Shell pants for backcountry skiing
December 27, 2013

I bought these for the hubby for backcountry ski touring, so venting and weather-proofing were top priorities. They run a little large in the waist and his main complaint is that the fabric lining the waistband is slippery so he gets a combination of the pants sliding down and his shirt working its way out of the pants. I will end up having to take them to a tailor to either have them put some elastic in the back or line the waistband with a sticky fabric that grips a bit. Otherwise the pants are of the usual Patagonia quality in workmanship. They are just a shell, so all warmth has to come from whatever you layer beneath it. Which was just what we wanted. I'm not sure they were worth the price tag being a minimalist design. You're really just paying for the name.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, ventability, waterproof, Cons: Cost
