Wow!! I got the hat and went sking within a week. It was 14 degrees at the bottom of the mountain and I never once thought to myself "My head and ears are cold" I wore it all day and never was to warm either. If I had to recommend one thing to anyone who buys this hat, get low profile goggles (UVEX). The hat doesn't seem to come down far enough in the front with regular goggles. Other than that, I can't wait to sport this thing in Vail.

Good all around winter hat for Colorado
November 24, 2008

This is a really good winter hat but if a stiff winter wind is blowing I wouldn't want it as my only hat. Its windproof to a point and the dome isn't insulated for severe weather which is what makes it a good all around hat. I use a skull beanie under it in severe weather and that does the trick. If you like brimmed hats this is one to consider.

I bought the Snoqualmie Sombrero hat

I love this hat.I kayak, and I wanted the rain hat but also wanted to be able to cover my ears in the cold water. It has works perfect for me.Also for my work in construction and wearing glasses,I keep my glasses clean and the hat is very comfortable and just to my size,so there is no problem falling off.Great buy!!

Kenai, AK ESSENTIAL!
November 10, 2010

The hat is a life saver. The rain is plentiful in Kenai and so is the fishing - this hat has been a life saver. To have the option of ear warmers is excellent as winter approaches or even those early morning 20 degree temps at the fishing hole. This hat is the best option I have found to take care of my needs.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Good hat for nasty weather.
February 15, 2008

This is a good hat to wear if you need to cover any distance outside in a cold rain. I had the rain hat without the ear and neck wrap for 4 years and wanted it ever since. Finally!

expensive but good
December 04, 2005

Seems to be the number for colder conditions. 20F degrees and 20-30 mph winds, did the job, warm but not too warm, brim good for blocking the sun and some wind. Expensive.

A great winter hat

A great hat for severe cold weather. I only wish it was in another color except for black

Protect me from the rain, the snow, and the wind in th wintere
December 08, 2005

Best winter hat I've got. Comfort, light weight, flexibility, goretex, winstopper earflaps, and style all combined. I've tested it on my bike in rainy and windy days, in the snow in Lassen Volcanic National Park, and in the mist and wind in a waterfowl refuge. I also own a Seattle Sombrero, which I still consider one of the best hats ever made. If Snoqualmie is for the winter, Seattle is for the rest of the year. You just gotta love the brims on both hats. They simply keep your neck and most of your face dry. I do like the snaps on Snoqualmie much better than the velcros on Seattle.

Great for snowshoeing (or just to the parking lot)
October 13, 2010

I purchased this hat for my husband and he loves it. Great for those cold, windy, wet days when you still want to get outside. Dries easy. For days with temperatures in the teens, easy to fit headband on as well. Keeps you dry and looks great.

Pros: Great design, Performance

Good product

This hat is the best. The ear flaps work well in the cold weather and gore-tex fabric provides perfect protection from cold rain.

Nice hat!
January 17, 2012

I am not sure if this is a man's hat or a woman's hat. It doesn't matter as my boyfriend loves it. He wanted a hat that had the earflaps and fleece to keep his ears and bald head warm! After searching hi and lo, I found this hat. It is light, durable and warm on his bald head! He loves it! I gave it 3 stars as I think the fleece could be a little thicker and fluffier. The rain just rolls right off of it according to my boyfriend. Yay!

Great for winter walks
November 21, 2012

We walk year-round on our local trail, about 6 miles, so I need a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes but also to keep my ears warm in winter. This the best hat I've found for doing both. It also is very comfortable, with an easily adjustable fit and a chin strap that does not rub against your head or ears. When the weather warms up as you go it's easy to tuck the ear flaps up into the hat, and if you want to take the hat off you can fold it up and tuck it into your backpack or large pocket. If snow or rain falls from the sky or the trees you have no worries, unlike with felt or knitted hats. Although it's not a fashion accessory it's reasonably flattering to the wearer, and helps keep her smiling.

handy winter hat
December 19, 2012

Great hat for winter. It's comfortable, warm, helps keep the snow or sleet off your head and hair. Also helpful for blocking the sun. Handy ear flaps for extra protection from cold. My only suggestion would be a wider brim for better protection.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Great in high winds and heavy rains
July 30, 2010

I bought this as a back up- just in case I needed it. I was in a World Qualifying fishing tournament off of BC near Alaska. I used this had to stay dry on my way to my fishing holes at 20 knots. It stayed on no problem. I rained so hard I thought I was going to have to bail out the boat, my head stayed warm and dry. Plus the girls at the lodge thought I looked "HOT". What more can I say. All of the rain ran off my back not into my storm jacket. Thanks

Good hat, but don't wear it in summer
October 16, 2006

Good for cold rainning day. Too hot for sunny summer day. I had to buy another hat because it is too hot for yard work.

This hat is above and beyond expectations
October 18, 2006

Worked outside in the yard all weekend in the drizzle rain, but the only moisture on my head was sweat. Am waiting for the real test during elk season when it's cold and pouring rain, but have no doubts it will work just advertised then also. Well worth the money and then some.

excellent hat
February 11, 2008

I love the Seattle sombrero though I wish it had a way to attach the side flaps to the chin band for use during heavy wind. The same evaluation applies to the winter version, Snoqualmie Sombrero.

Outstanding product
April 29, 2011

I've researched many "waterproof" hats with "ear flaps" and this Outdoor Research (OR) product was the No. 1 best product out there for my needs. It not only gives full rain protection (360 degree's) for your head but it allows you to keep your ears warm if needed. The flaps easily fold up into the hat when not needed and the internal Velcro size adjustment is easy to adjust; loosen to wear ear flaps inside, tighten to wear them over your ears. It's pretty expensive, but you're getting top quality that will last you a lifetime and comfort from rain/sun and warm ears are worth every penny spent. I plan on using this in July for our trip to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Exceptional Quality and Performance
March 05, 2006

Need a hat that provides waterproof protectiona and warmth? This is your answer. The cinch strap keeps the hat on your head in strongest of gale force winds. The ear-flaps keep your ears warm in extreme winter conditions. I would highly recommend this headgear.

But This Hat!
October 24, 2011

This is a great purchase! I us it mostly for fly fishing all over the Sierra's, Montana and Idaho. It keeps my head and ears warm and the the fleece ear flaps are a great bonus that can be tucked away when the temper is a bit warmer and there isn't much wind. The hat brim also protects my eyes from the sun which is key. I definitely recommend this hat. You'll be satisfied with it's practical use and comfortability.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, love the fleece ear flaps : )

truly an excellent product
January 29, 2009

The hat fits true to size, is light, the wind protector fits well down over ears & back of head. The wide brim is good protection from the elements. Very functional & comfortable chin-strap too. Purchased for fly-fishing in cold windy conditions with strong cold winds predominantly at your back. I have searched high and low and can't find a better hat for the job!

Sweet but a little warm in Humid weather
November 08, 2004

This is a great hat. Most importantly, be sure not to buy too small. Great water proffing with the Gore-tex, and its use is pretty flexible. The ear flaps give you protection from the wind for those 10 degree windchill hikes. Great for anyone and anywhere but a little warm in Atlanta when its warm.

winter rain hat
November 24, 2012

Offers a wide brim to shed rain it feels like it should be stiffer to keep it straight in the wind. The top of the hat is unstructured and looks wrinkled and puckered. I like the ear flaps and the chin strap to keep it from blowing off while running down the lake. I lthink the snaps are great for folding the brim up when not raining. At nearly 60 bucks it is quite expensive time will only tell if it was a good investment.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Nice Hat
September 19, 2009

I love the hat except I can't get the front brim to go downward. It sort of stays flipped up. Other than that I love the hat.

Superb Hat
November 27, 2005

Rain proof, windproof and packable.........what else could one ask for. The adjustable headband allows for a comforable fit when the earflaps are in use or folded up.

Great hat for cooler weather
March 16, 2010

This is the hat I wear when it is too warm for one of my knit hats but it is too cool for my Seattle Sombrero. Oh, speaking of the Seattle Sombrero, this has snaps on the side , to allow you to fold up the sides. This works so much better than the velcro used for years on the Seattle Sombrero. As other have stated, it gets pretty warm in higher temps but honestly, this hat was not designed for this condition. The Gore Tex does a great job keeping the elements out. The polar fleece keeps the ears warm (when folded down). That big beautiful brim keep rain water and sunlight out of your your face and off your neck. Of all my OR "sombreros, this is the one I wear the least but when it is cold and wet, I am SO glad I have this one.................

This hat is the real deal
November 21, 2006

I got the black one and it's awesome. It easily adjusts to your head size and I love the way it sits low on my head so I'm really well protected. The ear and neck covers are perfect. The hat looks good as well. My son wants one now.

Love the styling of this hat, especially love the earflap option
June 16, 2010

I haven't had a chance to use it yet.......no rain on our last hiking trip and uncommonly warm weather. But it packed well and is exactly as pictured.
