Excellent for cold winter dog wallking
April 01, 2013
Men's Fitz Roy Down Hoody Medium is light and very warm with the hood. The hood is adjustable, which keeps out cold wind and my head and ears warm. I was warm walking my bulldog for 30 minutes at 3 degrees fahrenheit temperature with a 20 mile per hour wind. It fits true to size. I am 5' 11" 180 Lbs. The jacket has ample pockets for gloves and a dog leash as well as sun glasses.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, adjustable hood for snug fit cold wind protectionAlready own the Patagonia Fitz Roy Down Hoody? Tell us your thoughts.

I bought this jacket last winter and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I travel all over the U.S. for work - I love the packability of this jacket - it fits into my carry on with plenty of room to spare. I frequently travel to New England, and this jacket keeps me warm on cold winter nights with nothing but a t-shirt underneath. The two way draw cord hem really helps to keep cold air out - this feature along with the longer length is what sold me on this jacket versus the lighter weight down sweater. The outer material on the jacket is incredibly soft - which is great for feel and weight, but not necessarily for durability. I already snagged the outer shell and had to have it repaired. This has been my only gripe with the jacket. Otherwise, this is a great jacket - warm, lightweight, and not too bulky. I would definitely recommend this product and have no regrets about my purchase. Altrec was great as well - product was delivered on time and in excellent condition.

A good down jacket

Very warm, with a hoody, it's also wind proof. Patagonia's clothes are excellent in design, and careful in details.

Warm and Light
November 22, 2010
This jacket is really nice, the 800 fill down is extremely warm. So far I have taken in out in-14 degrees Fahrenheit with just a t-shirt under and I don't notice the cold at all. Well, except for my face, legs and feet. The price is a little higher than the other competitors but for the quality and in the long run it is well worth it. Completely satisfied.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityGreat Jacket!

I'm 5'11", 185 lbs. The Large fits perfectly. The Fitz Roy is an extremely warm and comfortable down jacket. I especially like that the sleave cuffs have elastic around the wrist, instead of Patagonia's typical velcro wrists #I would get lint stuck in the velcro#.

This jacket is truly warm! and a little bulky. It is perfect for cold weather but not for when you are very active. It is also light so it is a nice throw on on those winter days when you are going outside.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of useEpic Gear

This is one of the best pieces I own. So good I got two. Great fit, incredibly light and warm - a pleasure to wear. You trade some durability for the light weight, but it's well worth it. You can barely feel it's there (except that you're nice and toasty). Get one - if you can find it!

If you want to wear an oven....

This jacket is nice and VERY warm. Maybe too warm for most activities. So, bottomline (in my opinion), this is an expedition/mountaineering layer or possible shell. I wish it was less bulky. I really hate to say negative things about this jacket or any Patagonia goods, because both the jacket and Patagonia products are awesome and dependable. In this case, I ended up returning the Fitz Roy and getting a Go-Lite. The main reason was because the Go-Lite was barely less warm, and also not as bulky and more comfortable under my hard shell.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: bulkyDid you recently buy the Patagonia Fitz Roy Down Hoody? Write a review.
great purchase for northern climates

I live in Alaska and was looking for an all purpose down coat--one that could be used on very cold days around town and that would take the chill off during backcountry skiing and other outings. This coat fits the bill. Very warm and comfortable. Like wearing a warm lightweight sleeping bag, but looks much nicer. I appreciate the fact that this jacket is not nearly as "puffy" as other down jackets but still is a real heater. The fit is excellent. I am 5 foot 10 inches, 190 lbs. and the medium is perfect. Not too big and not too tight. Coat arrived right as a cold spell moved in and I have been walking around very comfortably. The coat is so light that I hardly notice it. My only question at this point is how durable the shell will be. Time will tell. Also not sure how water resistant the shell will be--but I didn't buy the coat to wear in rain and I expect it will shed snow just fine. Haven't had it in a snowstorm yet. My one complaint is that the jacket doesn't come with a stuff sack. A coat of this caliber and price should include a stuff sack.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityWife's Envy

My wife, who's constantly cold, often steals my Patagonia Fitz Roy Down Hoody to stay warm rather than her $8K fur coat. I bought it 2 years ago and have been more than satisfied with my choice. There are no complaints associated with owning this jacket, given that you know how to treat a down jacket.
Great down jacket
January 07, 2010
I am on this jacket was purchased December 24, 2009. The unusually cold winter this jacket was able to identify correctly the real value. What is one more feather. Wearing T-shirts in the winter seem tolerable than the lighter. The smooth style and good fit. In addition, a very excellent insulation. As well as everyday life is to enjoy all winter sports activities seem to be very useful. If the opportunity would like to buy another one in another color.
What a great jacket!

BEST JACKET EVER
December 15, 2011
This jacket is super warm and very light. I needed a jacket that I could just throw on for cold winter days without having to layer up. I do a lot of photography so I don't move around much. Doesn't matter this thing keeps me super warm on below zero days just standing around. GET THIS JACKET!!!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great valueYOU might need this one absolutely

I've tried this product for 3 months. every time I wear this one in hostile weather condition, it keeps me warm absolutely and feels very light like not be wore. yet, there is a minor problem on this nice and warm parka. that is loosing feather from inside more and more. the problem makes me think even the reason for feeling light is becasuse loosing feather.
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Cons: Cost, Poor qualityDid you recently buy the Patagonia Fitz Roy Down Hoody? Write a review.
Nice High-Quality Down
November 30, 2009
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box and pulled out the jacket, was just how soft this jacket is. The outer material and the 800 fill down feels just like a sleeping bag only better. I have the Down Sweater Hoody as well, and this is just perfect for up here in Alaska, even in -35 I was cozy, with exception of my face. Although the collar rides up just high enough to give you good protection. The hem tighteners are nice, because usually Patagonia only has one which can mean a lot of excess string sticking out. Also the tighteners are a lot thicker than any other Patagonia jacket. I really like the hood tightening system, just pull the back tightener and it adjusts three ways. The fleece lined pockets are also nice. The length is SO much better than the Mountain Hardware Hooded Down Jacket, which is really short. All in all, the fit is really nice, just enough room for layering without looking to baggy, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants Patagonia build and a jacket that is extra cozy.
The Perfect Down Jacket
December 05, 2009
After hours of research, I elected to go with the Patagonia Men's Fitz Roy Down Hoody. What a great choice. Featuring 800 fill down, this coat will keep you extra warm while feeling very light on your body at the same time. The best of both worlds. The coat comes in at 20.9 oz's so you barely feel it on. There are so many things I love about this coat. The outer lining is super soft. The hood is fully insulated and fits nicely over your head. Also features a very cool tightening system that I've never seen before. Two hand warming front pockets are fleeced lined, along with two excellent additional pockets (one in front, the other chest level inside. When zipped to the top, the coat will cover your face up to the bottom of your nose, very nice. The Fitz Roy is windproof and water resistant, not waterproof. I spoke to a Patagonia rep before making my purchase and they explained that waterproof means it is going to stay dry in a wet snow or rain, water resistant means that you have about an hour in a wet snow/rain before it starts soaking through the jacket. Something to keep in mind if you are going to be in the rain/falling snow for a long period of time. Coat extends longer in the back by a few inches vs. the front. A very very nice feature as it covers my backside (unlike the majority of other down jackets available that are not parkas). A "Medium" fits me perfectly (I'm 5'11", 175 lbs, athletic build). Leaves me the perfect amount of room for a sweater. Lastly, this coat is not available at Patagonia, but rather only at authorized resellers, like Altrec. Patagonia makes amazing gear that lasts forever. Consider this coat a very worthy investment.

great jacket, worth every penny!

I bought this for my husband who lives in NYC. We are not used to the cold and he says he loves the jacket--it is very warm and very lightweight. He was amazed by how lightweight it is and yet so warm. I will go with Patagonia again in the future.
Finally! the best of both worlds

My biggest complaint about puffys is that you generally need to have two. A light down sweater for cold summer nights (I have a Marmot Zeus) and a heavy duty hoody for winter/shoulder season (I had a Edde Bauer First Ascet Peak IV). This jacket fits my needs perfectly. Not to big, but not too small, Just Right! Light weight with just enough Puff and still very warm. I was initially leaning toward Marmot's Ama Dablam, but I wanted baffled contruction to ensure no cold spots. Also, Marmot is generally my first choice because their jackets fits me so well due to arm length. I can now add Patagonia to my short list of outdoor clothing.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, great fit, Cons: wish for zip stuff pocket like marmot puffyThis jacket is awesome!

The fit is great... not too long but not too short. It is extremely light-weight so I'm not expecting it to be exceptionally durable. I love the fact that there is nothing velcro on this jacket. Not a lot of extra bells and whistles but just warm and well made with a great fit. Highly recommended!
