Smashed Cake Hat
May 26, 2010

OR makes very nice hats & caps. I have a few different styles. This one's going to Costa Rica next month to put it to the test. I wish the top part was a little more round as the picture portrays it. As it is, it kinda looks like a squished cake on top but it's not so bad. Looks a little dorky but that adds to the charm of it.

It was exactly what I was looking for. It's comfortable lightweight and blocks out alot of sun with it's wide brim. I was very happy that I was able to order a size medium becaucse I have a small head and it fit perfect. I bought the mushroom one and now Im looking forward to ordering the beige one.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

The hat is better than I thought it would be.
April 23, 2010

the hat is light weight, cool, and will be the hat I use this summer, a good buy on my part.

Overall A pretty darn good hat.
May 07, 2008

I do landscaping in Florida, so I am outside most of the day. I needed a hat that would shade my neck and face from the sun and would not make my head hot. Well, I think I found that hat. I get ample shade from the brim and the ventilation works well. The only complaint that I have is with the chin cord where it attaches to the hat. It sits right on the tops of my ears and it's very annoying. My suggestion... if you don't need the chin cord, remove it. The hat fits snug enough so it won't blow off in a fairly strong breeze.

July 22, 2008

I don't like the 'hold-on cord". I plan to cut it so I can tie in place. The inner band does not stay in place For its price, it is only average.

Great hat
July 21, 2009

This hat is like wearing a shade tree. It keeps my head cool and lets sweat evaporate (the air circulation is fantastic) and protects my neck, face and ears. I bought several bucket hats recently and this is hands down the best.

Awesome hat. Really wears light. Ventilation is awesome. Fish 3-4 days a week and this hat has been awesome. Not to shabby in the wind either. The elastic adjustment helps with a perfect fit.

The total package
March 25, 2010

This hat is everything I want in a travel/sun hat: The brim is tough enough that it doesn't collapse when wet or in the rain; it's well ventilated to keep head sweat to a minimum; the inner band has a concealed drawstring to ensure perfect fit; it's comfortable and finally, it doesn't look dorky.

fades quickly
September 03, 2009

I bought the fossil colored one and it began to fade in spots. It has a worn look and I have only had it for a month. It is also floppier than I would have liked, the sides go down much lower than pictured. It is comfortable and stays on in a high wind

very nice
June 10, 2008

I've had the hat for a little over a week now, and it's been great. I was a little concerned that the XL might fit too snug, but it's pretty much spot on, and the drawcord adjustment on the back of the hat allows for some fine tuning. The brim offers good coverage all around, and the chin cord is easily removed (or just flipped to the top of the hat) if you don't need it. Excellent hat for the money; i'm picking up a second one for my dad.

Great except for vents
July 20, 2011

This hat is very well made and seems like a high-quality product. Unfortunately, the mesh on the sides comes far enough forward that it touches the sides of my forehead. I don't want to get a checkered pattern sunburn on my head, so I'm going to have to return it. Maybe if you have more hair, this would be a great product.

Pros: Build quality

Great hat to keep you out of the sun
September 01, 2009

This hat has worked perfectly to stop the sun beating down on my head all day. I bought the darker color but in retrospect would purchase the lighter color in the future. Overall a great product.

Great Tropical Cover
February 11, 2011

I have been to SE Asia twice with this hat. I just ordered the darker color for a trip to Colombia. The lighter color is to close to what rebel forces wear. This hat gives max sun protection and the vents do a great job in keeping you cool. If you have water to spare, soak the hat for a more cooling effect. The cotton fabric works great in this regard. I wear 7 3/8 and ordered a large. No problem with sizing. Sinch cord at rear was all I needed to secure hat. Chin strap was cut off as it was not needed. This hat is pure function, fashion was not a factor. Hydrate or die. Buy It!

I bought this hat in the lighter color a year ago and liked it so much I just bout a second in the darker color. Fits well and works great for hot weather. I use on kayak, at work and camping or hiking when warmth isn't needed. I personally like to take the "strap" off.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Does the job
June 07, 2011

This sun hat is comfortable, well made, and well ventilated. Size (diameter) can be easily adjusted to get the right fit for your head. The retailer's description is accurate. My hat is slightly darker than the picture suggests; it is khaki, which is fine with me. I truly have nothing negative to say about it.

Keeps TheSun off Comfortably
August 15, 2011

My old reliable Columbia hat was getting a bit shopworn so thot I'd try this one. Just as comfortable and quality made. When working outside in over 90 degree weather it's a must for preventing burns and keeping you from melting

best wide brim hat
August 19, 2011

I bought this hat and tested it out on a 7-day backpacking trip in Yosemite. I wore it every day, and even when the temp ranged into the 90's, it was still comfortable enough to continue wearing. It does not get soaked with sweat like other hats during strenuous activities. It also cleans well: soak and dry. I don't usually use wide brimmed hats because I am always scanning for birds, but this 2-inch brim is easy to shape when you need a better view. Also works perfect with a mosquito net.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

My favorite hat ever
February 01, 2010

I tend to overheat in most hats but found the Transit combines great ventilation and shade with just the right amount of stiffness in the brim. Absolutely my favorite hat for year round hiking in the southeast.

Create your own shade...
June 20, 2011

This is a super comfortable hat that shades your face, while allowing ventilation for your head. The fabric appears to be very durable and is well put together. In the short time I've had mine, it's gone along on hiking and kayaking trips. The strap is removable or can be pulled up over the brim if you want it with you just in case.

Great hat for trekking
April 16, 2013

I bought this hat for my dad who enjoys trekking. As I received the hat in the mushroom color I noticed it appears to be darker on the photo above than its actual color. It is light and super comfortable and the adjustable string on the back is great plus!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Well constructed and has the ability to customize the size. It should keep me cool and comfortable.

I live in one of the sunniest areas of the world: The high desert! The hat is tough and is effective in higher wind conditions - the strap is important.

Received my hat today and promptly took it out on a 15 mile hike in the sun, great ventilation, normally my head would feel all boxed in and restricted after a long day hiking, but didnt feel that today, plus it kept the sun off my face. I really liked the headband adjustment, making it easy to get aperfect fit every time I use it. Having owned OR products in the past, I was confident in the quality of the workmanship. Great product at a great price.Thanx

Perfect hat!
June 12, 2010

Lightweight and comfortable. I work on an oil terminal off the coast of Kuwait where the temperatures exceed over 120 degrees F. The wide brim and vented top do the job and make the hat a pleasure to wear.
