AWESOME! "Ultra" warm. AWESOME! Waterproof. SIMPLY AWESOME!! This is a really great ski jacket, folks! It has a regular fit, therefore it`s not binding. If ya wear too much under it, you will sweat on the slopes. Perfect jacket for all of your winter`s weather adventures! Remember; "you get what you pay for"! Ski happy! Let it snow, let it snow...Pros: Performance
M's Primo Down Fall 2011
December 20, 2011
Purchased this jacket after coming from being an avid North Face fan. I could not be happier. I truly believe that Patagonia's quality and workmanship is SUPERIOR. This jacket is LIGHT WEIGHT yet WARM, WARM, WARM! We live in the Northeast and get Lake Effect wind and snow. This jacket stops both. The exterior is super strong and can take a ton of abuse. The down is light-weight, but 800+ quality! If you are thinking about spending the money, don't hesitate. It is worth every penny! Buy once. Cry once. Buy right. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. This jacket will certainly last years to come! I previously owned a 2010 model and didn't like the shorter sleeves. I am 6'2" and 185lbs. I have a 43inch chest and prefer sleeves 37 inches long. I HATE when my sleeves are too SHORT . Patagonia listened to is customers and the 2011 model has 1.5inches of extra length in the sleeves (the model I purchased). I LOVE IT!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, superior craftsmanship

Got this jacket about a month ago and it is rock solid. A little on the pricey side but you pay for what you get. I wont go near anything that isn't Gore-Tex if I need waterproofing. As a snowboarder, waterproofing is crucial - especially since you sit in the snow a fair amount. This jacket has a relaxed cut so it looks pretty stylish too. Overall I'm very happy with the jacket. I wear thermals underneath and maybe a fleece for the cold days. Thankfully its not too puffy so its easy enough to move around in. As for sizing: I'm 6ft, ~200lbs and the large fit me perfectly.
Great all rounder

The primo down jacket is a great all around ski jacket. It's waterproof, warm and looks good. There isn't anything else quite like it. Arcteryx has some waterproof insulated ski jackets but Arcteryx refuses to use down - due to contrariness or maybe because they're located on the "wet coast".Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: fits a bit small
Excellent jacket for non-active people
January 13, 2013
I live in eastern Canada where temperatures are highly variables in Winter - The temperature spectrum ranges between +5 to -30 celcius. I have purchased this jacket to practice outdoor activities when the temperatures are below -10 degrees... So far, I have used it mostly for alpine skiing and I am seriously disappointed about the product. The jacket has an impeccable contruction and seems to be a very durable product. However, despite all the reports about excellent breathability, I have experienced the inverse. Only after 15 to 20 minutes of constant movement, the jacket become completely soaked inside. The down insulation become wet very rapidly and looses it insulation properties very fast. However, when I use this jacket while waiting for the bus or during non-intense activity, the Primo Down can be pretty efficient. Just a few words on size - the jacket size fits VERY LARGE. I am 6-foot 230 pounds and the XL is TOO large for me. I usually fit in a XXL in Arcteryx and believe the L would have been perfect for me. In summary, this jacket is excellent for non-intense activities - but for activities where you move a lot, it looses its insulation properties very fast.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost, Low performance, bad breathatibily

Neither Here Nor There
December 30, 2010
This is probably a great jacket if you need ONE jacket for all your cold weather scenarios. Beautifully built, and well designed - just not all that flexible, and ultimately not THAT warm. Fit was so-so. I'd opt for a technical hard shell and layer-up underneath as needed, depending on the conditions. Again, a really nice piece of gear, just not that much range for something that's such a big investment - presuming you paid retail.
Great down jacket - very comfortable and light
March 13, 2011
Wore it in Boston with a single fleece liner, excellent performance in cold, snowy and windy days. Worth the premium, need only one jacket. One complain the pockets don't have warming liner.Pros: Great design, Build quality

Purchased this for my son late last winter. He is an avid skier and young man about town. He loves the jacket...finds it warm, waterproof and very good looking. Perfect for day to day wear in cold weather and of course for skiing Patagonia makes great products and this is another example.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Does it all

I am very pleased with my recently purchased patagonia primo down jacket. It appears to be of excellent construction, warm and waterproof. Fits true to size I ordered large and am 6' 1". Recommend for cold temps.

This is clearly a high quality jacket. I have worn it skiing in the East twice, once on a 15 degree day, once on a 30 degree day. No problems. I am 6'1", size 42 jacket, 175 lbs. I bought a medium and it is plenty big. Arms easily long enough, almost too long. A couple of notes: (1) There is no designed hook for lift tickets. It's easy enough to improvise with the zippers, but if you have a season pass you want to leave on (like me), you might miss this feature. (2) this might be obvious, but the hood does not detatch. fits nicely over helmet, and not bothersome when left down. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase, and expect the jacket to be durable.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Cost
my best jackets
February 26, 2012
This is best coat I have ever found. I was looking for a jackets. But It is not heavy than expected or warm than expected. At such time I found patagoia Primo Down Jacket it's not so heavy, but very warm.Sometimes feel the skirt is somewhat too large. Since it can adjust, it is not a degree about which it cares. I recommend this one for my friend strongly.Pros: Great value, Cons: Cost

warm i mean HOT, waterproof and bombproof.
Patagonia Primo Down
December 11, 2011
I bought this coat last January for skiing. I mainly ski in VT and this coat was bomber. I skied most days with only a light thermal layer underneath and I was very comfortable. When the temperatures dipped down into the single digits I would put on two layers underneath and the coat was great. The coat was totally inpenetrable against snow and wind. I only had one problem with the cost...the hood would not fit over my Smith Variant helmet. In the off-season I contacted Patagonia about the issue and they sent me a brand new coat. This year's model has a few redesigns, including a hood that fits over a ski helmet. In addition, this year's coat has a much better collar design. The collar is quite roomy an you can tuck your face into the collar on the chairlift. I am not sure if the Goretex is a postive or negative....I will find out through the winter.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Close to Perfect
December 30, 2013
I was looking for an insulated ski jacket for colder days (i.e., under 20 deg F). Since I don't wear a helmet I was looking for a jacket that didn't have a massive hood either. This hood cinches down pretty tight w/o a hood. I have not worn the jacket in temps under 25 deg yet, but it's been very warm at that temperature with only a Cap 3 layer underneath. I was very pleased with the fit overall. I am 5 ft 7 in, 150 lbs and a small was perfect, allowing a bit of room for layering without being huge. I was hesitant to order a small, but the Patagonia online staff confirmed that it was the correct size, they were spot on. I would suggest three slight improvements to make this jacket even better - One, line the inside of the handwarmer pockets with a thin layer of fleece, since they have nothing now. I'll mostly wear gloves with this coat so that's not a big deal, but it would be nice to have pockets that could provide warmth as the unlined ones do not. Second, the cords to cinch the hood down on the left and right are not usable while wearing gloves. Also, they don't function that easily when the jacket is worn. I had better success cinching the hood before putting the jacket on. Last, a short velco tab that would allow the hood to roll up and keep snow out would be great for the times when the hood isnt' worn. Still a great coat though and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Bought this jacket for my 18 year old son. He wears it as an everyday jacket. Says it is the most warm jacket he has ever owned, yet the most lightweight. Overall really cool looking too. Plan to get one for myself based on his recommendation

Well sewed jacket. For frosts in Russia it's insufficiently warm.
Patagonia Primo Down Jacket
January 15, 2011
This is the best jacket I have ever owned. It provides the insulation and warmth you need for going to work on cold, windy mornings when your body is not generating much warmth. It is also the only jacket I have ever found that has pit-zips THROUGH a down layer. Those zips keep you from getting overheated. Forget "breathability" VENTING will really keep you comfy. This very same jacket is also perfect for keeping you comfortable as you start to move around and generate your own warmth. If you have to lug stuff between buildings and aren't in the greatest shape you could wet your work "dress clothes" with sweat in a thick down coat, ...but not with the Primo Down Jacket. The pit zips keep me totally comfy warm and dry whether its a cold morning or I'm exerting myself. Usually it would take 2 coats to serve both purposes. This coat is an H2NO shell with a down sweater sewn to it, but the sweater floats from the shell but is kept captive at the edges with a breathable mesh. This helps with breathability too. The hood is also lined with down and taffeta which warms quickly on your skin and provides excellent protection from wind and cold. This coat exceeds all my needs and is highly recommended. I only rated it warm, because I never get overheated in it. It keeps me at the perfect temperature over a wide range of circumstances. It's expensive, but performs extremely well. Just try to find a zipper through a layer of down feathers.
Heart of winter

Have worn my Primo jacket twice. Took an evening walk, 29F with no wind, perfectly comfortable. Today after errands took a 30 minute 2PM walk in -3F temp with a -20 windchill. Expedition weight capilene under jeans kept my legs warm. Upper base layer was cap4 shirt under marmot windstopper vest. The pant skirt sealed the waist well and the tall collar/permanent hood sealed the neck from any wind entry. Would have preferred an R4 jacket instead of the vest as an underlayer, especially for extended cold weather use or inactive periods. The jacket is incredibly light weight and has no bulk making ease of movement simple. Only problem is due to zipper memory where folded in packaging at the neck base. Difficult to pass that spot going up or down, may ease with use.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, light weight low bulk, Cons: poor zipper performance
The Real Deal
December 15, 2010
I purchased this item to reduce the 'Layering'. When I'm in -10d to +20d temps for days, I rarely have the need or patience to adjust clothing. I'm 5'9" & 160lbs. The medium is perfect. I can fit a light fleece or down sweater underneath for colder temps. I take mild-paced long hikes (not vigorous activities) so I count on the gear to maintain the little warmth I generate & I spare no expense on the gear to enjoy it. The coat is impeccable quality. Arc'terx / Mtn. Hardware equal. The down is the thickness of a their separate sweater. The shell should be used for the military, it's that industrial. The SS Minnow wouldn't have sunk if this lined the hull. It's very easy to move in and pockets placed comfortably. It sufficiently replaced a much bulkier down coat and XCR shell. It solves the freedom of movement issue that besets the folks following the 'layering' bandwagon. I am amazed at how imperceptible the seams are. Black typically shows the most wear but not on this coat. The Velcro at the wrist closures will likely be the only thing to possibly fail over time on this jacket. The comfort level will make you forget the price. Huge value in letting you focus on enjoying whatever activity you pursue.

I love this jacket. The green color inside is good with brown. Though the sleeves are longer than I expected, the other things are great!!! I absolutely recommend this item.Pros: Great value
This Jacket is Worth Every Dollar!
January 27, 2013
I had been searching for a warm winter jacket that was great for not only walking in New York City, but was perfect for the snow, skiing, etc. The jacket is amazingly warm and light-weight. It looks great, feels very technical, and should provide years of worry-free use. I especially like the wind-proof and insulated hood. It really makes a difference when you're shielding yourself from the wind or drifting snow. It doesn't dis-attach, but when not in use it lays flat and doesn't get in the way. I am 5' 11'' and 170lbs and the medium fits perfectly. I'm usually a large in North Face, etc. Altrec provided great service and quick delivery, which made the purchase even better!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

I am 5'10", 155 lb. I ordered a medium and it fits perfect. It is very comfortable and warm. I am 100% positive this jacket would hold up for any winter sport activity.

I ordered my Primo and was convinced when it arrived that box probably contained the wrong coat, it was so light . When i opened it, I was elated to see it was the correct coat, it's just incredibly lightweight . Gore-Tex exterior, down filled, great hood, and plenty of pockets. I can't wait for it to get colder here in Chicago, because I know this year I will be ready for any weather. I love the coat.Pros: Build quality
Great Jacket, fits a little large
October 15, 2012
I purchased this jacket for my upcoming trip to Breckenridge this winter. I bought a XL thinking it would be a perfect fit and when it arrived I could literally fit another person in it with me. Other than the super sized sizing, the jacket was exactly what I expected. Lightweight, durable, great quality. I would definitely recommend the jacket to whoever is looking for a solid ski jacket.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost
Finally found jacket to replace favorite
January 28, 2013
Bought this for my husband on this Altrec site. First of all customer service was very wonderful in assuring me that if it did not fit, returns would be easy. We tried many top brands for the last 2 years and none were as comfortable or had as many pockets as his old jacket. When he finally opened the package which was waiting for us in Colorado for quite some time, he was delighted and very happy. The temperature there was extremely cold, 7 degrees F in the morning and with smart layering (a smartwool layer first) he was very comfortable. My husband finally parted with his 20 year old favorite ski jacket. Looks like this will be his new favorite and last just as long. A big selling point was Altrec's return policy since we purchased it at end of last ski season and did not use it until this January.Pros: Great design, Performance
