As a year round runner that is hair challenged, I need something to keep my head warm on winter runs. This is the 2nd purchase of this product, great snug fit, wind proof and really keeps my noggin warm.

This is the best winter hat I've found. Recently we had 50 mph wind gusts here in IL. and my OR hat was a gem. Virtually windproof, very warm, and sheds water very nicely. A hat that actually covers your ears, imagine that. For my fashion friends the hat does square off at the top so take that into consideration.

I purchased this last winter and it got me through the worst of our extreme cold spell in Utah, well below zero on one night out. Fits snug and keeps you very warm, but is also pretty comfortable once you go inside too. The material is great, sheds the snow and blocks the wind, it's all you need unless your in a rainstorm. I personally do not like the reflective logo (for stealth purposes haha) but I love the feel and look of the material. I would buy this product again as well as other Windpro stuff, it breathes great and is a more versatile option than a full on soft shell. Another fine OR product!

The WindPro Hat offers an excellent combination of double material around the ears with a relatively lightweight construction overall. I found the L/XL to be a very comfortable, snug fit for a size 7 3/8 head; there is some expansion left in the hat, so it would presumably fit larger heads, though perhaps more tightly. I liked the grey colour with reflective OR logo, and the fact that there is a slight "scalloping" of the hat, meaning it extends slightly farther down at the back than at the front (but not as radical as in other OR "knitted" hats/toques), thus avoiding obstructing peripheral vision/eyeglasses, and simply offering a more tailored look . Excellent construction and quality control as well, and nice sale price.

I love this hat. Very comfortable. I've worn it all winter from running, jumping on the trampoline with the kids, hiking, biking, skiing, you name it. Perfect hat for active outdoor activites. My kids might disagree but I think it looks pretty cool as well. If you have a rather large dome, as I do, you'll find the L/XL a great fit. Much more comfortable than a one size fits all.

I purchased this from Altrec several years ago with excellent results. Good job guys. I love your service. I'm ready to buy another one. Variety, spice, life...u know the drill. This is a great warm beanie that covers my cold ears when the weather dips. However, I question its use with extreme sports though. As always, finding a heat-regulating head garment with water repellent properties is a tough order anywhere. For example, I wouldn't choose the WindPro for a 5K run, but would choose it for watching a cold-weather sporting event. Still, this item is a great choice besides that fact. You won't be disappointed under proper conditions...

BergMann - 2007-11-27Almost perfect, but not enough sizes!
This hat comes so tantalizingly close to perfection that I could cry. It breathes far better than the 3 hats I have w/ Gore Windstopper inserts and lets in just enough air to vent well. The fleece is the perfect weight for aerobic workouts below 45 degrees, but due to the "hardface" treatment on the outside, the material is elastic to the point of being restrictive.
This brings me to the tragic flaw of this beanie: it is sized too small and there aren't nearly enough sizes to accommodate most normal-sized heads. OR only makes 2 sizes: SM/Med & LG/X-LG. Given that my head circumference is 23" (barely a LG on the OR size chart), my LG/X-LG hat shouldn't be nearly as tight as it is. Even after an extended break-in period (including a week stretched over a volleyball!) the hat fits tighter than I'd like, so I only put it on for outings of less than 2 hours.
Please OR, could you expand the size range and give us 3 or 4 different sizes?
I’d buy 2 more in a heartbeat if OR could just dial in the sizing.
Rob - 2007-01-31Nice hat, warm, but ill-fitted.
This is a very nice hat. It is very comfortable and very warm. It is sized large enough that it covers your ears and keeps them warm. The only problem that I have had with the hat is that the seams on the top are joined in such a way that the top fo the hat does not conform perfectly flat to the top of your head, giving it sort of a tent-like effect. If this will not bother you, this is a great hat. Also, less important, the OR logo on the front of the hat (which is made of a very nice reflective material) has begun to peel off the hat almost immediately, in fact one edge of it was raised from the moment I took the hat out of the packaging.

I love OR gear, and if it wasn't for the square sewn top not providing a form fit around my dome, I would have loved this hat. Sewn flat made the four corners on top stick out and just look awkward. I am going to try the Airfoil now.
Andrew - 2008-01-27Not WARM!
I just received this hat in the mail yesterday and it is going back. It was 34 degrees F here (NYC) last night with 7mph winds. The hat provided very little protection against the wind and my head was cold the entire time I wore the hat.
The construction is very good, I got the blue hat and it was a good color. Overall it is a well made hat for milder temperatures. Take note that OR and many of the reviews seem to market this as a good winter hat, but it is very thin. Not as thin as the Gore Wind stopper material, but much thinner than you would expect. If you need a good mild weather, every day hat, then this is a good choice. But when the mercury dips, its best to look for another alternative.
As to the fit, people mentioned that it was a bit to snug. I will say that the hat fits well, I have a large head (I wear a 7-5/8" brimmed hat) and it fit me well. It wears like a beanie and is quite good looking.
