Exactly what I needed
Doctor said stay out of the sun - I coach soccer in the south. Exactly what I needed. Fits perfectly. Very light weight. Blocks the sun out very well with a wide brim. Vents carry heat away from my head quickly.

About the Sombriolet Sun Hat
My dermatologist loves this hat selection. I like it as it shields my ears, neck & face due to the broad brim. And about the brim, how does it keep it's shape even after you pack it in your luggage, or fold it for some other reason? I'm a golfer and I'm amazed about the integrity of the brim due to either wind or rain. I really get my money's worth from this hat. I took the first two to my dry cleaner and am getting even more use out of them.

Well made hat!
Air vents are great. The quality is noticeable & the material is very light. Anyone spending much time under the sun would benefit greatly from this hat. My new favorite summer hat.
I also have the Seattle rain hat and that is top notch also.

Best Hat !!!
We bought this hat for my son-in-law. He had gotten me one for our trip to Isreal. It was perfect for hot, hot climate and protected me from sunburn. It is worth every penny of the cost. Buy one and you will not regret it !!!!!!!!!!!!

fishing hat
I love the hat, it really protects me from the sun. Great wide brim and very comfortable. I have a large head so the ex-large is great! I have had one for over 2 years...I finally lost it as it flew off my boat. Got another one as soon as possible. It wears better than other hats of higher price. It keeps my head cooler than other high dollar fishing hats that I have used. The material stays looking like new even after several washings.

One more step to the perfect summer kayaking hat.
Love this hat. Light weight, ventilates well, covers sun sensitive areas of the head, looks cool. Until this summer I hadn't been wearing one. The brim doesn't stay down in the wind. Enter heavy spray-on clothes starch. Put about 10 coats of spray starch on the brim, and now it's perfect.

Great quality sunhat!
Love the construction and materials used in this hat. The brim is wide enough to keep the sun off of you. and the back is a tad longer to protect your rear neck. I love that you can fold this hat and pack it away. I LOVE this hat!!

Outdoor Research Does it Again
I bought this hat for a fishing trip, it exceeded my expectations. The hat is very comfortable. It stays on in very windy conditions. It doesn't hold heat like others do. Another great product from Outdoor Research.

Great hat. Wear it all the time. Large brim does a great job of keeping the sun off of my bald head, along with my face and neck. The brim does move around a bit in higher winds, but isn't bad. Have even been able to ride a bike with it, as long as I am just cruising around. So far, it has worn very well. Still looks new after a few months of regular wear.

Great hat
Hat is well made and well designed. Great coverage of shade especially over the back of the neck. Hat was a bit big (got a Large even though we measured hubby's head size). Hat is very lightweight and overall, a great buy.

Won't leave without my Sunbriolet hat
The Sunbriolet hat fits well, is comfortable, wtih a wide enough brim to block most of the sun. It lives up to the sun protection that helps my sun sensitivity. It comes in just a few sizes, and the Altrec sizing chart helps to get a close fit. The inside band seems to stretch nicely, and there is a clever way to cinch it tighter if needed. I keep it with me in the car (no worries about crushing) so that for short errands I can throw it on. It sheds water, although I haven't had a heavy downpour. I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a comfortable sun / water protection hat that's good looking.

My favorite hat ever for being in the sun!
It's soft, comfortable, and well made. I am happy to have such great sun protection as I work in my yard, sit at soccer games, or float the rivers. The lanyard is very useful in the wind. I have a size 7 3/8 head, and the large size fits well and can be adjusted for a snug fit. It's a great hat that I'll use for years, guaranteed!

Happy with the product
The hat is of excellent quality. The material is soft and the stitching is superb. It's very comfortable to wear all day long and it certainly keeps out the sun during the intense hot days here in Georgia. The design is very stylish and the neighbors took notice. I wouldn't have been able to work around the house and yard without this hat. In addition, the item arrived on time and the packaging was excellent.
I would recommend this item and Altrec to all.

Decent hat
I am outside , in the Florida sun, all day. Need excellent facial sun coverage.
This hat is made of quality material, light, adjustable, ventilated.
My concern is that, in my opinion, the brim needs some adjustments.
In slight wind, the brim will fly up, and out of your face, thus no coverage.
Second, the brim, again in my opinion, needs to be at least one inch wider. In full sun the coverage only goes down to about my middle nose, leaving other areas fully exposed.
The quality of this product, materials, etc. is very good. However if you are looking for as much sun coverage as possible, or at least more, I would suggest finding a stiffer and wider brim.

Great Hat
The product does what it claims...keeps the sun from buring your face and neck while keeping you cool and comfortable. The brim of the hat may be adjusted for better vision.

Great Sun Hat
I wore the OR Sombriolet for a week sailing throughout the BVI. I lost my baseball cap in the first hour, but the OR stayed secure the rest of the time. When the wind blows hard, the brim does flip up, but otherwise it was perfect. It remains cool, is lightweight, dries quickly, and provides good protection from sun and rain.

A Sunhat's Sunhat
A dermatologist convinced me that I've got to be more careful when I'm out in the sun. I went looking for an all-around hat that would provide me the protection that I need. I bought this hat as my own personal Christmas gift -- during an Indiana winter. So, I've had limited opportunity to wear this hat outside. However, here is what I can report from first observations: The fit is easily adjustable. The hat is also very light weight. I'm sure that the strap will come in handy on windy days -- just to keep the hat from flying off. The hat is well vented with mesh inserts along the side. This should keep the hat cool and comfortable. The brim of the hat is somewhat oblong -- the brim is wider in the back than on the sides and front. This will provide greater protection to the back of the neck. The brim is also easily adjustable. I've also ordered the Seattle Sombrero for cooler and wetter weather.
Acquiring these hats did come with a little speed-bump. When I opened the box from Altrec, instead of hats, I found two backpacks. Altrec made returning the incorrect items a breeze, and quickly made things right. Altrec's customer service was top notch. So far, I'm quite pleased with both the product, and the service from Altrec.

Very good hat for active, outdoor activities!
This hat is one of the most comfortable I've ever worn. It is also unisex--it looks equally good on me and my husband! I bought it because I've been looking for a hat that will stand up to the winds on the beach while protecting my face from the sun. Its brim is just big enough to shade well, but not too big because it doesn't flop all over in the wind.
The only reason I didn't rate it as "Excellent" is because it didn't pass my beach test: It will still "flip up" when in direct wind...though not as bad as others I've tried. I plan on keeping it because I think it will be my "go to" hat when doing outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, etc. because it really does keep your head cooler than most hats. Plus, it looks like it belongs in the outdoors. :)
The only downside--on a personal level, I'm not a huge fan of the prominent logo on the front--but on a functional level, it probably will not look good on people with small heads. The circumference of the headband is true to size, but the actual head room is quite generous and can look a little dorky unless you pull the hat down low around your ears.
All in all, great hat; would recommend! :)

Best sunhat ever
I own many hats, and I always end up turning to OR for their quality. This is by far the best covering activewear sunhat that I've ever encountered. It is comfortable, cool, and most importantly, keeps my entire face and neck protected from the sun's rays. There's nothing more to say. If you need head and neck coverage during a hike, get this hat.

Best hiking hat
I have looked for a long time to find a light weight hiker hat that provided sun protection. This is the best hiking hat I have found. Comfortable and blocks the sun during those long hikes. It's a hat every one should own.

Perfect Sun Hat
This hat is very cute and will be great for keeping the sun off of my face for an upcoming safari in South Africa. I have a medium sized head and the medium fits correctly. The hat is able to be adjusted also for a tighter fit around the head. It is light weight and has ventilation to let the heat escape. I am very happy with this purchase.

Outstanding sun hat
I am sensitive to the sun and wanted a stylish hat that protected my face and neck. The sombriolet sun hat has done the job. It not only looks good, but gives good protection. The brim gives very good coverage from the face to the back of the neck. In addition, it has adaptable custom fit adjustments. The only issue I have had is that the brim flops in strong winds, such as when riding in a fast open boat. Nevertheless, it is my favorite hat.

Was Looking for a hat for the Surf
I have tried the hat once in the surf, and so far has worked well. Fits pretty comfortable, although sizing is slightly larger than I thought. The cinch cords work well to tighten it up. The stiff cord in the edge of the brim work well to keep the hat from flopping into eyes. It was important to have a hat that floats, and so far it has worked. I would have liked to seen a stiffer neoprene in the brim to give added float, though...

Great Hat
This is a great hat. I have worn it hiking in the Sierras and around town when it's hot and sunny. It provides plenty of shade, breathes reasonably well and is very lightweight. It fits well and it's comfortable. The adjustable headband works great. It folds up well and springs back into shape. Since it's so light, the chinstrap comes in very handy. Highly recommended.

Great hat for the FL sun
I bought this hat, primarily, for when I do yard work in the sun in central Florida. It shades my head, ears and, most importantly for me, my neck. It is quite light and seems to be able to prevent a lot of the sweat from dripping in my eyes (unlike the baseball cap I used to wear). I've worn it once in a light shower and my head stayed dry with the water beading off the surface. I can't say how dry it will stay during any significant, prolonged rain exposure. Bonus feature: my Wife thinks it looks cool. I'm very happy with this purchase and definitely recommend it.

Excellent item
I have a 23 inch head (large) and the fit is perfect. It provides excellent protection from the hot sun while keeping your head cool and dry. I was using a baseball hat before and did block the sun in my face but my head would sweat and my hair would be really moist. Taking the baseball cap would make my hair and scalp itch. With the sombriolet my head stays cool and dry. It fits well and leaves about a 1/4 inch to work with. You can cinch it down from the back of the head and to your chin to prevent it from flying off during strong winds. It is also very light and can pack down in your pack.

I have a number of OR and Mountain Hardwear hats. I have a MH summer hat that is vented with mesh but its not protective enough of balding head. So, i purchased this more protective one and will update after wearing.

Great hat for Nevada summers.
This is the best sun hat I have purchased. It is perfect for the hot Nevada sun and works well in the wind. I have also swam with it in lakes and rivers and it maintains it's shape.

Good looks, great function.
Great features and a great look. The brim is stiffened so it doesn't flat around in the wind. The underside of the brim is made of gray fabric to cut down on glare - nice. The fit was a bit big based on the size chart, but the external drawcord adjustment helps customize the fit. Overall, this is great looking and great functioning hat. Great for out in the yard or on the trail.

Great sunhat that doesn't make you look like a dork
I need to wear hats to keep from getting freckles, and this one not only works well but doesn't make you look like a dork. Ok...not as much of a dork anyway. My kids say I look like a safari guide with this hat. Functionally, it's a great hat and works as advertised.

I bought this hat for my Mom, and she loves it!
My mother is elderly but very active. She has a very fair complexion, and really has to avoid sun exposure. She's very practical and down-to-earth, but has a hard time finding a hat that fits her lifestyle. She loves this hat. Besides the obvious benefit of great sun protection, she loves the following: The hat can lay perfectly flat without any damage, which makes it very practical for travel. She can pack it flat in a suitcase or handbag; it can hang down her back from the strap, laying flat and comfortably behind her when she's sitting down, riding in a car, etc. It has lots of little vents that will keep her head from getting sweaty. It weighs practically nothing. It doesn't flap in the breeze. Besides, its attractive and flattering! Maybe I'll have to get one for myself . . .

Goes everywhere!
This hat travels well, provides shade when I need it and with the stampede strap it stays on in the highest winds. Highly recommended for hiking, water sports or anywhere you need protection from the sun. Only wish the brim was larger and did not bend in the wind, but the positives way outweighs the negative so I can deal with that!

Well designed hat
Not much of a hat person, but I wanted a shade from the sun. Actually I like the hat so much I am pondering buying another one, maybe a different color so I have two. Works great for shading the sun, and works great in the rain too. When I go inside I fold it up and stick it in my pocket. Great Hat

Great light weight hat!
Barely feel this hat on your head. Does not cause your scalp to itch or hurt and you get a good amount of coverage from the sun. I have worn it in the wind and the front does not flap up or down but stays in place. This hat is super comfortable even in the heat. Would recommend to go up one size. The measurements given would have me in a small but I bought a medium and it fits great.

Great Sun Hat
I have had this hat for a year now and really like it. I use it when doing yard / garden work or when I'm fishing. I primarily bought it to keep the sun from scorching my head, face, and neck. It definitely has done that but it also keeps me cool. Even on really hot days, 80 / 90 degrees, I do not overheat with this hat on. It is also really light weight, so I do not really notice that I am wearing it. It has 2 cinch cords, one for your neck and one around the crown, so when it gets windy you don't need to worry about it flying off. If you are looking for a sun hat for summer time yard work or fun this is a good option.

good sun protection
All in all I was happy with this hat during a recent sea kayaking trip in Baja. It is light weight, well ventilated, provides good sun protection, and cinches tight relatively well. The only minus is the piping around the brim; while it provides stability, it becomes misshapen. The brim of my hat seems permanently cock-eyed with one side higher than the other; functionally not an issue, but a tad annoying nonetheless.

Well built but watch the sizing
This is a very nicely made OR hat which I bought to replace my many-year old OR hat. Construction quality is top-notch. My only complaint is sizing. I wear a small or at most medium hat or helmet usually. I ordered a Medium size Sombriolet and it was too small so I gave it to my wife.

Excellent Sun Hat
I found that OR's Sombriolet Sun Hat met all the qualifications for a good hat to wear in the sun. It provides ample shade from the sun from all angles; I wear a large size and the brim measures 3.25" on the front and sides, 4.5" on the back. The mesh opening ventilates very well, allowing sweat to dry on long, sunny hikes. It fits comfortably; the rim reaches to my eyebrows and top of ear tips, whereas OR's Seattle and Coastal Sombreros sat uneasily an inch above my brows. While the brim holds its flat shape, the crown of the hat is supple on the outside material as well as for the inner mesh. I really enjoy using this hat for my long summer hikes as well as when I'm outside during work.

Fantastic Hat
Three days of fishing in the Everglades and great protection from the sun. Bald head with no sunburn. Never even offered to lift off my head at 42 MPH on a flats boat. I'll never fish without it on my head. The venting system was cool at 90 degrees and no perspiration in my eyes.

Another great hat!
Well, I'm off and running! My first hat was the Nimbus Sombrero and I loved it. We've had lots of rain this spring in the mid-Atlantic states and this hat has kept me dry. I liked it so much I decided to buy a Sombriolet Sun Hat for myself and a Women's Oasis Sombrero for my girl. We're planning a trip to Texas soon and we need that sun protection. Both hats have the same quality as the Nimbus Sombrero. We are very impressed!

great for calm conditions
I bought this as a kayaking hat, mainly for sun protection. In the wind the brim blows up and therefore does not shield your face from the sun. I will continue to use it until I find a better solution. Fit, quality and packability is all excellent.

Function and Style
Great hat!! Utilize this hat for all my coaching needs. It's like a stetson on the pitch. Keeps my noggin cool and the sun off my face and neck. The hat keeps it's shape w/ the brim piping, but any winds over 20+ and the brim is flopping a bit.

So far so good
I bought two of these hats for our upcoming trip to Peru. Not having any experience in buying these types of hats I was relying on the description provided and the reviews. I must say that so far I am not disappointed! The sizing chart was accurate and fit the two of us perfectly. The hats are light weight and easily stored in our backpacks, or hanging on the outside of the packs. The brim covers both our face and the back of our necks. Can't wait to get them to Machu Picchu.
