Highly breathable and comfortable

These shorts are great. The only thing I would change is the number of pockets, which I don't really use.
Best Shorts bought in a while

Bought these shorts as a longer running short vs normal shorter running shorts. Planned on using these at the gym and when I had somewhere to go after running on the trails. Worn them all over town now with great pockets for stashing keys, gels, wallet or phone. Good longer short but not restrictive and dry super fast!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceVery comfortable

Always on the lookout for new running shorts I decided to give these a try. The material is super light and feels great on the skin. There are also 4 pockets which are helpful for longer runs when you want a few gels to go along. The only negative I have applies to any synthetic: after 2 or 3 runs, the material starts to get an odor but it does wash out without difficulty.

Well worth the price

Two things really stand out on these shorts: wide waistband and pockets. The wide waistband makes them significantly more comfortable and keeps them up without tying the drawcord with an iPhone in the pocket. There are three pockets, two shallow side pockets and one zipped back pocket. Most exercise shorts only have a key pocket and rarely is a zippered pocket available. I keep my house key, ID and insurance card in the back zipped pocket when I run. I've used these shorts for running and yoga and they're ideal for both. I can't speak to the durability as I've had them less than 6 weeks but if other Patagonia products are any indication, I'll have these shorts for at least a decade.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value, fabric quality, Cons: side pockets a bit too shallowBest running shorts out there!

Patagonia hit a home run with these shorts! The fabric is soft and stretchy and feels great against your skin. The length is just right in my opinion. I don't like running shorts that hit at the knee or lower. If you sweat when you run (and who doesn't?) long shorts will collect moisture at your knees and make for uncomfortable abrasion. These shorts hit above the knee eliminating any such problem. The liner brief is soft and comfy and extends up through the waistband for additional comfort. These shorts have a crotch gusset which adds another degree of comfort that I never knew I needed or wanted. As some other reviewers have mentioned the pockets are shallow. This doesn't bother me because how much do you really plan to carry when you are running? Or if I am just going for a walk to the coffee shop the pockets accommodate my debit card, ID and a $20 bill just fine. If you want to be able to carry a smartphone, wallet and keys then use a backpack or pick another pair of shorts. These are running shorts and they perform that task with excellence. I know Patagonia says to just buy what you need but I had to order a second pair of these shorts because they are that good.

Another great Patagonia short

Patagonia has definitely nailed the design on shorts for endurance runners, where inseam length, fabric, and details like pocket placement/function/size are very important. While I prefer the ripstop fabric of the Ultra shorts over the stretchier fabric of the Nine trails, the Nine trails is still a great product--long inseam, smooth fabric, zippered pockets and elastic waist w/draw cord. I am a female ultrarunner who prefers Patagonia's men's shorts over their women's products (inseam too short, lack features that I like). I have consistently worn a men's M in the Ultra and the Nine trails over the last several years--the fit is very similar. It really just comes down to fabric preference between the two models.
Nice shorts

These are great running/trail running shorts. Fit is not too short, not too long and the waists sizes run true to the sizing chart. The liner is breathable and they dry quickly. Overall good stuff.
Pros: Performanceexcellent shorts

yes. super comfortable feel, zippers are great, soft, etc. : all the Patagonia qualities. however, i very reluctantly had to returned them for one and only one reason only: length--i'm of average height and the size M entirely covered my knees. (i'm used to running shorts that are quite a bit shorter)--they feel better when running. five stars for all its merits, and one star for length.
Huge Size Gap
March 19, 2012
First of all I love Patagonia products. But here lately, there seems to be a huge gap in size difference between size Medium products and size Large products that Ive purchased. I found this to be true with these Trail shorts. I am a size 33 in the waist and the size M fits too snug. Tried a size L at an outdoor store over the weekend and they swallowed me whole. I think a 3 inch waist coverage is too much for one size (note waist sizing for Patagonia shorts). Patagonia products are too good to have such large a gap in size differences.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Cons: not well sizedWrite a review for the Patagonia Nine Trails Shorts here.
