Description

A versatile essential in any outdoor wardrobe, the Patagonia Capilene 2 Lightweight Crew for men features open, highly breathable Capilene 2 knit fabric. The lightweight material allows for unhindered airflow and excellent wicking for endurance activities in warm to moderate temperatures. If you're comparing Capilene numbers, Capilene 2 is the fastest-drying Capilene baselayer available from Patagonia. Hikers and climbers like the low-bulk fabric and tapered fit because it layers well with practically any outerwear (Patagonia recommends pairing their Capilene pullovers with Capilene 3 or Capilene 4 fleece in frigid conditions). Patagonia gave their Capilene 2 Crew a curvilinear construction with seams that refuse to chafe beneath a pack or climbing sling. Capilene 2 is also made from quick-wicking, fast-drying 54% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) polyester that's treated with Gladiodor™natural odor control. In a recent research program, Common Threads Recycling Program demonstrated that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. When you consider that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions (those greenhouse gasses) reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. It's a design that you can feel good about anywhere on the planet.

Versatile long sleeve shirt
January 11, 2012

Ordered both the Capilene 1 & 2 long sleeve crews recently. The Capilene 2 appears to be the more versatile of these two great shirts. I don't see wearing the Capilene 1 by itself in casual settings (due to how sheer it is#, but the Capilene 2 will be a go to casual shirt for me. It looks good, provides a little warmth and breaths so well that overheating shouldn't be a problem. So far, I've found it to be great for cool weather runs and workouts (50's to low 60's). I also plan on using it as a base layer for skiing and other cold weather activities. I'm a lanky 6' 2" / 180 pounds (16.5 - 34/35 in dress shirts). The large fits just how I like it - not snug, but not loose either. The neck seems typical of crews - collar close to the neck, but not tight. The sleeves run a little long, but don't slide down over my hands. The body is long enough to keep tucked in if wanted. My only concern with the shirt is that the fabric is pretty light and may be subject to snagging. That seems like an unavoidable trade off with the level of breathability. All and all, highly recommended.

Pros: Great design, Performance, versatile

Great Lightweight Base Layer
December 12, 2011

This is a most versatile lightweight base layer. I like being able to sleep in this shirt while backpacking. I hope out of the bag ready to go with the shirt on chilly mornings - with additional layers as needed. As the day warms up I shed the outer layers. If it gets hot I roll up the sleeves. Patagonia quality with high tech Capilene fabric. It works!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Great Baselayer
November 02, 2011

Patagonia makes some fantastic baselayers in the Capilene 1,2,3 and 4 versions. This is the lightweight version and is a comfortable shirt to wear, looks good and does a great job of wicking moisture. Not a warm shirt on it's own but works great as a baselayer. Patagonia considers this a slim fit but I think of it more as an athletic fit, fits snug but not tight. It is not compression fit like some other baselayers.

Amazing comfort
September 19, 2011

I bought this because I was looking for a non-compression base layer for cold weather hiking. I am more than impressed with the comfort of this top. I am 6'3" and 185 lbs. It is form fitting but not too tight. That is exactly what I was looking for. It is warm but breaths, wicking away moisture. This top is very lightweight and takes up very little space in my pack. Great for taking anywhere I go in case I encounter cold weather.

As Advertised
June 29, 2011

There are days i wish all clothes were made from Patagonia's capilene and this shirt reinforces this belief. Versatile on its own and a great layering piece. the longer body makes it easier to tuck than some other shirts. not as smooth as Cap 1 SW and runs a little bigger than some Cap 1 SW shirts i have.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever
Comfort: 5 / 5

Good warmth.
October 26, 2010

Capilene 2 crew fits differently than the Capilene 3. My torso is kinda long: the medium 3 fits me best, while the in Capilene 2, the large is a better fit. So my advice for taller, skinny people stuck in between sizes, go large for the Capilene 2. Capilene 2 has provided me with good warmth and wicking capabilities on cold, active days.
