactly what I expected for a low gaiter. Will function as intended. I am small framed and the large size is a little tight at the upper cuff. I would not recommend the small size except for a child. A decent quality gaiter for the price.
Pros: Build quality, Cons: heel strap thinDoes what it says

These gaiters have proven to do what's claimed. I thought the tight grip was going to be bothersome around my leg but I don't feel restricted at all and, most importantly, no sand or rocks get in my boots. The only issue I have is the top velcro strap digs into my shin a little so I'm hoping it either needs some more breaking in or some kind of makeshift padding will correct it.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAlready own the Outdoor Research Rocky Mountain Low Gaiters? Tell us your thoughts.
Good Gaiters but...
March 12, 2010
The material and straps undersole strap are solid and durable. The elastic band on the bottom really hugs the boot to keep debris out. Only thing is the top elastic band is a bit tight on the lower calf, otherwise this is a five star buy for the price.
Improved Design
September 27, 2009
My hiking buddy has last years Rocky Mountain Lows and I just purchased these. These have a few significant improvements that he is envious of. The first major improvement is the instep strap. The previous pair used the horrible shoelace type. These now use the Hypalon strap that is much more durable and easier to adjust. These also have opposing velcro tabs at top and bottom to help keep the gaiters closed up tight. These are perfect for the warmer weather months when full gaiters are a little too hot.
Good value and performance

These gaiters worked for what I needed. I'm new to snowshoeing and they fit fine over my legs and snowshoes, and ordered a large to fit over any pant thickness.

Keep your feet and pants dry
December 12, 2009
They keep my feet and pant legs dry on late season hikes through snow patches. Good price compared to some other brands.
Perfect

Wanted something to keep the scree and ash out on St. Helens. Very rugged. Velcro makes it easy on/off and the instep strap replaces easily.
OR Low Gaiters-Keeps the sand out
February 07, 2012
Owned for two weeks and used for 4 days hiking Lost Coast Trail across 25 miles of sandy beaches, pebbles, rocks, and boulders. The gaiters show little to no sign of wear and kept all of the sand out. I still took off the gaiters and boots for stream crossings as the gaiters are not that high. The gaiters are uncoated, which I prefer as my legs did not get too hot hiking 4+ hours per day. They were comfortable enough that I didn't bother taking them off in camp. One complaint is that the look like balloons, puffying up in the middle section.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great valuePerfect performance!

I bought these for my son to use in the Alaskan back country this summer. His geological expedition involved climbing numerous steep talus-covered slopes over a 3 week period in various weather conditions. They kept all debris out of his boots the entire trip. Highly recommended.
just what the doctor ordered! fit well and keeps the debris out!

Keeps the dirt/debris out of my shoes.
Best for all conditions except snow.

I've had a pair of Rocky Mountain Low Gaiter™ for a few years and would not think of going backpacking or even hiking without them. They simply save you a pair of pants when it's cold to run in shorts or a pair of socks and liners if it's warm. They are definitely not for when it's snowing even if light. The instep lace is not strong enough to resist abrasion from walking on rocks. Replace it with a sturdier synthetic cord (a few to choose from) and you're all set. Worth every penny!
Good Construction

Great for keeping all the trail/weather stuff out and the boots dry and clean.

I bought a size large/extra large. I have skinny legs and this size fits comfortably around my lower leg. I tried on the smaller size in the store and it was too small but would fit kids ok.
Pros: Ease of useBest for all conditions except snow.

I got these as a gift for my husband for his fall/early winter hikes in New York State. I can't review the actual product yet but they look great and Altrec had the clearest description of the product online. The ordering process and the delivery were both fast and easy.

Like Them Alot
April 14, 2010
I've given the pair I've owned hard use hiking, back country skiing, snowshoeing, and climbing. I'm often wearing a pant with a stretch cuff that pulls over the cuffs of big boots (ski boots, plastic climbing boots) but there are still lots of days each year when I need gaiters over approach shoes or lightweight hiking shoes. I like these gaiters because they're light and non-bulky when stuffed in the pack, yet effective in keeping snow or vegetation out when I need them to keep shoes clear of snow, dirt, plant matter or scree. My pair has stood up to plenty of abuse in what I would guess to be 25 or 30 days of use. And using these I've found I prefer short gaiters over tall gaiters in everything but deep powder because they let my legs breathe so much better.
Just what I needed
December 29, 2007
Just what I needed for hiking. The gaiter goes on easily, has both a toe clip and a heel strap for security, and the gaiter is easy to put on and take off.
these are excellent!
November 02, 2011
i've used these on almost daily hikes during the past several months - over leather above the ankle hiking boots - and i couldn't be happier with their performance, ease of use, low profile, and light weight. i highly recommend as a summer/fall gaiter. thanks OR!!

Good snaps, velcro and lace hook but the lace under the boot is not usable for X-country bindings.

I bought for my wife whose an avid trail walker. She loves them. No more rocks in her boots. Should have got these a long time ago.
Nylon instep lace blew out in 1 day
May 17, 2004
mfgr. says "designed for mud and groomed trails of pacific northwest" they are well aware that lace wears out quickly and recommened that user replaces w/ perlon cord instead of correcting the initial problem.
Wonderful accessory that works as advertised

These gaiters work fabulously!! Last weekend while hiking through a very moist forest and heavily grassed field, they kept the tops of my boots and socks and bottom of my trousers nice and dry. The fit was perfect.
