4.7 out of 5
May 18, 2011
This is by far the highest quality bottle holder on the market. I can't really say how well it keeps things cool, because I got it to keep water liquid on early morning sub-freezing summits. It does that very well. Not many people realize that camelbaks and unprotected h2o bottles = no water on cold mountain climbs. It is very bulky, but that is what keeps your water from freezing - the high level of insulation. Overall, the construction is extremely good. I can't believe the level of detail put into it. Not sure about durability because I have only had it a short time. Don't waste your money on any other that costs $10-20 and doesn't work. This thing is huge and bomb-proof! The size 1 fits normal 32oz nalgene's great - no problem getting out.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
This product is one of the very best for keeping beverages cold
October 07, 2009
I have tried at least 20 different thermal bottle holders, and it is, without a doubt, the very best of all of those I have tried. It keeps beverages colder longer.
Great Nalgene insulator
May 09, 2013
I got this to keep my Nalgene bottle from freezing during alpine climbs, while still keeping it accessible. Works perfectly for that. It's insulated on all sides, and it's big enough so that the bottle easily comes in and out. Drop a hand warmer in the bottom and you're good to go. The belt attachment allows it to be fastened to my pack belt for easy access without stopping. It has extra Velcro strips on it, so it automatically adjusts to the width of the belt it's fastened on to - in other words, it won't shift around. A little pricier than other insulators, but clearly the best out there.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Does the Job
March 18, 2006
Does the job nothing fancy, wish it was lighter.
April 14, 2005
I bought two for my winter seminar on Mt. Rainier and am glad I did! Not only did it keep my drinks from freezing (as some of my team member's drinks did) but the large velcro straps made it easy to keep the bottles attached to my pack thereby freeing up my side pockets for other items such as snacks
Another quality Outdoor Research product
July 28, 2010
Outdoor Research has always produced quality products and the Water Bottle Parka is no exception. It has good insulation and the construction is very durable. I use it on a regular basis and expect to have it for many years to come.
great water bottle parka
April 16, 2010
the OR water bottle parka is the only way to go when you depend on hydration in extreme conditions. i use it for mountaineering and winter camping trips.
48oz Wide Mouth Size #3
February 06, 2010
This is an awesome water bottle parka! It can handle the big 48oz wide mouth. I have used the smaller size to carry the 32oz. This parka will buy you plenty of time to keep your water from freezing.
February 15, 2008
Didn't keep hot chocolate hot in -10º to -15º weather for 9+ hours but did keep it from freezing. Red color is easy to see in a backpack
July 04, 2010
This is very lightweight and straps on easily to my backpack hipbelt. My water did not freeze up on Rainier.
Don't settle for another parka
June 14, 2011
If you are looking for a water bottle parka, this is the one to get. Don't mess around with cheaper ones, you'll end up with this one anyway. It's the only one that will keep your drink cold after five hours of hiking in Arizona heat. Love it.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Best Water Bottle Parka
January 08, 2006
OR is simply the best water bottle parka available, but if you can't afford it, use a sock. It works too.
April 25, 2013
These aren't great because they waste room at the top. But that is mostly the fault of the water bottle. Also the insulation is not fantastic. On the other hand they do the job and if it is cold enough you have no choice.Pros: Build quality, Cons: Cost
really great bottle parka!
August 16, 2008
It keeps my nalgene 1L bottle warm like stainless bottle. I always carry this whenever I go climbing.
May 06, 2006
It,s the best water bottle parka in summer & winter, because my water keep cool & warm.
January 26, 2011
easy to use, durable, definitely a must for climbers, especially when you need to keep your water hot enough for a while this thing is the right one, I would highly recommend thisPros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
January 27, 2010
Great product ,would buy again. Cool on hot days and warm on cold days
It really works!
August 30, 2007
I wasn't really sure if the OR water bottle parka would work or ot, but I took my chances with it and WOW, it really worked! I spent 3 nights out in 5 degree temps and the water never froze. I would melt snow and put the water bottle to bed in it's cozy new parka before hitting the sack, and when I drug myself out of the bag in the morning I had cool water! I love it, now I have room in the foot of the sleeping bag for other things, like my feet! Thanks OR for the great product. And thank you Altrec for great service.
January 14, 2012
Just had a batch of tomato soup i kept warm in the Parka while in the chili morning of southern california. Hooyah to Outdoor Research for an awesome product.Pros: Great design, Great value
February 15, 2007
Strong and tough. Does the job.
May 15, 2010
Use it to keep water cold on long day hikes. Has worked great so far so that I can have ice cold water at the end of the day as well as at the beginning.
Just what you would expect from OR
January 16, 2006
I bought two. 1 32 oz and 1 16 oz. They both hold my Nalgenes without being so thight that they are a pain in the neck to get the bottle out. Their attachment gizmo is wide enough that even full bottle don't swing and really can attach it to the padded waist belt of a backpack. For short hikes I use a 12 oz Nalgene in the 16 oz carrier and I have room for a trail snack. I have not had a chance to test them in the cold but they will keep water cool even when left in a hot, sunny car.
Keep your water warm
January 12, 2010
This parka is amazing! Used it in Colorado during winter hikes. My water was not frozen at all where my camelbag tube is always frozen. Great purchase!
The best insulator for Klean Kanteen
January 31, 2010
I find that the OR water bottle parka keeps beverages in the Klean Kanteen cold for a very long period of time. The insulated protection around the water bottle keeps it from scratching the inside of my kayak.
Excellent Answer to a Keeping Water frost free
January 18, 2004
OR water bottle holder, inside a backpack, kept water unfrozen for 14 hours in a temperature that did not exceed +7 degrees F.
it didn't freeze!
February 16, 2010
Insulated the bottle very well. Velcro started coming apart from sleeve. May have to return it if I can't thread myself
May 04, 2010
The OR water bottle parka is excellent for keeping the Klean Kanteen water cold for a long period of time. The parka keeps the bottle from scratching the kayak as well!
It keeps water cold
April 09, 2003
It really is nice for hikes, because it keeps water cold!!!
Good insulation for Nalgene
July 25, 2005
I bought 0.5 liter Parka for my 16 oz. Nalgene but it is a little big for it.It also just fits to 32 oz. Nalgene.
I've been looking for this
September 26, 2010
I like to keep a water bottle handy on the outside of my pack, but haven't been able to since switching over to Kleen Kanteens. This worked great. I do wish the fit were a little less tight -- it's impossible to insert or remove the bottle with one hand.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: tight fit
Essential winter gear
December 28, 2010
I just returned from a 11 hour hike in the Adirondacks. Temperatures ranged from 0-12 degrees F. I attached the water bottle parka to my chest strap on my pack. Easy access to water. Did not need to ask hiking partner's to get my water for me. I could drink anytime I wanted to throughout the hike. The water did eventually ice-up, even in the water bottle parka. However, without it, I would have not been carrying anything liquid (only ice). I would suggest hanging some sort of small item onto the zipper to grip it with gloves on. I also carried an water bottle parka with extra water in my pack.
keep your water warm or cool as needed
December 29, 2010
Sturdy well built, well thought out water bottle parka. I use one for keeping water in my car from freezing in the winter time.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, Great value
January 08, 2011
The water bottle parka is a must have in extreme cold temperatures. Guaranteed to have drinkability!Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
Keeps ice water cold and is easy to use
July 06, 2009
This water bottle parka keeps ice water cold and is easy to use. It arrived on time and in good condition.
December 15, 2009
I'm usually trekking in the back country of the Sawtooth Wilderness in Stanley, Idaho taking pictures. The temperatures during winter can plumit to 40 degrees below zero. Having protection for your water supply is a must. The Outdoor Research Water Bottle Parks is a must for those cold winter days.
Good, but it is a little wide to Nalgene 16 oz.
March 10, 2006
I bought this water bottle "parka" for my 16 oz. Nalgene bottle, but I think it wants a measure between 16 and 32 oz. to work well. But in general terms, its a very good product.
snugg and cold when you need it
March 09, 2010
I use the #3 parka to keep a 1L PET water bottle cold when flying my paraglider in hot Jamaica. Humidity is very high here and if I would put the bottle without the insulation in my harness it would create a lot of messy condensation where I can't afford it. My only criticism is that the design is a little short for those off the shelf 1L PET bottles. The bottle does fit, but it puts a lot of strain on the zipper. I wish the parka was 1/2" taller.
Great for keeping your drinks hot!
November 08, 2010
I bought this to take on long bus trips in the winter and it did not disappoint. It kept my tea at a nice hot temperature for the duration of my trip 6+ hours, including about 2 hours outside (getting to and from the bus stop, waiting of the bus, etc.). Great purchase overall.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Fantastic Water Parka
July 07, 2010
I used my cousins' small water bottle and parka while camping last month and fell in love with it. The parka kept my bottle cold as well as clean for hours even on the 90+days with humidity. When I got back I ordered the 40oz. Wide Mouth #3 for keeping my water cold while in the car. So far so good. Would recommend this especially if you need a larger size for sports or weekend trips.
Works just like a Thermos
September 16, 2004
The water bottle parka turns any nalgene bottle into a thermos. Much better than making one out of duct tape and ensolite pad.
July 25, 2005
Great water bottle parka both for winter and summer!
June 03, 2011
I considered some neoprene non-zip warmers, but every expedition company seems to recommend the OR Water Bottle Parka. The fit is snug on my 1L Hunersdorf or my 1L Nalgene. I NEVER use my Nalgene with this parka, because if it's cold enough for the parka, it's cold enough to take the Hunersdorf bottles. On epic cold climbs in sub-zero weather, I toss a hand warmer or two in the bottom of the parka before inserting my water bottle. This guarantees that I don't get frozen drink in the middle of the day. You can strap it to your harness or sternum strap, and you've got accessible drinkable liquid in -20F temperatures!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: Cost
It keeps water cold or hot.
October 24, 2007
Great water bottle parka both for winter and summer.
January 15, 2010
Great product, does a job of keeping drink warm or cold. The Velcro strip in the bottle makes it easy to connect to you're pack. Since the bottle fits snug, you either need to really pull to get it out or use a carabiner to hang it from you're pack. This makes the Velcro useless and the bottle stays not a nice against you're gear. But, would get another one if needed !!
Keeps water ice cold
June 04, 2011
This parka is FANTASTIC!!! My water stays cold all day long. No leaks or spotting. Wouldn't trade it for anything. It fits my nalgene 1 1/2 liter bottle perfectly.Pros: Performance, Build quality
Far and above the basic neoprene sleeve...
June 29, 2010
As a test I left a parka & bottle filled with ice out in the direct sun for 3 hours, and another in a basic sleeve in the shade. Temp was about 98 F. The parka still had a bit of ice left in it and was a refreshing drink whereas the other one was like drinking bathwater. I've left one in a hot car all day and had a nice drink afterward. Minus 1 star for being somewhat big and bulky, but well worth it overall, IMO.
nice design but heavy
March 04, 2008
like most insulated holders for 1L bottles, well made but HEAVY! Wish it were available in a taller and/or slightly wider size so I could use it with my MUCH lighter 1L & 1.5L platypus bladders
March 25, 2010
I have not had an opportunity to use these yet. The quality of the material & construction seem superior to the old model. The addition of rubber to the top & bottom seems to be a good idea. The fit for the 3 sizes of SS bottles that I own is great.
Great bottle parka
May 22, 2009
Have only used it to keep drinks from freezing. Easy to carry and lightweight. Closed cell foam would probably be a better insulator but would also make it heavier. Overall, very satisfied, and highly recommend.
Great water insulator!
July 27, 2010
Holds a regular 24 oz bottle of water very well. Good insulation.
No frozen water
March 18, 2008
Climbed Mt Washington and was able to drink my water with no ice. Water bottle was not in my pack it was just in the insulator and was perfect.
Better than predecessor
March 05, 2006
I haven't had the chance yet to field test this, but this is sturdier and slimmer construction than the previous model. I applaud OR for using the rubber top and bottom to add strength and allow it to sit properly. The previous model could get bent out of shape and not sit up.
not any better then the old style
March 21, 2005
I bought this parka thinking it would out perform the old style. In a side by side test, starting with boiling water the old style after two hours was warmer then the new style. So much for better insulation. The zipper is smaller and harder to operate with gloves on. This is not an improvement over the old style.
March 18, 2006
Outdoor Research: Water Bottle Parka is Excellent for hiking, backpacking, paddling and more, this insulated design makes liquids easier to swallow and enjoy on hot summer days.
Dark Grey and Red.
