Patagonia Men's R.5 Top
Stretchy enough for extended cool weather workouts. Plush enough for inner layer insulation during Nordic skiing outings. Patagonia's R.5™ Top delivers outstanding next-to skin performance in a variety of weather conditions. This is a popular piece for climbers, trail runners, backpackers and anybody else who demands thermal comfort that won't stifle mobility. The fabric has a special grid pattern that helps retain warmth while wicking moisture and enhancing breathability. Patagonia recently revised this garment, changing the zip-front to an offset design that won't scratch your chin or neck. The turtleneck collar is also slightly higher for better coverage. This is a great do-it-all piece that works well in every season.

Patagonia has done it again. Running in cooler, damp temps has never been more comfortable. You'll stay dry, be warm (but not overheat) and be using this R.5 top 10 years from now. Don't like it? Altrec leads all in excellent customer service and hassle free returns...a great option you'll never have to use.

This is not a purchase to ponder....easily the best insulating top on the market. These shirts are the most versatile in my pata collection. Layering possibilities are endless. I wear it downhill skiing, x-country skiing, hiking, mtn biking, during my ww kayak trips. Very warm and light, non pilling material that slides easily into whatever overlayer you choose. A true "no brainer".

Looks great, fits great, feels soft & cozy, and performs to the max! I was looking for something thinner than my reliable Patagonia R1 (I have two much-used R1s, love them, time to get another one soon) to wear during the not-so-cold Fall/early-winter/spring shoulder-weathers, and the R.5 fit the bill perfectly.
Also, Altrec is a great source - reasonable prices, quick delivery and they're always offerinr great deals.

A lighter version of the R1 Flash Pullover, Patagonia's tops whether hard shells, soft shells or a combination of are superbly functional as well as comfortable.
As of last year, I have gone cold turkey on traditional clothing. In fact I don't even own a pair of Levi jeans anymore.
All my clothing is now synthetic clothing. Both for it's function in outdoor activities and it's sharp looks and comfort walking around the streets. Traditional clothing is just too one-sided.
And the R.5 Pullover, is just another part of my "new" closet.

After searching for the "perfect" baselayer for xc skiing, I have found that the R.5 and other Patagonia midweight tops are the best -- lightweight, highly breathable, and super wicking.

Buy this do it all top if you want to do it all. Start off a cold morning as a feel great on your skin base, and hike or bike on as the day heats up. The long tail and comfy new offset neck are well designed. I wear this top around the house and trail. Spend the couple bucks more and get quality Patagonia contruction vs a lesser brand.

I always find the battle is finding a base layer that breaths well enough to get all the moisture out under high exertion. In this second generation "R", at this weight, it does what I need ............ go moisture go. Nothing, however, is perfect, and if there is a negative it's when the wind cuts during a stop while using it as a stand alone top. Where the moisture goes through the grid the wind can follow. When I wear it with a light wind break or other mid-layers the insulation factor is surprising....problem solved.
