Comfortable and warm, but somewhat small
April 01, 2012
This hat was very comfortable an it looks great. I usually get pretty cold outdoors and I was toasty warm wearing this hat. However, it does run a bit short. I have about a 7" head and got the S/M. The circumference fit great, it wasn't tight, but the ear flaps don't quite cover my ears as much as I would like.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useIt stops the wind dead.

purchased this hat for commuting via bicycle in Wisconsin in the winter. It stops the wind dead. Fits snugly under my helmet. The different material on the ears still keeps them warm?
Good Hat (somewhat flawed ears flaps)

Unfortunately (for OR) I have to agree with the previous reviewer. I normally wear an OR medium size hat and I tried this one is a S/M which was way too small. I returned it for the L/XL and it is just slightly too large but still works well for most of my head. Where it falls short is in the design around the ears. The fabric just kind of sits loosely close to the ears such that any wind coming toward your face will bite your ears quickly. Works great or side winds though. ;-) Maybe this is just a sizing problem that wouldn't happen if OR offered more than two sizes. One night I wore it out in single digits with gusty winds for about 90 minutes. My head stayed toasty as long as my jacket hood was up but the bottoms of my ears got cold fairly quick when I pulled the hood back. Bummer.
Pros: Build quality, great fabrics, Cons: Bad designHigh quality

Very warm in cold windy weather. I bought this hat to wear under a hard hat. True to size and fits well. Covers the ears and lives up to the name. Windstopper. I own other products by Outdoor Reasearch. I would purchase this product again.

Great fit and wind resistance

I have been looking for a hat that covered my ears and yet was windproof and not bulky. This hat is for my husband who is very picky about hats. He loves it and I love the look of it too. The fit was just right. I bought the earband too and love its coverage and windproofness. A definite keeper. I highly recommend this hat.

I saw this hat advertised by Altrec, and bought it because it was carrying the Outdoor Research brand. I got size L/XL, and figured how can I lose? Well, the hat is too darned small, and doesn't even cover my ears. I guess my options are either to return it or have a witchdoctor shrink my head. The hat appears well made, and might be warm if I could just wear it. Pretty disappointing, considering I purchased the largest size available. Maybe I'll meet a pigmy in my travels.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: too smallWindwarrior hat... with loose ear flaps

I liked a lot about the windwarrior hat, but it had a fatal flaw for me: the ear flaps. I specifically bought this hat because the bottoms of my ears are usually missed and thought that this design would be great. Unfortunately, the entire flap is very loose (even though the hat itself fit great). In high wind, that allowed even more air to get in the ear area, and then up into my head too. The windstopper fabric is great - as is OR and the color scheme. I swapped this hat for the alpine model instead.
