Nice alternative to purse or backpack
April 06, 2013
I bought this to replace a Timbuk2 bag that I've used for years and absolutely love. I recently injured myself and have had to be more conscious of how I carry weight. I hate using a back pack for my purse so I thought the Atom might be a good compromise. It carries very comfortably, and I was able to spend hours with it on my back without pain. The compression straps are a nice and help keep jingling to a minimum. It has plenty of volume for all those things my partner ends up putting in it over the course of a day on the town. And it spins around to my side or front very easily if I need to get into it or want to have more control over it in crowded areas like public transportation. The interior shape takes some getting used to because it is asymmetrical and I'm still having a few issues with it. I had a moment where I thought I had lost my iPod but finally found it within in the deep recesses of one of the bag's more inaccessible corners. I wish Patagonia had made the small pocket on the shoulder strap large enough for my phone. I also wish the nylon webbing for the key keeper was red or a color other than black so it would be easier for me to spot my keys in low light situations. However, overall this bag functions well for traveling and was a good compromise for a girl who thought she would only give up her timbuk2 if it was pried from her cold dead hands.Pros: Build quality, comfortable to carry, functional size without being too big, Cons: shoulder strap pocket too small, interior shape takes some getting used to

Altrec's description of this pack is spot on. The Atom is the perfect size for anything from a day trip into the city to a hike in the park. It allows you to keep all the essentials right where you need them. It definitely satisfied my most essential requirement - all the right pockets in all the right places.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, pockets!!!

The Atom is a great little bag for hauling a few small items, or a camera, or a couple of books, or lunch, or as a compact overnight bag for minimal stuff, etc. Like all Patagonia gear, it's made to last, and details are well-engineered. The sling style is comfortable and works to swing the bag from front to back. It's small enough that it won't weight you down, and big enough to serve for compact day-pack use.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: no water bottle holder

This side strap bag is perfect for short hiking adventures, trips to the beach/pool/gym and walking all around campus. It has a great carrying capacity for essentials and is very comfortable! very versatile pack

I usually carry a messenger bag or a hip pack. While messenger bags are larger for weekend use and hip packs are sometimes smaller for holding all what we need, this unique shaped pack which I hadn't take a liking due to its unconventional shape tuned out to be the most versatile bag I have ever met. This can hold a SLR camera, fishing stuff, books, kindle fire very neatly. I love this now. I think I might get another one in different color one day. The bag can be a little bigger though like the fishing version of Patagonia atom.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
