Outdoor Research Wind Pro Balaclava
Any savvy ski resort customer service representative will tell you that their January "value season" was created to keep drawing consumers back up to the mountains after the holiday rush. The reality is that some of these ski resorts (and we're certainly not naming names) experience some of their most severe weather in January and the first half of February, the kind of cold that makes it tough to breathe deep--even close to sea level. If you're determined to go where your garments instantly frost over the moment you step out the door, consider saving face with this warm Balaclava from Outdoor Research. It's made from Polartec® WINDSTOPPER® fleece and features a contoured construction with a mesh breathing port. The fabric is thin enough to easily fit beneath a climbing or skiing helmet. We found that it also adds an extra layer of comfort when bedding down for winter camping--provided that you remember to kiss your significant other goodnight before you slip it over your head.

I bought this balaclava for winter camping and mountain climbing. It blocks wind effectively, covering the mouth and jaw. I can sleep with it, as the fabric feels warm and smooth ( not prickly as a previous woolen balaclava ). This is important in cold weather camping. A worthy purchase made worthier by Altrec's great online service.

Wind Pro material works well to block the wind. Extremely soft and comfortable on the inside with low bulk and weight. The design and fit of the balaclava is great. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a wind blocking balaclava.

I bought this as part of my business casual winter outerwear (I live in southeastern Pennsylvania) and it performs well. It covers the lower jaw and mouth or can be stretched underneath the jaw, depending on personal preference. Most importantly it blocks and wind and the material won't pill or fray, which was the problem with my previous balaclava.
