A versatile essential in any outdoor wardrobe, Patagonia's Capilene 2 Crew features open, highly breathable Capilene 2 knit fabric. The lightweight material allows for unhindered airflow and excellent wicking for endurance activities in warm to moderate temperatures. If you're comparing Capilene numbers, Capilene 2 is the fastest-drying Capilene baselayer available from Patagonia. Hikers and climbers like the low-bulk fabric and tapered fit because it layers well with practically any outerwear (Patagonia recommends pairing their Capilene pullovers with Capilene 3 or Capilene 4 fleece in frigid conditions). Patagonia gave their Capilene 2 Crew a curvilinear construction with seams that refuse to chafe beneath a pack or climbing sling. Capilene 2 is also made from quick-wicking, fast-drying 54% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) polyester that's treated with Gladiodor™ natural odor control. In a recent research program, Common Threads Recycling Program demonstrated that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. When you consider that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions (those greenhouse gasses) reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. It's a design that you can feel good about anywhere on the planet.

I was looking for something to take on a wilderness canoe trip that would pack light but help keep me warm on the North Woods nights and early mornings. This top exceeded my expectations. Not only was it remarkably warm for its light weight, it resisted odor after several days of use.
There were no down sides noted though. I can't speak to durability yet.

I oringally bought the Cap 2 top as a layering piece under Cap 4 for skiing, but now I wear it around by itself on cool 70 degree days away from the mountains. I love the fact that it wears really comfortably and can be used for 3-seasons.

Capilene 2 crew in both the long sleeve and short sleeve version work well on a stand-alone, or layer basis. For additional warmth during cold Maine Winters, I use the Patagonia R1 Flash Pullover over some combination of the
capilene 2 crew. Then I go over the whole thing with a down jacket (hooded) for the those real cold days. Light weight, versatile, stylish, & long wearing. As for colors in the long sleeve I recommend that you start with the white, and then consider the black which I like also.

I really like the open weave of this piece for breathability as I mostly have used it for trail running in the winter. The cut is also very nice, and the overall quality is typical Patagonia. I also wrote a review for the short sleeved shirt, in which I raved about the odor control treatment. After ten months, I'm less impressed. It's still noticeably better than untreated synthetics, but if it's a deal breaker, then go with superfine wool (from my own experience, I recommend Icebreaker).

Own several performance base layers including cap. This piece fits very well, athletic fit, not baggy. Works great in warm weather alone, appreciate the quality and wicking.

I had a few of the old mid and lightweight capilene and they were good. The new Capilene is just better. Sizes fit better and it really seems to wick better than the older stuff. Capilene 2 is a must have for anyone, it's perfect for all types of weather, from hot to cold.

These shirts are great, they keep me dry without the stink. They don't itch like most polyester does. A big +1 for Capilene 2.

This may be a wonderful product for wicking moisture.The material is so fine that the seams are pretty huge, and they itch. it's a great piece for cool and or warm days.

i feel this shirt is a much better design than the previous capilene lightweight. it fits better and more comfortable, and feel much lighter. i wear one for trail running, and one for daily wear under a fleece, etc. it's a great piece for cool and or warm days. (i'm not sure yet about the Gladiodor control feature...)

Patagonia's new chitin-based anti-odor treatment works as well as you could wish for a synthetic base layer. The cut is semi-fitted and very nice. The thin, open weave is very breathable, yet still provides a surprising amount of light insulation. Overall, it's excellent...typical Patagonia.

I have a few capilene 2 and 3 underlayer shirts. Cap 2 is good for spring and summer wear, but I prefer Cap 3 because it is also an excellent winter underlayer and can be worn alone in warm temperatures. Both cap 2 and cap 3 breathe well and resist body odor even after multi day hikes.
