Though each Patagonia® product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, we can generalize our fit descriptions in four ways:
Formfitting: Conforms to the body's contours.
Slim Fit: Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.
Regular Fit: Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers.
Relaxed Fit: Drapes loosely on the body.
Classic Boy Fit: Boxy, athletic, with a traditional crew neck.
Anika Fit: Formfitting and longer in the torso, with a wider, deeper neck (not quite scoop).close

I'm 5' 10" and the medium is a bit loose, but the sleeves and length is right size. Overall the material is great and the fleece feels very comfortable. Other than the slightly loose fit, I would recommend this jacket.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Men's Araveto Jacket
November 02, 2012
I bought this jacket for my son. He is a very outdoor person and has warn this alone as well as with a vest over it. He loves the color(brown)and the warmth it provides. Also likes the ability to unzip the whole jacket making it easier and quicker to get on and off. He has many Patagonia items of clothing and swears they are the best. Well made and will last a LONG time. Would highly recommend this to other buyers!Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Stylish, very comfortable fleece
May 11, 2011
I really like this jacket! Like other Patagonia jackets, this one is of great quality. The "fleece" is way more comfortable/soft than I'd originally anticipated. It is quite warm while not suffocating. I have not yet worn it through a Minnesota winter to confirm whether or not it could be worn as a stand alone jacket, but I'd wager that it'd be close. That said, I have not yet had a problem with wind, though that may be subject to change as things change from 40 degree to negative degree weather! As for sizing, I'd say it does run true-to-size. I bought a size large, and it fits alright, if not a bit on the loose end--I'm 6' tall and weigh 175lbs. This brings me to my only minor complaint about it; it doesn't have a synch cord to adjust/tailor the fit of the jacket. Other than that, excellent quality and design...I really like the zippers these guys use as well!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
Mid layer more than a jacket.
May 05, 2011
Bought oversized to wear as a jacket. From that perspective i've been mostly happy. The wind resistance is mostly non-existant. The feel is buttery soft, and after 6 months of wear....you wouldn't know it. I'd go with proper size next time, and likely be a much happier duck.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: Cost
Nice lightweight thing for mild weather
March 16, 2011
This jacket is super comfortable and looks great-- especially if regular fit covering seems a bit baggy on you (I'm hopelessly skinny; not bragging, just something I can't do anything about). It's comparable to hoodies in terms of protection from the elements (obviously, I'm not considering the hood bit). Not much wind protection, but just what you would need over a T-shirt when it's just a bit cool out. The jacket isn't so form fitting though that you couldn't layer underneath for chillier conditions. Also a great fit for the longer arm crowd, like me. I'm 5'11" and 150lb with a medium.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Better than a sweatshirt
November 15, 2010
I love Patagonia products so go ahead and take this review with a grain of salt. I always find something to love about Patagonia so needless to say I found the positives of this jacket. It's very lightweight so basically this is an alternative to a sweatshirt. It's warm for its weight and very comfy but if you live anywhere that has a real winter then get something more substantial. I live in Southern California and this is perfect for our chilly, foggy mornings. The fit is very slim which is a good thing because most Patagonia jackets seem to run large. So if you are looking for a casual wear jacket to keep the chill off this is a good choice.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

It is a bit warm to wearing it consistently, but on a cool night at the beach it was the perfect layer. Warm enough to keep me comfy, but not so heavy to feel cumbersome. just one more quality Patagonia item in my closet
exactly what I was looking for
October 08, 2012
Great fleece: super soft and with a really good, slim fit. I'm 6' 170lb and bought a medium: good for a T-shirt underneath; comfortable but w/o too much extra material around the gut. Nice details/quality: good, solid stitching and w/ handy inside pockets; however, zipper could be smoother. Hope Patagonia puts out some more colors that don't look like a neon sign for next season!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Year round staple
July 12, 2010
I bought this jacket for my husband and he wears it all year round. It's always perfect for day to day wear or even layering during the winter. Highly recommend.
January 05, 2011
This is a great fall and spring lightweight fleece jacket. It has a slim fit. The medium is perfect for me, I'm 6'2'' and 160 lbs. It could be used in the winter layered under a shell. I have used it about 6 months, the only slight problem is matting of the fleece at the elbows. I liked the first jacket so much I bought another in a different color.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use

The only issue is the zipper catches, otherwise, great item!
A little expensive...
August 19, 2011
It's a good fleece jacket, very comfy and good quality, but not as good as other patagonia products. It looks like they wear very fast. I bought two of these and use them very often. I don't regret buying them, just think there are other brands that offer the same for less money.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, colors are very nice, Cons: Wears quickly, Cost

This fleece material is exceptionally nice. It is lightweight, similar to a Polartec 100 weight (but maybe more like a 120). I'm 5'11" and ~160 lbs. and a medium was absolutely perfect - nicely fitted and slim but in no way restricting, able to fit even a lightweight, close-fitting button-down shirt underneath, good length in the arms and cut for reaching without "jacket rise," and layers under a semi-fitted shell without really knowing that it's there. The elastic in the cuffs and at the bottom fit just right. Overall, just a superb fleece that you hardly know is there and is completely non-restrictive of movement. With that said, I did end up sending mine back. Not because of anything at all having to do with quality issues, but because I could not imagine when I would choose this over an R1 pullover, jacket, or hoodie, as both fill nearly the same niche. The Araveto has a "silkier hand" and is superbly comfortable and well-fitted, but from purely a functional standpoint, I think the R1 has the edge. The Araveto is super breathable and seemed to add meaningful warmth only when paired with a shell. The R1, however, with its smooth exterior and inner grid pattern, add some warmth even without a shell, being just a hair more wind resistant. End result - while I love the Araveto, when I purchase my next thin, light, packable fleece, it'll still be an R1.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
Great Product. I really love it.

Like the color and it was a a great price. Perfect fall time jacket. Would be Ok in the winter time with an outer shell/
Can't beat it for this price

Great for fall but as one of the reviewers said--it was thinner than I thought it would be----overall I am pleased with the quality. It is perfect for layering.

Absolutely fantastic graduation gift!! Great quality and perfect fit. This will be a great jacket for all seasons. The zippers and seams are sewn heavy so I can tell it will last a long time.Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value
Great Price Great Jacket

Warm not fitted

I believe this is a great product. Very warm. Good arm length. I am a thin man 6'7, 205. A little loose fitting but is fine with layers under jacket. Good purchase
Another Quality Patigonia Product!

The Araveto jacket is perfect for that chilly Fall night. Not too heavy, but still keeps the cold away. Love the tapered bottom, falls perfectly around the waist!
Another great product from Pata!

I love Patagonia products, I've always been a fan :) As much as possible I look at buying my outdoor gear from them. In this case I was looking for a warm versatile fleece that I could use while camping or trekking as well as when I go out for coffee or take a walk in the neighbourhood. And this fleece is perfect for this. The only thing I would say, is that the problem between Patagonia and me is the fit! I'm 6'6'' and thin, so it's always a challenge to find a jacket that will fit my long arms and will not be too large. In this case I choose the size large and since the fleece as a slim fit, it's ok, but not perfect... But hey! what to do! Hope this help.
Holding up great!

Having worn this around the world and back and washed more times than i can remember (all within a few months of buying) i'm amazed to say it looks like i just bought it. No issue in washing, no snags or pilling. I grabbed an XL to wear more as a jacket than a sweater, and layered that way i've been more than happy about it. Doesn't block all the wind, but that helps when it comes to ventilation.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost

The Patagonia Men's Araveto Jacket is a good choice to keep the chill off. This jacket is part of Patagonia's lifestyle collection so don't make the mistake of thinking this will keep you warm in the Sierra Nevada backcountry. But, if you are looking for a good, lightweight fleece jacket with a high warmth to weight ratio then this jacket is a good choice. I actually purchased this jacket in two different colors because I like it so much. It goes great with jeans or khakis and is super comfortable. The cut is very slim so if you like a more blousy fit to your jacket or you need a little more room around the midsection then you should size up. I'm only 5'6" and I go about 165 lbs (athletic build) and the medium fits perfectly. Even Patagonia's typically long sleeves aren't as bad on this jacket. I live in Southern California and when the temperature drops here this jacket keeps me sufficiently warm.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
May 13, 2010
I love this fleece jacket! It's the softest and most comfortable fleece jacket I own. I can't say enough good things about the Araveto jacket. As far as fit, I'm 5'11" and 175lbs and the L fits me well.
Great jacket...Better sizing
October 13, 2010
Great jacket but huge difference between the size L and size M...the size L swallows me whole, and the M is just a bit too small...do not understand why all these companies make a Medium (38 -40) while the Large jumps up to (42-44) where is the size (40 -42)??? Just a thought to ponder.
March 28, 2012
Love this fleece. As you would expect from Patagonia the quality is great. Seems really durable so far and it was super windy the other day, temps around 35-40, and I was fine. I wear an extra large because I am a broad shouldered guy, so I found the sleeves to be slightly long in the extra large. But that could be just me - my typical button down shirt sleeve size is 32-34.Pros: Build quality, Performance
Not quite what I was looking for...
October 17, 2009
While a good fleece, it was much smaller than I thought. A medium fit more like a small. I found it to be quite thin as well, not as warm as the North Face I bought!
As comfortable as a hoody, and crazy versatile
March 13, 2012
The araveto jacket is warm, breathable, and has a great fit. In cold weather it makes a perfect layering piece over a Capilene 3 and under a Nano Puff Hoody and shell. Great for cooler evenings over a t-shirt or baselayer. I cannot recommend this enough.
November 08, 2010
nice and light wear for fall weather. i love patagonia swim wears so i decided to give this jacket a chance. so far i like it. i purchased a medium and it's kind of on the loose side(i'm 5'11 and 165lbs). i think it makes a perfect casual urban wear.Pros: Ease of use, Great value

This jacket is extremely warm and comfortable. The zipper is heavy duty and shows no signs of wear. Perfect for cold windy days and I was a great price for the quality jacket it was.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
