Description

Clinging to the windswept north face of Forbidden Peak your mind meanders to images of Alaska, the Alps, even the Karakoram. Sometimes the North Cascades feels like those far away ranges that demand the warmth and function of the Patagonia Das Parka. This definitive belay parka delivers exactly what the serious storm-battling alpinist needs: how did I get here idiot-proof warmth. Cold, wet and admittedly a little scared, this is no way to traverse life, but fortunately the Das Parka takes some of the edge off. Simply put its saving your butt by sheding snow, blocking the wind, and offering the best-in-class, high-loft hollow-fiber PrimaLoft® One (170-g) insulation that stays warm, even when wet. Its light yet tough polyester quad-ripstop shell fabric that is treated with a Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish, is reinforced at the shoulders, elbows and hips for exceptional abrasion resistance as you worm around in your compromised position. Snugging up its adjustable, helmet-compatible hood and tall collar to protect your face, your partner finally anchors the move that releases you from the biter bite of the belay ledge. Warming your digits in the insulated handwarmer pockets, your reach into the zippered chest pocket to retrieve your drying gloves, and check that the inside mesh pockets and 2-way zip are secure before launching your final attack. Sometimes extraordinary circumstances require the superior performance of the Patagonia Das Parka.

Men's Das Parka 4.6 5 18 18
Patagonia Das Parka I wanted a jacket that was warm but lightweight, and that is exactly what I got in the Das Parka. The quality of construction is typical Patagonia excellence. I like to think of this jacket as a piece of art that you can wear, and I may live in it until spring. Additionally, it is supposed to shed light rain (haven't tried it in a downpour yet), and I got it on sale. I chose the Deep Mango color for the visibility factor. My main concern is that a ramble through blackberry brambles might tear it to shreds. Also, the retail cost is not inconsequential. January 16, 2012
Impressed so far I've only had my DAS parka for a few days but have been out in the cold with it and I'd like to say a few things about it: 1) I'm 5'9" and about 175 lbs. I ordered the medium and wow is it huge on me. Very unexpected even though I knew they are oversized. I considered returning it for the small but decided to keep it as the drawcord at the bottom pulls tight enough to keep it from hanging loosely and letting warm air out. It is sized just right to throw on over a big fleece, a goretex AND it still doesn't look too silly all by itself over a Tshirt. 2) The quality of construction seems immpecible, something I expect from Patagonia being a pretty loyal user for almost 20 years. 3) It is warm but not crazy warm like my North Face Himilayan Parka. I'd say its about as warm as my Patagonia down hoodie (which is very thin and light) but not as warm as a medium to thick down jacket. That said I live in B.C. where winters are cold and wet and I've seen what a combination of sweat and heavy wet snow does to down - renders it useless in minutues....that's why I bought the DAS. I've already found that at 0 celcius (32F) that its a bit cold to wear with just a shirt underneath. Throw a fleece on underneath and it feels so much warmer. 4) The hood is the best part. It is simply amazing. I'll never buy another jacket again without a hood. The hood is so large that your head dissapears into is silky warmth. I've only had my DAS for a week but I love it already and will be wearing it faithfully for the next few years I am sure. This Patagonia piece is a classic and I hope they always sell it so that in 10 years when this one is worn out I can get another. January 14, 2012
Best synthetic insulation for cold weather This jacket is great for anything in cold weather, from climbing to belaying to bivouacking. It's roomy enough to accommodate several layers of clothing underneath. Stuff sack helps compress it to a reasonable size for packing. It's also easy to wash and dry. If I had to buy another heavy-duty parka, I wouldn't hesitate to get another DAS. July 22, 2011
so so This coat is lightweight, but it's not fit well. I don't like the color, either. And not recommend it. Might go to buy the other nice for the gift in winter. March 26, 2011
Used the jacket while hiking in the mountains. Great for use on breaks, keeps the warmth in and very light to carry. Didn't want to wear it hiking downhill because of the tree limbs which could snag it. Overall a nice warm jacket you can use on the trail and in your everyday life. February 14, 2011
Great Jacket! DAS parka has been a great jacket! In zero degree weather it has kept me very comfortable with just a tshirt underneath. The hood is a great addition to have and works great. The only complaints I have are the zipper which is a bit clumsy to zip up and the sinch cord which pops out at a number of different places and often finds its way into your face or prevents you from using the zipper. The sizes run a bit big. I am 5'10 160 lbs and a medium is still a bit bulky (yet the small is too small). If you're inbetween, unless you're playing around in -50 degree weather I would go smaller as there isn't much of a need for underlayers. Great jacket. Although expensive, you get what you pay for. February 12, 2011
Reasonable I may have developed a high expectation of Patagonia, so I have to say this particular style could and should be improved by Patagonia. Its too loose, poor quality and feels very ordinary. I was not very impressed. January 14, 2011
Because it had wanted a warm down, it made it to P Because it had wanted a warm down, it made it to Patagonia. Patagonia and warmth are the highest though it does. The body seem to be in Hawaii even if it is cold in the face at the midwinter. Every day is comfortable even in winter if this warm quilted down coat exists. January 10, 2011
Best coat I have ever owned I was looking for a warm coat because I am cold natured. This coat is amazing. When I first received it I wondered just how warm it could be. It was very thin and there was something inside me that said a coat this thin can't possibly be very warm. I live in Texas and I know it doesn't get as cold compared to where some people live, but it gets cold to me. This weekend it got down in to the low 20's with snow. I went out side in my Das Parka with just a t-shirt under to play in the snow with my boys, and it was awesome. I got so hot I had to unzip it. Now my three boys want one as well. I love how a coat this light weight can be so warm. January 10, 2011
Toasty Jacket This Das Parka is one of the warmest jackets that I own. Patagonia is by far my favorite brand when it comes to outerwear. Their prices are a bit high, but well worth the money if your looking for durability and high quality. Still not sure exactly what they put in their jackets to make them so warm and windproof, but it is phenomenal. If your looking for a jacket to keep you nice and toasty in weather 30 degrees and below - you can't go wrong with the Das Parka. Amazing product. January 7, 2011
Excellent warm jacket Just what I was looking for. This jacket is incredibly warm and comfortable and was able to keep me feeling good in a -20C freezer with a couple layers underneath. I look forward to getting the chance to test this in Antarctica this year, but I'm sure it will hold up just as well. Everyone seems to agree that the DAS is one of the premier insulated jackets on the market and I have to echo that sentiment. Beware that the jacket does run large. I'm a 5'9" guy with a slim build and I tried on a medium at a local retailer and found it to be pretty huge (long in the body/arms as well as excessively baggy). I ordered the small from Altrec and it fits perfectly. There's still room for several base and mid layers underneath with full range of motion. It also fits very well under my goretex shell. I got the bali blue and found that I really like the colors. I wasn't sure when ordering, but it's really not as bright, shiny, or annoying as I thought it may be! If you are spending time outside in frigid conditions, this is the jacket for you. September 27, 2010
great jacket Awesome Jacket. Very warm, great hood, capacious internal pockets (great for drying out your gloves/socks after a long day, or pre-warming'em before leaving the tent) & good free running 2way zipper.Overall great. September 17, 2010
Das Bomb! Love my Das Parka! It's incredibly warm and super lightweight; perfect for cold weather belays or simply sitting around the camp fire in frigid conditions. Either way, this Patagonia jacket will serve you quite well in winter. August 16, 2010
Great jacket Warm, and well made. A great jacket for many occasions, everything from the post ice climb to the winter walk to the pub. Great buy. May 31, 2010
Great product and service Very light, very warm, good looking parka. Great website and great service January 11, 2010
Great Jacket for cold winter This is a great jacket for cold winter. The warmth of this jacket feels good, and very lightweight. The color I got was Continental Blue, and I really like this color. This jacket will satisfy everyone. November 22, 2009
das jacket This was a gift for my husband, and it has been very well received. Great in the cold. Warm yet very light. Hood works very well over helmet. Jacket is good looking, true to size and is a good buy. December 27, 2008
Excellent Warmth This jacket, or parka, is ideal for frigid cold conditions, (wind and rain inclusive), for it provides lightweight, warmth in a terrific design that is comfortable and not puffy. The main zipper slides smoothly and quickly to the zip garage that has a very smart length--right under your nose. The hood is as well-designed as the jacket. This jacket is warmer, and the hood more comfortable and with greater coverage than the Micro-Puff Hooded Jacket. Wear it below zero temp's with a Capilene 1, and you will not be cold.
