My new favorite pants
June 18, 2012
I had to replace some older TNF and Exoficcio pants so I decide to try these. I love them. I thought I would miss the inner mesh from my Exo pants and I was concerned that this model didn't have it but they are still comfy. Just did the Grand Canyon down the seldom hiked Hermit Tail to the river and these pants were great! The built in belt is great too.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, belta good summer hiking pants
September 29, 2012
The pants is very light and thin. Thus it's only good for summer, early fall, and late spring season. For a 30"-31" waist, size M is perfect. However if your waist size is larger, you will need a larger size. The adjustable built in waist belt is very flimsy. I'm not sure if it's 100% effective, but luckily I don't need to use the belt. The back pocket and the thigh pocket have zipper, but they are small. In fact all the pockets are small. It's OK for a hiking pants, but if you need a pant with deep pockets for foreign travel, you will not like this pants for the two front pockets do not have zipper, are very small and shallow. I suspect that things will be accidentally drop out when sitting down, although it has not yet happened so far because I avoided using them. The pant fabric is very thin. I have a grey dark color pants and it provides better privacy protection. I think the khaki color pants can be easily see through when it's wet.
Pros: Ease of use, Cons: small shallow pockets., flimsy waist beltDid you recently buy the Patagonia Gi III Pants? Write a review.
Update of GI pants
April 02, 2012
This is an update of the GI II pants which I have worn hiking for several years. The GI pants are great in terms of ventilation and mobility. I remain cool in these even when hiking on hot days and they do not show normal abrasions. The GI III has a new fabric which is softer and drapes well. The downside to the new model is that the pockets are smaller and the front pockets place the contents more on the front of the pant than at the side.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of usechange is... different
May 07, 2012
As a big fan of the Gi II in its various forms, I was curious about these. Overall the waist and length have the same proper fit as described but the legs are cut more slimly now. They are not at all baggy in the waist or seat which is neiher good nor bad, just different. They are not so slim as to restrict movement, just slimmer. Also it feels like the material is thinner and may be more readily torn than the predecessor. All other details seem unchanged.

Great pants

Patagonia is all about quality. Great pair of pants for hiking. It is nice that Altrec has the hard to find sizes. Altrec also helped me out with my return. Excellent company to purchase hiking equipment from. I am sure to purcase again. I am eyeing the Gi III shorts in that awesome Alpha Green color.
