Versatile and comfortable
February 26, 2012

I am a fan of Merino Wool products and so am delighted to have come across this sweater. A huge plus for me is the sizing. I'm 6', 185 lbs with 35 in sleeve length - officially a Medium Tall, but this is not available in 'Tall' sizing. However, if you check the pictures, the sleeve on the model goes well beyond the wrist #which is a fashional way to wear things these days#. Since models have 'standard' body parts including sleeve length, I figured, that on me, the sleeve would just cover my wrist - true enough! I bought the Medium and it fits fine. For those of you with short arms, you could very attractively roll up the cuff. I've been using it now in a very cold, windy February in Colorado. Typically I wear it inside over a tee shirt or long sleeve cotton tee. When going outside, I just put a wind breaker over the top. Beats the winter cold, both inside and out! Because it is Merino wool, it is very smooth and never itchy. I have some fleece tops I could wear, but the wool is much more comfortable and looks a lot better. Actually most of my existing fleece gear is pull over - being a cardigan, this sweater is much easier to put on an off - hence gets used more. I bought the Narwhal grey and wear it with a black wool 'drivers' cap - received complements for the combination. I plan to use it for travel to Alaska this year and Italy next which brings me to reviewing an excellent and unexpected feature - the pockets. They are large and have zippered, very secure access. The pocket is much deeper than the entrance slot, so things like wallets, credit cards, passports have no tendency to fall out, even if not zippered. #However, I'd have to say that, being lightweight wool, anything heavy really distorts the shape of the sweater#. And, there is an extra bonus that I expect to use for airline tickets and passports ..... The pockets are formed with double sided wool material. Inside, the space between the sewn in pocket and the sweater itself form a 'sort of second pocket'. Its hard to describe - its not actually an inside pocket because there is a 2 inch 'gap'/hole on the back side - coins etc would fall out. But it is an inside 'cavity' that very conveniently and securely holds large flat objects like travel documents. Thanks for taking the time to read all my thoughts on this excellent and well priced product. I spent a long time looking and am very satisfied with this new acquisition.

Pros: versatile, fits 'tall' size

Super fit and quality...
January 01, 2012

I love to wear layers in the morning on my way to my office. This is ideal to wear on cold days under another jacket. The mens XL fit is super for me; I am 6'1" and 220. I normally wear an XL tall, but this work great for me over a dress shirt. This sweater is a nice medium weight, and the wool seems of very high quality. Very classic styling and versatile with dress pants as well as jeans. And the zippered pockets are functional. I am considering getting another one in a different color !

Pros: fit, quality, style

Love Patagonia!
April 12, 2011

While this sweater is thinner than I imagined it would be, it is extremely soft and comfortable. My wife calls it my Mr. Rogers sweater. I'm new to Merino wool, but so far Patagonia seems to be the most comfortable. I recently purchased a Dale of Norway base layer that was on sale, but I am returning it because it started scratching me after wearing it for only a minute.

Pros: super soft & comfortable.
Cons: thin.

You Get What You Pay For
February 15, 2011

I've been buying Patagonia products since the mid-80's when my employer sold them. I've always found them to be excellent quality at a higher price point than many people are willing to pay. I've wanted a Patagonia merino wool sweater for several years and finally bought this one as a gift to myself. It's one of the nicest sweaters I own and I mostly buy cashmere these days. The wool is soft with a nice feel to it but not so soft you feel scared to wear it. I've worn it on hikes, to work and out for nice dinners with my wife. It's seen more than a few trips to my local pub too where I fit in well with the hipsters on fixed gear bikes. It looks great and fits well. I'm 5' 11", 220 lbs. with a long torso and normal length arms. The sleeves are just right for me and the torso is not so clingy that is accentuates my middle age spread. Other zip up cardigans I've tried lately have been way too tight but were probably cut more for mannequins than normal humans.

Office Comfort
November 10, 2010

I got this for wearing to work. Things I noticed about the item are the sleeves are a little long on me, and I have long arms. Like most sweaters, the cuffs start to stretch a little and widen as the day goes on. SInce the sleeve are long, the stretched cuffs start to fall onto my hands. This is not the biggest deal, but is just something i noticed about this year's line of Patagonia sweaters. Someone in the office told me to flip the cuffs back, which worked, but then you have to walk around all day with your cuffs flipped over (not my style). I'm not sure if this was the intended way for it to be worn. The sweater is thin, yet soft and seems durable. I have only worn it once, so whether it will withstand the test of time is still up in the air. Regardles, with Patagonia's ironclad gurantee and Altrec's new lifetime gurantee there should be no worries.

Pros: Ease of use, soft, warm, lightweight
Cons: long sleeves
Comfort: 4 / 5
Durability: 4 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5

It is a commodity that may be warm.
October 28, 2010

It is a commodity that may be warm. It was immediately actually felt that it was a good commodity because it put it on. Warmly, and touch is good, and comfortable. It is indeed a product of Patagonia. Because the correspondence of the shop is also good, it always buys it here.

Pros: Great design, Great value
