really a nice piece of gear. it breaths super well and feels great against the skin. this would be great protection from the sun on high altitude snow. i wish i had this when i spent a week on Rainier. the INSIDE of my ears were burnt. i'll have this for the next trip! dw

This pullover is the ticket to protection from the sun, even on hot days. The breathable fabric keeps you protected from the sun, yet cool. Previously, I found myself wearing heavier long sleeve tee shirts and flipping collars up in an attempt to protect my arms and neck from over exposure on long days outdoors. The hood works great, and, is light weight, yet sturdy. The pockets connect like regular hoodies, yet are not designed to carry much else things will slip out I highly recommend; you won't regret this purchase!
Best sun shirt available

This shirt is a must have if you plan to spend any time in the sun. It breathes and dries extremely well. The hood is essential on those hot Texas days when it feels like your brain is gonna bake in your skull.
Grows on you

Hello When first purchased I was unsure of uses. Don't think of it as insulation. Sun protective, light , baselayer that dries very fast. This hoody has become my goto warm weather piece. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, beach :) Buy it.
Perfect for sunny weather

Received my new sun hoody and wore it this weekend. The fabric is very lightweight and comfortable. The fit is generous with the sleeves being a bit long but the cuffs are easily turned up.
i like it
July 09, 2011
i'll try it out on the mountain tomorrow but it seemed pretty good wearing it for a bit this afternoon. fit is good, maybe a bit looser than i thought it would be for a patagonia regular fit. looks nice.

Nice lightweight Hoodie. Not bulky, very good feel. Fit is roomy. Good sun protection I like it. Silky smooth, not for warmth cool color. Would be great for beach as sun setting.
Great lightweight hoody
August 11, 2011
I've owned the hoody for over a month and have worn it as a replacement for the thicker cotton hoodies I normally wear. It's got a great kangaroo pocket that can store whatever you'd like to put in it - it also has relatively good wind protection - even though it's thin. It fits a little on the large size, so don't get something bigger than you think you need.
i like it

Nice and light, not as breathable as I had hoped but pretty good. I was fine wearing it in the shade on an 80F day. Fit is fine although the sleeves are a little long (and without thumb loops).
Lightweight Sun Hoody
April 27, 2011
Comfortable, typical high end Patagonia quality. Could use monkey cuffs and maybe a deeper blue color, but overall i like it! Definitely something that you can wear in warmer weather.
Lightweight and comfortable
April 12, 2011
Bought this a few weeks ago and have worn it almost everyday. It is a great hoody to throw on after work or wear around town. Super lightweight and comfortable. Not the warmest layer but works well for a mild day and well with sun. Thumb holes would be a nice addition as with the other similar Patagonia hoody, maybe next year. All-in-all,I would certainly buy this again.
excellent hoodie; light and casual

love it. just bought another; perfect for the beach !

This is my husbands favorite summer clothing item. He wears it doing yard work, running, & biking. It keeps him cool & protected. He usually orders med in Patagonia & the med in the hoody fits great. He has 2.
Comfy but big
July 12, 2012
I really like it; I would buy it again. But, I would buy it one size smaller. I am 6'0" and 158 lbs. I ordinarily wear a Medium for nearly all types of shirts. I ordered a medium for this, but because of the cut, it fits a little big. I would recommend that you buy one size down.Pros: comfortable, lightweight, Cons: fit--a little roomy, no thumbholes
Another great patagonia product
March 23, 2011
I have another Patagonia hoody in a fleece and purchased the new hoody which has 30 UPF which is important as I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico where there is intense sun. Looks great. Fog gray is a really attractive color. It fits true to size and I am a mens small. Wore it on a long hike on a warm day and it is a very light fabric and a perfect cover up for a spring/summer garment. I have many Patagonia products and they have yet to disappoint me.

I've worn my hoody several times to the beach since receiving it and think it's great. It's comfortable with or without a shirt underneath. It was perfect for a stand up paddle. Quick drying and comfy. I'm 5'11" and 200 lbs so I ordered a size up (XL) because I wanted it to be a looser fit. Very happy with my selection!
Another Great Patagonia product

Had my eye on the Patagonia Lightweight Sun Hoody for some time and finally pulled the trigger. Sorry I waited so long. I spend alot of beach time in Cape May, NJ with my family. The Sun Hoody is in my pack every trip to the beach. Great sun protection with out being too hot. The air flows this through this hoody to keep you cool and at the same time protected from the sun. The pocket on the front is an added feature. I liked it so much that I bought one for my two kids. Patagonia's quality and commitment to the environment is unmatched.
Prepared for Spring

I've just received my hoody today. Very good quality, very light, and very cool. I'm waiting for a better weather [Note: I live in South America, it's Fall now :-) ]
March 13, 2011
This is my second sun hoody. The first edition had thumbholes and a small zippered pocket, but no kangaroo pouch. I miss the thumbholes, but prefer the pouch over the zippered pocket. This garment runs a little large as did the first edition, so I ordered down (6'2" 180lbs and the M fits me well). This garment vents well, sheds light mist and dries rather quickly. I use both for running and casual wear. The hood is functional; you will use it more frequently than you realize.

Patagonia's Lightweight Sun Hoody is aptly named. It is the ideal 3-season piece of clothing for an outing at the beach when the sun goes down or in higher mountain elevations. I recently spent a few days at the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado and found the Lightweight Sun Hoody a nice car camping item. In the cooler mountain mornings and evening, it layered well. It is truly lightweight and the hood is probably its best feature. When climbing the dunes on a windy early morning, it was a welcome relief to pull the hood over my head.Pros: ideal 3-season layer
Light Weight Sun Hoodie
July 19, 2011
At 6'4", 190 lbs. a large gave me a good regular fit. Sleeve length is good. Does not have thumb holes, but that is okay with me. Silky, 100% polyester. Feels great against your skin without a shirt. Breath ability is good, and I like the kangaroo pocket with the key keeper loop. Helps protect your skin from the sun.
terrific sun protection
August 05, 2012
I burn easy, fear skin cancer, and select clothing accordingly -- this shirt offers terrific sun protection (I often use the hood and kangaroo pocket to protect my head/hands). I am 6", 160lbs, and the medium size fits well -- comfortably loose. Pros: -- terrific sun protection -- keeps cool in hot weather -- comfortable -- kangaroo pocket Cons: -- material retains body odor to an above-average degree -- weight and bulk are less than ideal for packing/traveling purposes, but not terrible -- material can absorb a lot of water, so not great if you happen to get soaked...although a vigorous sweat will dry quick enough, no problem. recommended!
While a hoody in summer might seem silly
July 07, 2011
While a hoody in summer might seem silly- this is a great shirt. Very cool and comfortable- nicely cut for a "full-figured" male like myself. Have I worn the hood yet? Early in the day I did, but wore a sun hat when it got much warmer.
July 10, 2011
I bought this for my husband. He's worn it kayaking, boating, and for SUP. He commented that it was surprisingly light and airy on a hot, sunny day. Great protection from the sun and dries very quickly.
