True baselayer, not a t-shirt
December 22, 2010
If you are used to a wicking t-shirt that you can wear on its own to workout in or go for a run in, this may not be the shirt for you. If you are looking for a form fitting baselayer shirt then this is definitely the shirt for you. Patagonia's Capilene product is one of the best moisture wicking fabrics out there. It's comfortable, it's lightweight and it doesn't snag easily like so many other polyester baselayers out there. As a bonus, Patagonia still makes Capilene 1 in the USA. Plus, Capilene has built-in odor protection. I use my Capilene 1 as a baselayer for warm weather runs and it actually works great as a water-shirt thanks to its UV protection. All in all, this is a great shirt.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
January 22, 2011
I love Capilene 1 shirts; I used to wear 'wicking, quick-drying' shirts by some other companies, but I have to say that the Capilene 1 product line outdoes them all. Of course, the higher price may put off some, but in my opinion, it's definitely worth it. You owe it to yourself to try at least one. If you like it, great. If you don't, never get another. I'm the type of person who sweats a lot - whether running, playing sports or doing other exercises. If there is a failure in this shirt, it's that it gets wet (like most other wicking shirts do for me). I guessI have to wait until Patagonia invents one that immediately evaporates sweat. The shirt wears well. Generally, with this kind of shirt (also from other brands), I avoid drying them in the dryer, just in case they lose that original fit. As for that, you're on your own. A truly great product.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost
Love these shirts !
October 27, 2009
I wear these Capilene shirts everyday and the capilene 1 bottoms to bed every night. Altrec shipped these fast too.
September 14, 2009
great lightweight shirt for hot weather
May 03, 2010
The Patagonia Capilene1 Top is truly the staple shirt in my everyday arsenal.I wear them as undershirts as well as on the trail.Never wear out always look great.
excellent shirt for gym workouts
August 14, 2009
I've also purchased Columbia shirts; I like them too, but the Patagonia is superior. I'll never wear cotton for workouts again.
June 03, 2008
This shirt is great for hot weather running. It wicks like no other shirt I have ever had.
Excellent lightweight baselayer
September 20, 2011
I own an extensive collection of Patagonia's Capiline baselayer garments, from Capilene 1 to 4. I puchased the Capilene 1 T for summer hiking/backpacking, to be worn under my hiking shirt. This is an extremely comfortable and light (but durable) garment. It is excellent for backpacking, due to its light weight and ease of washing. Patagonia also does a great job with odor control, which I have found to be a problem with cheaper products.Pros: Performance, Ease of use, comfort, Great design, Cons: Cost
December 07, 2010
This ia a great shirt for any season. I wear it as a base layer in the winter and as a T-shirt in the summer. It is light weight and extreemly comfortable. They breath extremly well in hot weather. They also dry quickly when wet. I especially like how compact they pack for travel. I have various colors that I use in my travel wardrobe. This is another quality Patagonia product.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Best T there is
October 21, 2011
Smooth and comfortable, great temperature regulation, dries in a flash. Looks good in the backcountry and in town. The fit is athletic. The best T there is.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Great Hiking Shirt and baselayer
April 25, 2012
I bought the Capilene-1 T shirt to be my primary hiking shirt for hikes in Florida and for backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail. I've tried numerous other brands of synthetic, wicking T shirts, but the Patagonia Capilene 1 is my favorite. I've used them for hikes in temperatures from 50s to 90s. It serves very well as a base layer for cool weather, and as a wicking T shirt for hot, humid weather. For colder weather down into the 30s or 40s, I would go with the Capilene-2, which is also an excellent baselayer. I prefer the Cap-1 for warmer days and hot, humid weather. The fabric dries quickly from rain or perspiration, and is very lightweight. I'm 5'6", weigh 160, and the Large size fits me best. I recommend the Cap-1 shirts for backpacking trips also, the material and seams hold up well under backpack shoulder straps.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Upsize and it's a great every day shirt.
May 10, 2011
I'm not really sure who walks around wearing a skin tight base layer in warmer weather (i could understand layered in the cold temps) but what do i know. If you go up one size this turns out to be a great workout, hiking, around the yard shirt. Unlike other satin/polyester type shirts I've owned it doesn't cling. So you tend to forget you're wearing anything other than cotton until you start sweating....then it's your best friend. The length is great, even when lifting over your head the shirt stays where it belongs. Kudos on the design! Got mine on sale, will snag more next time they are marked down. As great is it's been, not sure i could justify close to $40 for a shirt sleeve t-shirt.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: Cost
pricey, but they work
May 14, 2009
I wear these to the gym, while running, and outrigger paddling. They're great, the fabric doesn't pill up, after a dozen washings they still look new, no fading, and best of all they don't hold a lot of moisture while exercising like a lot of synthetic fabrics do. I've tried less expensive substitutes, but they just don't work as well. Never thought I'd pay $36 for a T shirt though.
More comfortable than cotton
June 16, 2009
I have three, and I'll be ordering more to make sure I don't have to run in anything else. The white one is great as an undershirt with casual work clothing too.
January 16, 2011
I've been wearing these for 7 or 8 yrs & they've always been great. But a few yrs ago they started making these from recycled material, and though green is great, the fabric suffered. This generation is tip top again, the fabric is super soft, silky indeed. Once again the most comfy t-shirt around. fit is slim but not too slim, i'm 5'9", about 155 lbs & the medium fits well with space to move.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
great shirt worth the price
November 17, 2009
These shirts are very stylish and keep you cool when your warm and keep you warm when your cool nuff said
4 out of 5 stars because nothing's ever perfect
August 29, 2007
Great shirt. I have a MHW Wicked Tee which is nice but does not feel as nice against the skin as Patagonia's capilene. I'm 5'10" and lean; I wear a medium in the body but my arm length usually requires the extra length of a large, so I'm usually in no mans land when I buy gear. Got a medium long sleeve and short sleeve and both fit very well in the body and sleeve length. I love wearing this on fishing trips as well as backpacking excursions; it stands up to it's descriptions. But I also love the days I get to wear this shirt to work. Wish the majority of my waredrobe was made of this. I'm a photojournalist and I'm always on the move if not crawling on my belly looking for the best angle. When I'm in this shirt I feel I can sweat and get dirty and still look work appropriate. I do wish that they would make a capilene version of the double-breasted three-piece suit because I want to be cool not mention well wicked when formal occasions arise.
GREAT T SHIRTS
July 27, 2009
I love the Capilene 1 shirts, so much that i sleep in them. They are very durable and work fantastic as a base layer or in hot weather as a t.
Good wicking layer
April 14, 2008
Purchased for use in Florida as a walk/run shirt. Has been great at wicking moisture and keeping as comfortable as possible for Florida.
Great base-layer shirt
October 04, 2010
Would highly recomend as either a base layer shirt in the cold or a shirt to wear in the summer. The shirt is very comfortable.
I will buy more
August 24, 2009
Comfortable, quick drying, and not stinky (yet).
April 10, 2008
light and compact soft and comfy drys fast highly recommended
Great for the Tropics and the southeastern US
June 23, 2013
This is the most comfortable shirt I've worn in hot, humid environments. Wore several in Costa Rica this year, and is great in Georgia, where its not quite as hot/humid. The shirt is very well made, fits well, and looks like it will last a long time. The only downside is they sell out very quickly; I'm trying to purchase some more for a planned trip to Peru...Pros: Great design, Performance, comfortable, Cons: sells out fast!
Love the feel!
June 16, 2008
I have tried other brands, but this is my favorite. Purchased primarily for hiking, but use it all the time. Great material!
The Next Generation of T Shirt
June 23, 2010
Its the 21st century. Why wouldn't you ditch the cotton T's your dad wears, and get undershirts that are more durable, stay white, wick moisture, dry fast, and suppress odor?
September 10, 2007
Like many of the reviewers, I think this is a terrific shirt. Very lightweight, nicely sized and drapes well. Dries quickly and dosnt smell like other polyster shirts after a workout.
There's nothing more comfortable and practical than Capilene 1
August 11, 2009
Capilene 1 is lightweight, comfortable, and great for all activities especially when traveling light. It washes and wears well; quick-dry feature is awesome for travel.
December 29, 2007
Not only does it make feel good contributing towards helping our environment, it's also the most comfortable T-shirt I ever worn.
Do not wear out and look like new after 10 years.
April 06, 2010
Bought Capilene T shirts 10 years ago and wear them a lot. They do not wear out and any dirt or food spills wash out.
Comfortable (good seams) and stylish
August 26, 2007
This shirt is a good value. It is comfortable and very good at wicking moisture away from the body. It cleaned up nicely in a lake after a day of hard sweat and was quickly dry and ready for another day.
Durable and versatile basic tee
August 24, 2009
I bought several of these silk-weight tees for some desert camping, and they proved very useful. They are cool on the skin and dry quickly. In the pack, they take up no space at all. Definitely high-performance and high-quality. A few go a long way. (Just don't lose em: they cost!)
Great combination of comfort and function.
February 21, 2010
I have several of these and enjoy the silky feel of the fabric, function for hiking, and durability. Use these year round.
May 17, 2011
This is a fantastic moisture wicking t-shirt that excels when trail running or riding a bicycle. It is comfortable and has an athletic fit that isn't binding and allows range of motion. Fabric is soft and feels good against your skin.
Excellent summer cycling baselayer
July 26, 2011
I use various weights and sleeve length Capilene garments as base layers year round. This silk weight SS Tee is great under my summer cycling jerseys. The feel on your skin is soft and light like fine silk. It never feels wet even in the 100 degree Texas heat. It dissipates moisture better than anything else I have tried and has some SPF too.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
Black even good in sun!
March 28, 2008
I've worn the black t shirt in the Hawaiian sun and have had no problem. It keeps you dry and cool like it says and I consider myself to sweat easily. I'm 5'7", 175 lbs and a large fits just right and may even be a little on the looser/bigger side. Light silky feel without feeling like plastic next to your skin.
Versatile shirt for warm or cool weather
March 11, 2010
Great shirt for walking the beaches of Maui or as an under-layer when skiing the slopes of Mammoth; Silky soft and top layers glide over it. I even wear the Capilene 1 under dress shirts at the office or wool sweaters during leisure activities. Increment improvement of natural odor control is appreciated for those long warm days during the summer.
Most Versatile baselayer
April 12, 2011
Excellent baselayer. Great in the summer due to its wicking and breathability. In the winter, it's also great underneath a fleece, great wicking ability and transferring of moisture to keep you warm. The best part is probably the Gladiodor.....can be worn for several days without stinking up! I have several, and will keep getting more!
Simply the best out there
October 11, 2009
Wore these throughout the Summer and while running a marathon.
nice t shirt
January 01, 2010
Nice t shirt, a little light weight. I might get the capilene 2 t next time.
Quality SW shirt
July 26, 2011
This is a quality silkweight baselayer. I live in Southern California so this shirt actually serves as a top for running when it is hot out. As a running top it does great. It's lightweight, comfortable next to my skin and it wicks moisture to dry quickly and keep me cool. When it is a little chilly out I'll use this under a lightweight shell or long sleeve shirt and it gives me that little extra bit of protection to keep me dry and comfortable. The fit on this shirt is very close to the body as a baselayer should be. It's no secret that Patagonia is one of the best brands out there and this shirt lives up to its name. So far my shirt is holding up very well. I follow the laundry instructions and I let mine air dry so I have had no problems with my shirt. If you want a comfortable baselayer that keeps you dry this is a good choice.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, moisture wicking
Husband's Favorite T-Shirt
December 06, 2010
My husband loves these t-shirts. He now has it in five different colors. In summer, very breathable and uses for everyday...even for dress. In winter, provides extra layer of warmth. He finds them extremely comfortable with great feel on skin. Best t-shirt ever.Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
Everyone Needs One
March 19, 2010
I don't know how I could get through a summer without this T Shirt. There is simply nothing better at wicking perspiration than this Capilene 1 "T". I have them in many colors but probably like white the best as I can wear it with my work/dress clothes. It's warmer than a cotton T shirt, & cooler than a cotton T shirt. How? I really don't know, but this shirt is absolutely magical.
Great wear for humidity
July 26, 2011
Commuted on my bike wearing this shirt on day with record dew point of 82. Moisture transfer was excellent. Dried quickly. Have not worn it for extended periods without washing.Pros: Performance, Great value
September 09, 2012
Great all around shirt. Great for training, hiking, biking, and even as a great night time sleep shirt. I have used this as a bottom layer for desert hikes, where I have worn a Solumbra long sleeve sun shirt over it. Wicks sweat very well, and dries super quick. Oh and if you chafe easily, then this is the best shirt I have ever had where I never come out with a rash, especially around where the shoulder harness rests. Just a super shirt.Pros: Build quality, super comfort
November 27, 2007
Patagonia's capilene 1 feels lighter and silkier than its predecessor silkweight. The neck is thinner, (and tighter fitting),drapes nicely, and it's a slimmer fitting shirt than the silkweight. I have not yet had a chance to observe the Odorguard in action. The black and utility blue are a must for this piece. It's multifuncional due to the fact that is able to keep you warm or cool. Wicking action is really good. Great regulator gear. (Own personal preference: the looser fitting neck on the silkweight design feels more comfortable around the neck.)
Can't be beat
October 06, 2008
The fit and comfort of this shirt is a no-brainer. I didn't realize it had odor protection until I realized (after wearing it 3 times) it didn't smell. Nice bonus.
best workout shirt
July 13, 2011
I use this shirt for gym workouts. It keeps me cool when I start to sweat, but does not get drenched in the process. The big plus is I don't smell horrible after my workout like some other workout clothing I have tried. The fit was athletic, not skin tight. The material was also very breathable. Buy this shirt, a little expensive, but worth it.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
May 15, 2010
This shirt looks and feels great! I bought the first one then bought a second and I will likely buy more!
Cap 1 Silkweight
July 24, 2011
The Capilene 1 Silkweight is an excellent all-around active summer shirt. Super lightweight and very comfortable. I went with size medium at 5'7'', 155 lbs. It fits slightly roomy, but not baggy, perfect for a stand alone summer layer. Or, if you prefer more of a skin-tight, baselayer feel, you could go 1 size smaller than normal.Pros: Build quality, Performance, comfort, Cons: Cost
December 05, 2010
Comfortable, quality shirt that can be be used effectively for layering in the winter, or as a stand-alone shirt in the warmer weather. Does not fade or weather with washing. Patagonia makes a great product.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
Very Light and Comfortable
September 26, 2010
Great tempereature regulator. I wear it under a Merino Bike Jersey. I mean what the point of having a Merino Wolls (Betasso) jersey if you put a plastic shirt under it. The Patagonia wool is King!
best you can own
April 30, 2008
I used to work for patagonia in Sydney and got 3 of these silkweight capiline tshirts for staff clothing...11years ago! Look like i bought them yesterday. I think they are alien shirts for lasting so long and i play hard all over the world from outback to NZ mountains, harsh sun on the sea in the islands, to N & S America. Best shirt in the universe.
I always love this T-shirt
February 18, 2010
Although it is pricey, it really works well and I do recommend this.
Cool Shirt for Exercise
November 16, 2011
Bought Capline 1 T-Shirt for exercising and warm weather hiking / biking. We won't have warm weather for a few months, but loving it for working out. The shirt run a bit smaller than a typical t-shirt. I'm 6' 2", 180 lbs with a slim build. A large is borderline snug, but very comfortable. These shirt weigh almost nothing and breath great. Don't know about durability yet (I'd keep away from loose Velcro hooks) but the build is great and I'm expecting years of good use. Looks sharp also.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
July 22, 2011
I have worn Capilene 1 t-shirts for years. They are definitely built to last. The 2 shirts that I just received are the same size as all my others but they fit much tighter. I didn't get the stretch version but I guess the regular ones are now a performance fit. I am returning these and ordering the next largest size. I don't need tight fitting shirts for hiking in the hot desert heat.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost, sized small
great fabric, wierd fit
December 21, 2010
I really loved the feel of this shirt, it is buttery soft, light and cool feeling. The stitching is great and the Patagonia quality is apparent. Unfortunately the fit was bizarre! The torso was way too tight. I have a thin build but this hugged me like a compression t-shirt. The arms on the other-hand were quite large and baggy? I also ordered a long sleeve and had no fit in the arms. Capilene 2 and 3 fit me great.Pros: Build quality, Cons: bad fit
great hot weather shirt
June 26, 2009
perfect for running in summer heat
April 20, 2010
Excellent T shirt as a baselayer or by itself, surprisingly sturdy!!
very good shirt
March 12, 2011
very good ,soft?thin, dry quickly,I like it very much! the size is a bit big,I height is 173CM,in normal times i wear M,this cloth i wear S is just OK.Pros: Great design
I Love You, Patagonia-- But...
January 27, 2011
Your sizing continues to frustrate. The new 2011 version of this shirt is quite different from 2010. I easily took a medium in '10, have to move up to large for '11. I'm still 5'9", 155 & the actual size is smaller-- including the sleeves. The fit seems to be pretty much the same. That said, the fabric is indeed better this year, lighter & softer. So long as one gets the sizing correct, this is still the best shirt available.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
these are just so good
March 09, 2011
the capilene t shirts are great. the material is smooth next to the skin. they wick well. i have 4 of them & wear them all the time. they just don't wear out. the fit is true to size.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
THE best all around sport use T shirt I've ever used!
June 24, 2009
I/we've been using the Patagonia #1 silkweight T's for as long as I can remember. It is the ONLY T that has held up to ten years of kayaking, the use of any and all gear with potentially abrasive straps or velcro, all kinds of backpacks, life jackets, rifle slings, and just about anything else I have had to carry over the years. Never had a thread pull on any of the shirts, unlike other top name brands. Add the Patagonia Houdini jacket, and you are set for just about anything!
Men's Capilene T-Shirt
December 20, 2009
The Capilene performed well and surpassed the performance of cotton. I would recommend this product to all.
July 28, 2011
Patagonia's Capilene 1 T-Shirt is comfortable, well-made and offers great performance. It's incredibly lightweight and really helps wick moisture away from your skin. Overall it's a great choice for a super-light baselayer.Pros: Build quality, Performance
March 07, 2011
This shirt is an excellent and versatile shirt for both warm weather and cold as a baselayer. It does fit snugly and so I probably won't be wearing it by itself in the summer, but it's great as an undershirt because it wicks so well. Plan to buy more in the near future Altrec customer service has been excellent too!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Great workout shirt!
March 07, 2011
I love these tech shirts for running the trails or lifting in the gym. Another quality product you can't go wrong with! I'm 6' 175 and normally wear a medium but prefer a large in this shirt.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
January 27, 2010
One of the best shirts I've bought for outdoors, fresh feeling, non-restrictive. Fantastic buy.
LOVE TO WEAR IT EVERYDAY
October 30, 2007
IT'S SOFT AS A SILKY T-SHIRT BUT COOL-LOOKING AS A SPORT SHIRT. SINCE I PURCHASED 2 SHIRTS I JUST LEFT ALL OTHER T-SHIRTS IN MY CLOSET AND WEAR THIS T- SHIRT EVERYDAY.
The best active t-shirt
March 02, 2010
These t-shirt's are expensive, but when they closeout a particular color, you can get a very good deal. If you often use wicking t-shirt's they are definitely worth it. I also use the running shirts from Addidas and Columbia's Titanium line, and the Patagonia shirts are slightly better. The Capilene 1 is very, very lightweight and therefore dries very quickly. They also have a reasonably snug fit, which looks very nice. These shirts are ideal for high-output exercise activities.
Excellent base layer
August 28, 2009
The quality is great, and the fit is perfect. I actually use these under my shirt and tie at work. They stay dry and comfortable all day long, as opposed to old-fashioned cotton tshirts. My only concerns have to do with all synthetic gear, in that you better be careful around the campfire.
September 16, 2010
patagonia has a winner in the capilene material. the weave does not snag easily like similar material and does not pill.
March 15, 2011
It's a great T shirt, quick dry, light, wicking and comfy, it almost has any features in summer. Moreover, it has a high quality and a low price. I am very satisfied with it.
Best Multipurpose Top
November 04, 2010
The Capilene 1 T is the most useful top I own. I use them for running, yoga, weight training, hiking and general wear when it's really hot outside. They keep you very cool and dry. Drape and fit is good, they wick very well and are super durable. I buy the next size up to have a looser fit for my activities. I'm 5'11" and the large fits me perfectly and still allows me to use this as a base layer also. Best of all they are still made in the USA!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, made in usa
November 09, 2009
Love the shirts, great fit, wear them all the time. Whether I'm working out or just knocking around. Bought two, I'll probably put a few mor on my Christmas list.
January 17, 2011
The PATAGONIA CAPILENE 1 T-SHIRTS ARE THE BEST ALL AROUND T-SHIRTS EVER! I HAVE WORN THEM AS UNDERGARMENTS AT WORK FOR YEARS AND AS WORKOUT AND HIKING SHIRTS, TOO. THEY LAST FOREVER AND CONTINUE TO LOOK AND FEEL GOOD ALWAYS. I EVEN USE THEM AS PAJAMA TOPS TO SLEEP IN!
excellent hiking shirt
October 07, 2010
I bought two of these shirts for a hiking trip. They sure exceeded my expectations. They are super comfortable and wick and dry really quickly. They do not pill and snag like other drifit shirts I have bought. They are easy to wash and dry really quickly when you need to wash them when you are traveling. I liked them so well I bought several more when I got home.
Capilene 1 T
September 25, 2011
I live in the desert and wore the capilene 1 T all summer and was amazed at it's comfort in 100 degrees and above. Great performance and comfort while active, and it's ability to contains odor's make this a winner. It is also an excellent base layer in all climates.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
THE ONLY UNDERSHIRT MY MEN WILL WEAR
January 29, 2010
DESPITE THE EXPENSE, MY 2 SONS AND MY HUSBAND WEAR Patagonia Men's Capilene 1 T Shirt AS THEIR UNDERSHIRTS DAILY. They like the way they feel next to their skin and the way they wick-away perspiration so they can appear cool at a summer wedding, an important job interview, etc.
Super Light and Full Length
December 19, 2007
I love this shirt, its incredibly light and fits very well. One big detail I love is that it is relatively long and fits well on someone with a long torso or helps cover your backside while riding a bike.
December 25, 2007
Absolutely loves the feel and fit of these shirts. Plus the longer torso was perfect for him.
