Great Jacket - runs large, long sleeves
December 15, 2013
I usually buy jackets in a Medium, occasionally a Large, depending on the brand. I've never worn anything by Outdoor Research before so I looked at the size chart and I ordered a Large which according to Outdoor Research should have been the right size for me (5ft 4", 145 lbs) plus I thought I should pick the larger size to accommodate layers. Love the jacket, seems high quality and looks like it would be waterproof but it was way too big. Even if I was off to the arctic, I couldn't possibly need to wear enough layers to fill it up! The sleeves, in particular, are really loose at the top which I appreciate may be something to do with giving greater mobility while climbing but they are so loose I think they would "flap" in the wind when skiing. In addition, the sleeves are at least 3" too long, which being 5ft 4" I do find to be a problem on some brands when I size up to the large. I think those long-limbed gals out there would have no problem with the sleeve length. I am considering re-ordering in the Medium but I'm not sure if it would be large enough with layers on. Maybe the brand is just not a good fit for me.
The best softshell jacket I have found...
July 11, 2012
I love this jacket. It is comfortable, relatively light weight, and has two features which I was looking for in a softshell jacket-- a hood and pit zips for ventilation. It is very stretchy and non- constricting. I am 5'4" and about 115lbs.. I ordered both the small and the medium to get the best fit. I chose the medium so I can layer a vest under it. I think that this jacket provides the most versatility of all the softshell jackets I have tried. I LOVE IT!!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
Mithrilite...amazing soft shell!
August 22, 2013
I have used my Mithrilite for over a year...mostly on ice or alpine rock, long routes. This jacket is waterproof! I have climbed mixed chimneys in early spring only to have the water that is dripping off me completely bead off the jacket. The Velcro on the wrist cuffs seals the deal and I always stay dry. I appreciate the adjustable hood that fits great over my helmet. The jacket is breathable and features pit zips. I tend to run a pretty constant temp...amazing...so I haven't really needed that feature. After many, many adventures my Mithrilite looks brand new and still acts that way!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value, waterproof!, packable
