Just what I wanted
August 28, 2012

I wanted a pair of lightweight shorts for hiking and casual wear, and these fit the bill. They look similar to running shorts, but they don't have a liner and have a pocket fly that fastens with velcro. I am 5 ft 8 and 130 lb, and I usually take a size small (size 4). These shorts fit perfectly with the drawstring waist cord fastened. If I leave it unfastened, the shorts sit lower (below belly button) but still look fine. The fabric is extremely lightweight and dries very fast, which is exactly what I was looking for, but it may be flimsier than some women like. The shorts are well made and very comfortable, but I can't speak to durability because they've only had a few washes so far.

Perfect warm weather climbing shorts
March 14, 2013

These shorts are the PERFECT hot weather climbing and backpacking short AND they're more flattering than many other women's shorts on the market! Thin yet stretchy material with a drawstring chord inside instead of belt loops means they fit smoothly under a harness or a heavy pack hip strap. Side zipper is out of the way and fits a small bar, chapstick, or some cash. The perfect length for hot-weather climbing; as short as they can be while still longer than harness leg loops. If between sizes, get the smaller size as the stretch will look better than a bunched-up waist. I should have bought pewter rather than cairn to hide the dirt a bit better, but the dirt washes out easily. My favorite short all told!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Love these shorts

These are now my new favorite shorts. They are really comfortable and lightweight. I take a size 6, and the small was a perfect fit for me.

super comfy and durable
August 20, 2012

I've been hiking in these shorts for several years now including some long-distance backpacking trips. The shorts are very comfortable, lightweight, and durable. I hike a lot in the desert and my hiking clothes tend not to last very long because of all the brambles and cactus, but these shorts don't have any pulls or tears at all. And they breathe super well--I never feel sticky or clammy. They clean up easily and dry in a flash. They do not stain. In fact they look as good today as when I bought them! They have just the right amount of stretch so they move with you, and coverage is good. I like the velcro in the fly, instead of a zipper, which saves a little time and weight. I love the little zipper pocket on the side which allows you to keep a car key, small amount of cash, etc. It's nice to have a secure pocket without a lot of extra weight or bulk. The only issue is that the waist runs a little large. I'm normally a medium and these shorts have a tendency to fall down, especially at the end of a long trip (I've long since lost the little string that goes around the waist). But that's more my fault than the short's. These are an excellent, lightweight, cost effective, durable, breathable hiking short.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, lightweight, breathable

great fit
July 22, 2010

I really like these shorts. They don't gap in the back, and you can squat in them without cutting off circulation. I normally wear a size 2 or 4 and the extra small fits very well.

Snug & Different
August 12, 2011

I needed some walking shorts to keep me cool in hot, humid Arkansas summers. These shorts are a good length and style; however, the fit in the hips was a bit snug so I returned them. I am 5'3", 138 lb, and wear a size 8. I was surprised there was velcro in the fly (not a true opening just extra fabric for ease in putting shorts on) plus a cord to tighten the waist. The zippered pocket is a nice plus.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Bad design, snug fit in hips
