Ideal as a baselayer for endurance activities in cool to cold temperatures, the Patagonia Capilene® 3 moves moisture effectively to keep you dry. It's brushed interior retains heat, while it's smooth jersey exterior glides easily beneath layers. The fit is contoured and sleek without being restrictive. Made from quick-wicking, fast-drying and insulative 64% post-consumer recycled (and 100% recyclable) Capilene® 3 polyester, with Gladiodor™ natural odor control. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene® Core Performance® Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports.

I have purchased a number of these and I am very satisfied. They fit well, are quality made, and work well for running in cool weather. I have Capilene 1 and 2 also, which I wear under shirts or in warmer weather for running.

The new capilene seems softer than my old stuff, but just as functional. Warm and thirsty fabric keeps you comfy whether powering up the hill or resting on the windy ridge. The neck is a little bigger than it should be though.

This garment is great as a base layer, wicking away moisture, or as a stylish sporty shirt in less than warm weather. I’m still in awe at the positive comments both my wife and I receive from coworkers when we where ours on casual Fridays. I liked the Patagonia 3 so much I bought two more zip necks, one crew neck, and a Patagonia Capilene 4. The 4 has an inside layer (the soft material that almost appears to be sprayed on) that is a good bit thicker than the 3 and a good deal warmer. The odor control may be an issue as some (e.g. Backpacker) rated it as the lowest in a 4-way comparison. I have yet to have a problem during snowshoeing and winter hiking. Summer backpacking should test this attribute more thoroughly. I will not hesitate to buy more of these shirts.

These shirts are great! Comfortable on the skin, tight enough to layer over, but not too tight to be restrictive or appear 'painted on'. Recently skied for 3 hours in 25F temps with just this shirt, vest, shell and did not get cold. If you can get these for less than $50, do it.

I rock climb, hike/trek mountains, and wear these as casual cloths all the time! I own 2 pairs and love them both! This shirt LOOKS better than most of the shirts that I own and feels better than all of them.

I took a combination of Capilene 3 and Capilene 1 on a recent trip to Iceland where summer weather can be highly variable. I was impressed with the warmth, wicking capability and comfort of the Patagonia shirts. They look good too. I found the Capilene 3 crew comfortable enough when it got warm or when hiking and warm enough when it got cooler.

Better Fit - longer sleeves and body than last year's capeline which set in seams on shoulders instead of Raglan sleeves. However.... the new '06-07 versions have Two seams running down each arm right over your anterior deltoid and inside of your biceps. It drove me nuts whenever I used my arms in front of me in a pulling motion - like in most climbing moves. Bring back the old style or move the seams to the back of the arms.

This shirt works great. I used it on a backpacking trip along the black mountin crest trail near Mt. Mitchell, NC in November. There was plenty of ice and wind, but I stayed warm. Works great as a base layer or by itself when hiking.

The material has an almost natural feel to it being that it is synthetic. The construction of it is fine and fits good.

Very good all around quality, great fabric... will keep you warm but not over heated... easy care to wash, durable and long lasting... natural odor control... versatile to wear, you can wear in different situations.
The only con is the fit on the redesigned Capilene Crew 3 because the neck is looser and the length longer. I liked the older versions fit better, I think it was redesigned for a more muscular fit, a thicker neck I guess. The fabric is even better though, still the best.

This shirt is scratchy, even after several washings. I don't know why: and the fit is small. I usually fit in an XL, since I am 6'1" and about 215 lbs with broad shoulders, but not with this one. For the money, and comfort I prefer the Marmot base layers. Heck, even the Columbia Titanium half zip is more comfortable than this crew.
