I really like the Patagonia All-Wear shorts (7" inseam), so I had high hopes for the cargo short version. I got the 36 waist, and they were tight across the middle, so I returned them and got the 38's, and they were still tight across the front. If you prefer some room between the button and the bottom of the zipper I'd recommend the all wear or the Mountain Khaki Alpine Shorts.

Great shorts

I have bought several pairs of these shorts and love the fabric. The fabric patterns are nice and look better than the pictures. The fit is good and the fabric seems to be very tough but has a nice soft hand to it. Highly recommended.

Disappointing fit and for me.

These shorts look great on paper, but at 5.6oz of cotton canvas, are a bit thin for anything but walking around the mall. My normal size (33) were a tad tight in the waist and very tight across my thighs (think across front pockets). Returned for a size 34, and waist was big and still tight across front pockets, though not as much. Sadly, returned these too. Good all around alternative is the Arc'teryx "Spotter". Beefier fabric and a little more generous in the thigh room department. I went with the 34's in these.

Living in sub-tropical southeast Louisiana, I wear shorts most of the year. I purchased my first pair of Patagonia Duck shorts back in the 1980s and have been a loyal Patagonia short guy ever since. I have a tall, long-waisted, athletic build and my new Patagonia Cargo shorts fit me perfectly - a slim cut and I like how the shorts fit around the waist. The quality seems to be up to Patagonia standards and I'm digging the nice plaid style. Great value, great shorts.

All Wear Goes All Places

These cargo shorts fit very well and easily look good enough to wear a lot of places. They are very comfortable. They are definitely not your basic, old, baggy shorts that require you to walk three steps before they move. At the same time they are are still tough enough and carry enough for hard, dirty work or long hikes.

Nice weight shorts for whatever.

These shorts are of the highest quality, as anyone who owns anything Patagonia would expect. They are made from a very soft fabric and are just the right weight for about anything.

I agree with previous reviews, these fit tight through the middle. I ordered a 33 then exchanged them for a 34. The 34's had extra room in the waist but still snug around the thigh/butt. I'm usually a 32-34 (and slim fit when available!) - rarely are pants/shorts tight on me. Anyway I kept the 34's because I liked the style and quality of the shorts so much

Usual Patagonia quality, lightweight. They are true to size and have held up well. The plaid patterns look good.

These pants are going to be my daily grind. Not too styles and not too frump, they feel good and dont get me accused of being a grandpa (im not). The colors are sweet and its what you want in a solid shorty.
