Lighten up. Patagonia refined the fabric in their multipurpose R2® Jacket so it's lighter, easier to compress and far more breathable than previous versions. An extra infusion of Spandex in the stretch panels along the sleeves and sides give the new R2® Jacket better range of motion than other jackets with similar fabric. The new look and feel is so apparent that some might mistake the R2® for a layering piece, but it's everything you need for trail running, fastpacking and snowshoeing in cool dry conditions. A directional knit construction in the fabric speeds the perspiration drying time while accelerating the moisture transfer away from your skin, so you're less likely to chill on top of the hill than if you were stuck in some ordinary fleece piece. Other smart enhancements include reverse coil zippers with wide nylon strips that won't snag like other jackets. The zipper is slightly angled at the collar so you won't have to take it on the chin while zipped-up in chilly weather. Stretchy R1® panels along the sleeves and sides give you better contouring without excessive fabric that bunches and binds.
