Mr. Handsome look
December 02, 2010

When I received the package, I couldn't believe the light weight on my hand. The hoody was nicely made, color was bright and rich. It was a Christmas gift for my man, but in case it is not 100% satisfactory for look and warmth, I decided to show it to him on the same evening. He was pleased with the hoody, and took it for thanksgiving get away. So far he has been used it everyday, including two times of special dinner at restaurants. The hoody is very soft and warm, and chic. He wants to get me one, too.

Great Jacket!
November 26, 2012

I am 5'8" and weigh 140 lbs and the small fits me well. Pros: lightweight, packs down small, warmer than expected for how light the jacket is, zippers and draw strings work well, hood cinches down tight around head, interior pocket is nice, very few stray feathers, the look and the feel/comfort are as expected from Patagonia. Cons: The jacket is a little bulky, especially around the hood. However, the hood has been very useful on cold and windy days up on the mountain and for me is definitely worth the added bulk. In the future I might consider buying the same jacket without the hood for a more casual look.

Nice Jacket
March 14, 2011

I purchased this jacket for travel since it is so warm and packs well. I wore in in 25 degree weather and was nice and warm. Jacket is misleading in how warm it is for such a light weight jacket. Perfect travel jack!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Patagonia full zip down hoody
December 23, 2010

Best purchase ever! Worn inside and outside on really cold days. Not your usual bulky down so comfort level is really high but doesn't sacrifice warmth. Husband and son are both 6'2", 160 pounds, and wear a size medium in this jacket which still leaves some room for thin layering. Lack of bulkiness makes it okay to layer over with a hard shell. Color "Rockwall" is the most amazing shade of gray that Patagonia has come up with. Bought one and then a second a week later; family members didn't want to share this essential item. Cost is high but expect to have this jacket for years and years.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Thin and Warm
April 24, 2012

This is a great light weight jacket with great build quality. My wife has the women version and she would not stop talking about it which prompted me to try the men. I live in England and the wind gust can be quite abrupt, but with this on I never have to worry. I'm 6.0", 190lbs and an L was the perfect fit.

Excellent jacket
March 28, 2012

Warm, weightless. I especially value the drawstring on the hood and at the waist. The elastic at the cuffs could be a bit stronger/tighter, but it is adequate. Easily used for either outer layer or layering. I am 5'8, 180; the large was too small to layer underneath, the xlarge looks way to big for me, but had to get it to allow for layering.I was able to purchase it through Altrec Outlet at a great price.

Very Warm and Light Weight
November 11, 2011

Just bought this jacket and had the opportunity to wear it the next day. If you own a patagonia jacket already, it fits similar to most of their jackets. I'm 5'10" about 175 and the medium fits perfectly. It is very warm and extremely light weight. The hood zips all the way to about nose level, so can form a good face mask.

Solid purchase
March 01, 2011

Solid purchase from Patagonia. I got this jacket for the long walk to and from work in the Northeast. The warmth factor is perfect, as it doesn't keep you too hot, nor does it let the biting wind get you too cold. Definitely warmer than a fleece, but not a replacement for a winter parka. The fit is bigger than normal (6'1" 190lbs : ordered a Large), which usually is the case for Patagonia products. One thing I love is the down hood, which keeps in heat when it's really cold; when it's not in use, the neck is very high, so it doesn't let wind sneak down the back of your neck. In the end, exactly what I was looking for out of a down sweater.

Its lite
September 28, 2010

I am always impressed with Patagonia products. They find niches in technical gear that I thought I didn't need. Well this product is warm, repellant and lite. Meaning I can pack this thing in my pack, and not take up too much room. Or take it on a snowshoe trip. Either way, it keeps me warm, and dry. Something I need doing those 2 things. Wouldn't mind some pit zips. But everything else is good.

Patagonia quality, but definitely a SWEATER
January 31, 2011

I bought my first Patagonia product over 20 years ago. I still have and still use some of them, so I am a believer in their quality of workmanship. I purchased a Men's Small Ama Dablam (Marmot product) in black. It fit GREAT, but after little over a week I noticed that a seam was opening up on the windguard behind the main zipper. Looked like the fabric for the seam did not overlap enough when it was sewn. I have several Marmot products, and this is the first one to show any kind of quality issue so I assume it is just a fluke. Altrec has great customer service, and they were very helpful in getting my RMA and return details ironed out. Still in need of a hooded warm jacket (but trying to avoid the Michelin Man look), I asked for advice on a replacement jacket since the Ama Dablam was no longer available in the size/color combination that I wanted. The Patagonia Down Sweater Full Zip Hoody was recommended. I have the Patagonia Nano Puff jacket, which fits me just fine. So I ordered the Down Hoody in the same size. The fit of the Down Sweater Hoody is noticeably slimmer than that of the Nano Puff Jacket in the waist and torso areas. I was disappointed because this made it impossible for me to add more layers underneath should I need it. Which brings me to my next point: this item is a DOWN SWEATER. While it shares the qualities of 800 down fill and having a hood, this item is nothing like the Ama Dablam (which is truly a JACKET in fill QUANTITY, fit, and weight). I won't knock it--this Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody is a great product. Windproof with high quality down fill and an impossibly light weight, it fits the bill of a mid-layer when it is frigid, and an outer layer when it is mild. If you are naturally warm, you may be able to use this jacket all winter in all conditions. Me, I'm always cold so the Down Hoody just isn't enough to carry me through the entire winter. I would definitely recommend it to those who already have a Michelin Man type down jacket but want something a little less cumbersome and more fitted. Additionally, I think that this jacket is very versatile in that you can utilize it in a larger range of temperatures than a down jacket designed for really cold temps.

Pleasantly surprised
December 05, 2011

I bought this jacket as a light alternative to a heavier down jacket. When it arrived, it fit way too big for me (I usually wear a size medium - 5'11", 170 lbs). I was swimming in it, like the guy above in the photo. I took it to Patagonia and they happily exchanged it for a small, even though I bought it through Altrec - great company. In any case, this jacket has been so warm for how light it is! I wear a sweater underneath and I'm set for walking around the city. It hasn't been super cold in NYC for me to test it out, but with the hood up, I'm set for temps around 32 degrees - I'm sure lower with an R2 jacket underneath. I can't recommend this enough!

Very comfy does well with layers
January 27, 2011

The first one we purchased was leaking feathers at a seam, returned it without issue, the new one is perfect. Easy to pack, very compact, warm, especially warm in 18 degree weather with a layer or two...looks very nice on, we even had compliments from strangers sitting at a dinner table...would recommend it...did well in snow...but would not call it waterproof, but definately water repelant....good buy and should last for years.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use

Lightweight and Low Profile
June 18, 2012

I am 6'2" and 160 lbs. and purchased the size Medium. I have a thin build with long arms and this jacket fits great. With long sleeves and a decent center back length my skin is never exposed to the cooler temps. It is very lightweight with the 800 fill down but provides an adequate amount of warmth. When the temperature begins to rise just compress it down into it's internal pocket and stow it away in your pack or commuter bag.

Warm and thicker than comparable mountain hardware
February 24, 2011

Runs large. If you want to use it inside a shell, order a size down. If you wish to wear it as a standalone parka, order your normal size. This version is thicker and warmer than the mountain hardware hoody -- not better, just different. Not waterproof and not intended to be. Reasonable wind resistance despite the design of the baffles.

My wife got me this jacket for valentines day and it is the best present ever. It can be packed into a back pack with ease because it is not bulky at all. It is very warm and it breaks the wind very well. I am so happy with this jacket because it is light weight but very warm. I know that it will last because Patagonia is very quality stuff. I would get my wife one but she has the Patagonia Parka and she really likes that jacket a lot.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Excellent Down Jacket
November 20, 2011

Bought this for my brother, he likes this Down Jacket very very much. It is really light, bearly feel on his body. It can keep warm for now, it's about 0-5 centidegree right now. Not sure it can keep warm under -5 centidegree. The only concerning is the jacket is a little bit short.

Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance

This jacket is very warm and lightweight. The dill color is well very green. I am 6' 180 lbs and medium fits me well. Patagonia is the best brand when it comes to jackets...hands down. I own the R2, R4, winter sun hoody and better sweater. I recommend them all!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

Men's Down Sweater Full-Zip Hoody
April 21, 2011

This is an excellent sweater/jacket. The fit is perfect, and the hoody keeps your head nice and warm. Unlike many down jackets, this one is light, not bulky and cumbersome. The Patagonia quality and craftsmanship are superb, and I expect it will last me a long time.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Careful, this just may be what your looking for...

The Sweater Jacket is definitely slick. The large is a little more roomy than I tall, slender individual may need. The hood also has a little more material then necessary. The down though is perfect. The whole thing packs down into a single pocket. Definitely cool.

Great jacket for surviving windy winter in Chicago!

This jacket has proven to be the perfect option for the frigid, blustery winter weather. Without being bulky, it blocks wind and keeps body warmth trapped inside. The tall collar and hood are perfect for covering up and staying toasty.

Power down!

Nice "jacket"...depending on how you want to wear it and what you wanta call it. I`m 6 1" and 200lbs and bought the large in black. I`m able to layer up, or not, and be comfortable. If you are thinking of using it as a "sweater" order a size down from your normal Patagonia size. I like the hood and the overall light weight feel of this item. Wish I would have bitten the bullet and gotten this "jacket" much sooner! Exceptional Patagonia down hoody...warm, lightweight and good looking!

This jacket is awesome!! It can be used as an under layer on wet days or an outer layer on bone chilling days. Packs down small and is light weight and doesn't take up room in your pack for technical gear.

great jacket

This is one of my go to jackets during the winter. It is great for cold dry conditions or when it is snowing. Works well as a layering piece too under a shell. Fit is a little generous but I did go with my normal size and it fits well.
