puffy jacket
December 21, 2010
The purpose of my purchase was to find a highly compressible puffy jacket with hood and DWR finish for mountaineering. I like the jacket to fit over my OR Mithril jacket and all the layering under that, which is why I picked a large size. The jacket is plenty roomy and I will test it in Dec in the German Alps and in March on Mt Whitney. I did notice that it sheds lightly down feathers after wearing it on 20F morning walks.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAlready own the Outdoor Research Virtuoso Jacket? Tell us your thoughts.
Great Base Camp Jacket

This is a great jacket for cold weather/winter camping. It is very warm and it fits nicely without too much bulk. It folds up pretty small into one of its pockets, making it easy to bring along for the top of a cold summit. For the high quality of the jacket the price isn't bad. It fits about true to size. I've been quite happy with all the Outdoor Research gear I've bought. I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone planning to spend some serious time out in the cold this winter.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueWarm & cozy!

Love the jacket. Very warm, lightweight, packs well, & comfortable. Only complaint is the zipper is poor quality, it sticks at the bottom and can be a bit stubborn at times.

Love this jacket

I have several Outdoor Research down jackets. They all are extremely warm and very well designed. I have only had this jacket for several days but it is very comfortable and the hood fits well and looks ok even over a hat. The Outdoor Research down jackets hold up well even though I really abuse them wearing them in rain and snow every day at my stable where horses are slobbering and nibbling them all the time and they are continually getting snagged on wood. However, I find the zippers wear out quickly and I need to have them replaced every year. This jacket's zipper is difficult right from day one & I am assuming it will need replacing as well. I still love the jacket anyway.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: zippers aren't greatNice, warm, fits very large

I bought this to wear as an everyday coat around the city because it is lightweight for layering and warm enough. I like it. The style is nice and very lightweight, not bulky at all. My only issue is that it fits very large. I wear large in The North Face jackets so ordered large, will have to return it for a medium, even considered small it is so oversized and does not come in at the waist, but settled on medium for layering purposes. The sleeves are a bit long, too, but I am short.
