Fine base layer
January 23, 2011
Snuggly warm, fits nicely, very comfortable. Perhaps a tiny bit on the small side, although XL fit me perfectly at 5'9", 200 lbs. Just walked the dog in -25 degrees wind chill with just this and a ski jacket; will take it with me out to Utah for a week of skiing in March.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useGreat travel layer.
May 30, 2011
Having bought this up a size to wear as a shirt i couldn't be happier. It's proven to be a great travel shirt, sitting on planes, running through airports and hitting the ground running. I own both the zip and t style neck and prefer the zip. The shirts just hangs better, though it could just be in my head. Look to get more next time i see on sale in my size.

not slim fit as advertised
November 21, 2011
As usual great patagonia quality. The fit was advertised as slim fit. Seems that newer capilene are not really a slim fit but fit larger than expected.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of useGreat for Layering
November 01, 2010
Great for layering. Wear under other layers and I stay warm for hours. Ideal for hiking, skiing, snowboard, any thing wear you are outside.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great valueCapilene 3 is great for fall!
November 07, 2011
I have been wearing Patagonia's Capilene 3 crews in early spring and fall for their superior performance in the range of temperatures that you get in these months. (45-65ish) They also make great base layers for winter months. I purchased this to have a long sleeve performance top that would be stylish enough to wear around town after a short hike or a round of disk golf. It fits the bill perfectly. Only cons are a little tightness in the shoulders and extra long sleeves. Also, don't let hook and loop closures (velcro) touch the seams, it tears it up. Length is plenty long enough for tucking in. I purchased a small. 5'5" 140lbs medium build.

The Cap 3 rocks!!!
September 16, 2012
I love Patagonia's Cap 3. It's perfect for hiking or bike riding in sunny CA on cool days. It's lighter than the Cap 4, but still keeps you quite warm. It's also nice as casual wear as well - I just wear a t-shirt underneath and it looks quite fashionable. It shipped really fast from Altrec as well, and Altrec has great prices, usually better than Patagonia's own website, so will always do my Patagonia shopping at Altrec from now on.
Pros: Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueMy favorite shirt to wear
July 27, 2012
Easily my favorite shirt to wear. Comfortable, looks good, versatile, and fits well. Can wear this on the trail or in town, you'll be fly either way. I have 4 of these and will continue to buy these in the future.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Cons: Costnice baselayer
February 23, 2011
I really like the Capilene 3 Zip Neck it's a perfect midweight baselayer. This is my second one. My other Capilene 3 is the T-Neck. I decided to get the Zip Neck, so i can unzip it to cool down when need be. With the T-Neck you don't have that option. Anyways, I wore it under my MHW Exposure II Parka when it was 35 degrees outside and it kept me totally warm. The fit wasn't like skin tight like the picture depicted on the product page, but it was pretty close. I totally recommend the Capilene 3 Zip Neck as it does the job.

great!

The best keeps getting better. Warm, comfortable, durable, quality material, and good looking. What more could you ask for? I'm 5'9" ~150 and got the medium at it fits very nicely with a layer below.

nice base layer for winter
February 12, 2012
I recommend this is the best base layer for a winter trekking. This is very light and is comfortable warmth. Zip up system is ventilation. It is nice for winter trekking that Length of arm sleeve and body are longish.
Pros: Performance, Great valueStill the best
January 25, 2011
After a few years trying out different options, I'm back to Capilene and thankful for it. While the "compression" craze seems to be going strong within long underwear, I find that the other gear doesn't keep me as warm (and certainly isn't as comfortable) as Capilene.

Style and Quality
November 02, 2010
I have a number of base layers from a number of different manufacturers, but Patagonia Men's Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck has the best combination of style, quality by a long margin. It keeps me warm in windy SF.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGreat for running.
April 16, 2013
I bought this for my son for running. He commented that it fit well and was light and very comfortable. He is 6' 2", 159 lbs. I got a large and it fit well.

Patagonia Capaline Midweights
November 30, 2012
Today Altrec delivered 3 new Patagonia Capaline Midweights. My son and I are are huge Patagonia fans. The quarter zips are the perfect layer beneath our Patagonia Gore Tex shells to combat Chicago winters. Very high quality construction, great fit and colors. Like all Patagonia products , very durable. Perfect for the Bears game this Sunday!

Men's Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck
February 04, 2011
This is another outstanding garment from Patagonia—silky and smoooooooth. It's marked "slim fit" but I would say it's closer to regular fit. Nevertheless, outstanding quality and a killer color combo.

Excellent Shirt
November 16, 2011
I use this shirt alone for hiking or running in cool weather, as a baselayer for skiing, or over another baselayer for cold weather running. Slim fit, but not ridiculously so.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: CostCapilene 3 Zip
July 08, 2011
Patagonia makes some fantastic baselayers in the Capilene 1,2,3 and 4 versions. This is the midweight zip version and is a comfortable shirt to wear, looks good and does a great job of wicking moisture. The zipper is a nice option to vent if you start getting a little warm

Comfortable and functional
March 04, 2011
These new capilene base layers from Patagonia are a step up from the old ones. Much softer, better feel for casual wear while still just as functional when hiking, biking, etc. I am 6Ft 1" 175 lbs and while Patagonia fleeces and such I normally order medium, with the base layer products(slim fit) I order large and that works fine
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value, comfortNice shirt, but could be better
December 19, 2012
I liked the shirt for the feel and function. I do think the construction is not quite to usual Patagonia standards. The logo looks glued on rather than embroidered. Overall, this shirt works well and I will keep it.

Cons: Costgreat product, lightweight
December 30, 2012
I bought this shirt for my husband. He never buys himself clothes. He likes a more sporty, laid-back look, so this was perfect. The blue looks great on him and it's not too warm. I bought this shirt with a dual-purpose in mind: casual wear, and as a base layer for outdoor activities in the winter. I only wish the Patagonia line wasn't so expensive.

The Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck is even better than imagination. It's very warm and dry speed. I like the style of the zipper with like this. Capilene 3 Midweight Zip Neck is very breathable. I think it is the best underwear! So take it!

Great Layer
March 18, 2013
I am 6'1" 200 lbs. and bought an XL. It fits a little loose for me which I wanted. Perfect layer under all my jackets. They breathe very well and keep me dry on those hard working days. Have put it through the washer around 20 times with no size change. I bought 4 more.

Patagonia's Cap 3 Fire's Up
September 17, 2010
Excellent baselayer that does exactly what it says. Great fitting and hugs my body just right with not much looseness. Provides great warmth and stretching. I bought it in the 'Light Fire' color and my girlfriend loves it. What else is there to say? Buy it, you'll love it!
Pros: Build qualitygood shirt for nordic pursuit
December 18, 2010
I use this shirt for skate skiing with a wind breaker type vest and it keeps me at a perfect temperature. As always good Pagagonia quality.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceTop quality baselayer

Excellent Performance Top!
February 16, 2011
I purchased this for winter trail running. The quality is excellent and seems an improvement over past versions from Patagonia. Fit is true to size and the weight is perfect for active endeavors in cold weather. I recommend this top!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceBreathable baselayer
December 08, 2011
It's breathable and comfortable. It can keep your body dry when you get much sweat? So even if you are in cold weather, you won't get hurt by body temperature drop. Also, zip style are suit for someone with a big head.

Great Capilene 3
November 16, 2011
It is the top outdoor products I've ever used. The Patagonia Capilene 3 can keep me warm while hiking. And it can control the wetness which makes me feel great comfort.
Pros: PerformanceRecommended
January 17, 2011
After receiving email requests from Altrec to review this product and receive a discount for the review, I'm complying. I usually don't. Anyway, this product fits snuggly which for me is good since even though I am old I am pretty thin. So not for very large persons, I think. Otherwise, nice and comfortable and warm in below freezing days as a basic layer. No need for a sweater. If you have muscles, it'll show them off as well if you want to impress someone.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, warmGreat layer
May 10, 2011
I purchased this item as a layer for an upcoming Mt Rainier climb. I have taken it out on a few training hikes and it has performed wonderfully. It is very comfortable and does not cause any restrictions to movement in any way. Temperatures have been between 40-50 and after 6 miles with a 50 lbs pack, I still feel completely dry. My only complaint would be that I would like it to be a little more form fitting in the midsection. I am 6'4" 200 lbs and it just hangs from my chest and does not cling to my waist at all. Other than that, this is a great product that performs well.

Good base layer for cold weather activities
April 01, 2011
This Patagonia base layer is great for keeping warm during those cold weather workouts. I wear it under a light windproof jacket for cycling in cool/cold weather and it is is the perfect weight. Fit is somewhat slim through the armpits/shoulders (I am a stocky size medium: 5'8", 175 lbs). I might buy size large next time. Fabric is great and does not develop that base layer odor too quickly (takes several wears). Overall a great piece.

Patagonia Quality
May 16, 2012
Never disappointed with Patagonia quality. Arms are cut longer than with other manufacturers, making shirts fit perfectly for taller wearers (I have 36" sleeve length.) This will be great base layer for winter activities or comfortable top for lounging around the house.
