Patagonia quality in a basic three pocket fleece jacket. This jacket is light weight and windproof. The fleece fabric has a burley look and feel. I found that the fit is true. I am 6`1 and the large works perfectly, even in the sleeves. In my opinon, the Retro-X is worth the cost.

There's not much to say about the Retro-X. It is what it is; a simple, no frills, heavy weight fleece. There are no bells and whistles ie, pit zips, internal pockets,etc. It's made of the heavier fleece (compared to say a Snap-T), so it's very warm. It definitely seems well made, but no surprise there. Patagonia stuff is usually really good quality, and so it should be. $Ka-ching$! But you'll have it for a long time. For what it's worth I think it runs on the big side. I'm happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone considering it.

I gave this jacket to my husband for his birthday, and it is a Patagonia 'classic' in every way....high quality fabric and lining, extra details on zippers, cool color, and great style. He will wear it for early morning 'dawn patrols' looking for waves, under a shell for skiing, and even riding the train to work. Highly recommend this- wish I had one!

I was initially excited about this purchase given all the positive reviews and the fact that it's my 'go-to' brand of choice for all things outdoors. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed... To address the fit, I was extremely surprised at how short the length of the jacket was. It hit right above my waist, and if I raised my arms (sleeve length was fine, by the way), the jacket would ride up considerably. Most of my t-shirts are longer than the jacket, which is a little ridiculous to me. I ordered the prescribed 'Medium' (6'0", 185 lbs, athletic build), but it just wasn't for me. I love Patagonia, but this design just doesn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps it's just the jacket I bought, but the zipper teeth didn't stay together even after I zipped it up, seemed like a rare defect. On the other hand, the fleece is very warm and the insulation is a great wind barrier. Needless to say, I've returned the jacket. It's not that I wouldn't recommend the product, because it does have some great details, it's just that those details weren't enough for me to keep it.

one of my first ptagonia purchases. The fit is on the wider side in terms of jackets, but that how most of patagonias stuff is in my opinion. That said this is an amazing coat. toasty warm and and style classic. you wont be disappointed.

This is a very nice jacket. The windproof layer makes it warmer than most fleece coats. The fit is a little short in the body, however so I would keep that in mind when choosing your size. Feels like it would break it and be super comfy after a few months of wear

Its called a classic for a reason!! love this coat, my second one. i also have the vest.really warm and comfortable!! the sizing is a bit big compared to the vest in a medium. But doesnt take away anything a couple of washes should do the trick!! get one!!

I bought this jacket for my son. He is very style conscious but likes sport clothes of all types. He loves this jacket as it is ultra warm but also an attractive color. The jacket is a pleasure to wear as it is furry!

This is my second Retro-X Jacket. I ordered it in black. It is very warm, comfortable, and wind proof. I love the chest pocket, as I keep my money and debit card in it. It's minus 1 outside right now, and it keeps me toasty!

I am a freshman in college and bought this coat for the cold midwest winters. I am 6'0 145 lbs. and found that a medium was too short on me. I sent it back and ordered a large. The large was better however the coat was extremely wide and a little bit too short still. Maybe I just need to gain some weight but it seems to me like tall, skinny people should probably go with a different coat. It is extremely warm though.

Wind Prrof and Warm: OH YEA!

I had friends years ago who had the Retro Cardigan, before the windproof barrier. They loved it. I never got one. Well obviously I finally did and WOW was it worth the wait! The combination pile fleece and windproof barrier make this the near perfect jacket for so many activities from chilly morning camp coffee duty to taking out the garbage to jaunts to and from the parking lot at work or the mall. This jacket is worth every penny!

THE RETRO JACKET IS ANOTHER GREAT PRODUCT FROM PATAGONIA. THE FIT IS LOOSE FOR LAYERING AND THE LONGER PILE IS STYLISH. THE COMPOSITE LINING KEEPS THE WIND AT BAY BUT IS SLIGHTLY STIFF. A GREAT JACKET.

Great Jacket but a Short Torso

Actually saw this jacket in a store in a smaller size and was determined to find it at a better price and the right size. Of course, Altrec.com delivered! As always, Patagonia provides a great product, but having known how their product is cut, I should have realized that it's a always a short fit in the torso. The shoulders are a bit generous but I don't mind the extra gap as it leaves a lot of room for layering. Great Jacket but wish it were a bit longer.

great jacket, really warm and perfect for almost all conditions.It is warm enough to wear on it's own most of the time, and it is casual looking enough that when I go out I do not look like I just came off the mountain. Not bad for chilling around your base camp either. Only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is I feel that a jacket that is designed for this purpose should have warm pockets which the Retro-X doesn't have. Other than that there is nothing I can complain about as this jacket does what it was designed for.

Were the zipper is on the collar was thin. The inside of the sleeves, I thought they would be soft, but the inside was not comfortable. The outside was nice. Perfect fit, true to size.

Have enjoyed the coat and still wear it even though it is probably a size too small. If you are questioning the size or are between sizes, go for the bigger one. Fleece has a little piling on the elbows, but it has been worn a lot for 2 winters.

Warm and fashionable. Bought during the summer to keep me warm while traveling on cold commercial airplanes. Expect to enjoy it during the fall, winter and spring. Only wish that the interior was a bit softer.

patagonia fleece jackets run relatively short. i'm 6'2" and this jacket just covers a few inches below the waist. a large fits "just right" without much room for a bulky sweater - i'm a 42 suit. this is wind resistant, however, the pile on the fleece has a more "woolly" texture than the usual synchilla fleece.

Love this jacket! It's not too technical, no pit zips, no soft shell, no drawcords, no hoodie, no stretch material. This jacket was not meant for any of these features. Just a classic heavy duty windproof jacket. I'm about 5'6", 140 lbs and got size Small. The sleeves are perfect, pockets are deep, and the length is slightly lower than my waist. There's no inner pocket though but I don't care

I purchased my new Patagonia Retro-X Cardigan to replace an old one that I LOVED! I must say...I like my new Retro-X Cardigan EVEN MORE! It has the "P.E.F." barrier; a wind stopper....which my old Retro-X didn't have. I love the look (appearance) and feel (how it "handles" in the North East Climate). I have always been happy with the performance of my Patagonia products...HOWEVER!!!!!ALTREC.COM has surpassed my expectations!!!! I knew I wanted a Patagonia Retro-X Cardigan...Altrec.com went WAY ABOVE and BEYOND my expectations!!!!! I am thrilled that my Patagonia purchase went through Altrec.com!!!! This Patagonia retro X jacket is excellent. So excellent that I'm going to buy another one,This time for my wife. I was going to go with the North Face Denali. I like the fleece better on the Patagonia, It's kind of furry looking. Not as furry but thicker than the Mountain Hardware monkeyman jacket. The Patagonia is a two layer jacket, The outside layer is a thick furry fleece and the inside is a different material that allows the jacket to slide on and off easily. If like the look of the monkeyman, The Patagonia jacket is a better & warmer substitute. I received the jacket within 36 hours of placing my order. Thanks Altrec!

This jacket is amazing. I was looking for a really warm fleece that had good wind protection. The retro was perfect for both and has a great 90's look to it, especially with the high collar and 2 tone colors. On a brisk day, put on this bad boy to stay warm and comfortable, and look pretty darn cool as well.

An impressive piece of clothing! It's warm and light, not overly restrictive, though the windstopper liner makes the arms of the jacket feel stiff at times. I can wear the jacket over a long sleeve t-shirt in 30 degree weather and feel fine. Excellent quality; you know this jacket will last.

Retro X revisited

I used to have a retro jacket but without the membrane....made the jacket limited as wind cut right through it so I got rid of it. The retro-x solved that problem, now I have a great jacket to throw on and face the Wyoming winter. For really cold conditions you can wear a shell over it but because the jacket is pretty bullky you need a big roomy shell. I'm 5' 8" and 145 lbs and a mens medium fit me well both in the body and arms. There is no limitations to movement. For really active pursuits it may be too warm but works great around town or shoveling the walk. A great classic made better.

Loved this so much, I also bought two for my sons in college. Blocks the wind totally; super warm for being a 'lighter' coat. I think this will last even longer than my last Patagonia coat, that I bought in 1985 and still have.

I chose this jacket because my college-age kids love all things Patagonia. I was not disappointed in any way. The retro-styling, color and fabric make it a clear winner. It is a little boxy in the cut, also running a tad to the smaller side, so if you are in-between sizes, order up. This jacket will be in my son's closet for a long, long, time.

After receiving the right size, was pleased with this jacket. Originally ordered a medium but found that the arm holes are cut very small and was binding around the arms/shoulders. After receiving the Large, found it was more comfortable although a little long in the sleeves. Great warm jacket with the wind barrier. Yes, we do wear jackets like this in North FL. The coal color was not a dark as shown on the webpage. It is more of a medium grey. When you get it in the sunlight, it almost looks sun faded:(: Overall satisfied with this jacket.

Fabric is a little stiff and it is not an atletic cut, but I still liked it. Fuzzy! It is extremely warm and all of the dogs in my 'hood were totally into me in the fuzzy beast!

This jacket is excellent in pretty cool to very cold weather, it blocks the wind and has plenty of room to layer beneath, despite an earlier review. While fly fishing (with snow on the banks) the jacket arm got soaked but the jacket wicked the cold wet water off my arms and dried fairly quickly - I thought I was in for a miserable day after that spill but it turned out great. Great product all around.

This was my first fleece jacket from Patagonia, normally a North Face or Helly Hansen buyer, but loved the look of this retro fleece. I recently bought the vest in this style which prompted me to try the jacket. Arrived quickly as promised and looked great, color (green) was very similar to the photo quality. Well made with a lining, a little stiff due to the lining but I'm guessing that will change with a bit of wear. I'm 6' 185lb, bought the Large and it fits well. I liked it so much I just bought another one in the Nickel color. I'm sure these will be worn for many years to come. Hope this helps if you are considering a classic looking fleece.
