So far so good
March 28, 2012

I bought this jacket primarily for traveling. The fit seems a little large but it is very well made. (I'm 6' and 240 and I purchased a XXL). Pockets are good sized and have zippers. The ends of the sleeves have velcro so you can snug them up. Zippers, seams and hood all appear to be well sewn. I haven't had the chance to wear it in a full-blown rainstorm yet, but the fabric has a nice feel to it and looks sharp as well. Highly recommended.

I really like the way this jacket stuffs down into it's own pocket. It stuffs down small, it's easy to pack and the jacket is light weight. This jacket fits pefectly over my Marmot Zeus. This jacket is well made and will serve it's purpose in the wind and rain. The jacket is well worth the price, and I'm happy with the purchase.

Great lightweight rain shell
December 16, 2011

This is a great rain shell that you can put over anything. It is super light and does a good job of repelling rain (believe me, I live in Seattle). It is also very stylish and has a slim fit if you care about the fashion aspect of this coat. I would recommend this relatively good priced jacket to anyone.

Solid Rain Jacket
December 07, 2011

I would recommend this jacket as a basic rain gear item. It is not as lightweight as I would have perhaps thought for the price, but it does quite well keeping me dry. It also can get a little too warm if it's somewhat warm outside, as it does not breath too well. It is a good jacket though, and I would recommend.

Great Jacket
October 31, 2011

One of the Best torrentshell jackets I have had. Used it to watch a soccer game outdoors during 30 degree weather and pouring rain. It was definitely waterproof kept me dry. I got the Alpha Green jacket. I've been getting compliments on my jacket everywhere I go. The only problem with the jacket is that the hood is a little small and will come off unless you pull the zipper all the way up.

All the features were there, the material, zippers , the elestic draws, and hood are all awsome and with the h2no system it keeps the weather out ,worn with my down sweater or any other layer makes this the Pefect Shell

Function over form
August 18, 2011

Functions perfectly against the elements, fits true to size, maybe a tad large, but not enough to order a size down, and alpha green color is perfect for work in the jungle/deep woods... However, I bought it to replace another patagonia rain jacket i was issued from work...the old one had a pocket to store the hood, but this one didn't...also the collar comes a little high on the neck...not really happy with that. Over-all a good piece of gear, I would have preferred a design closer to Marmont's PreCip, but as far as functionality, the Torrentshell is better.

Great Rainwear
July 22, 2011

Excellent product. I have had this rain jacket for approx 5 yrs and it has held up great. I purchased another recently for my son. This breathes fairly well. The pit zips are very helpful in cooling off when rain slows or stops and its still humid. I live in the south where huge sudden rainfalls occur and this has performed well. As with my experience with other patagonia products this is an excellent product.

Good, but not great
April 02, 2011

This Patagonia rain shell does the job, but doesn't have all the great details that my other Patagonia jackets have. Lightweight, but cuffs and pockets lack quality. Always pleased with Patagonia products and have them a long time.

Pros: Lasts forever, Great value

AWESOME SHELL
March 28, 2011

This jacket fits well, and looks nice, but i was wet after 30 min of light rain on a backpacking trip even while the DWR was still brand new. i don't know if i got a lemon or what, but this jacket did not perform. I was able to return it with no questions asked, and now i have the Rain Shadow which kicks rain in the teeth.

Boxy and stiff
March 21, 2011

I bought this as a shell, expecting to layer it. It is quite boxy, even with adjustment of the straps. While this would help with the layering, it still felt stiff. I'm not sure if they really mean this to be a technical piece, but I am a rower, and this would be particularly difficult to work with.

A great replacement
March 14, 2011

Replaces a previous Patagonia iteration which was showing its age. Its functionality was as good as new. Front zipper has only top down where previous also had bottom up. I miss the bottom up. The yellow color is much brighter than the previous and more pleasing to me. I'm in-between a large and an XL. I take an XL because I like a looser fit.

Great Jacket. I wanted a jacket that had multiple purposes. Hiking, Bike Riding, Sounder FC games. Yes, it does rain in Tacoma, WA.. First experience was the the Chilly Hilly 33mile road bike ride in Feb., 31 degrees with snow and rain.. It kept me dry and warm without a ton of sweating.

Great Light Weight Jacket
January 28, 2011

I've always had trouble finding a light weight waterproof jacket with a lining that does not retain moisture and feel clamy. After retiring I now drive a school bus averaging 35 to 55 kids so the temp swing in the bus is pretty drastic where I typically begin my route wearing a jacket over a polo and half way through the route I'm looking to shed the jacket. The lining of this jacket appears to be less apt to retain or promote excessive perspiration and will do well in the bus. The sizing of the jacket will permit layering (long sleeve polo) for temps 55 or so and really come in handy on warmer rainy days when temps are above 60 where a short sleeve shirt might be appropriate. Time will tell regarding how it's durability but after owning numerous light jackets and being disapointed and returning them or giving them away I think this will be a "keeper" and I've found a brand in Patagonia to look to first when I need outerwear.

Good Value
January 24, 2011

The jacket represents a good combination of quality and price. The seams and zippers are well made and fairly easy to use with light-weight gloves. The under-arm zippered vents are an excellent feature. I selected the yellow color for visibility reasons and that it is! The only features that I'm not fond of are the velcro closures on the sleeves. They cling to everything and often those things you don't want to become stuck to you! I would prefer elastic drawstrings, but that may be more of a personal matter. Finally, the neck fitting is tight with the hood up and it doesn't neatly fold away as advertised. Overall, I would recommend this jacket to anyone needing good wind and water protection. There are better products on the market, but the increased cost may not be really worth it unless you are in a monsoon.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, color
Cons: sleeve closure

Perfect wind/rain jacket
September 01, 2010

I've been looking for a simple and perfect rain jacket for awhile and purchased this one in gecko green. This jacket rocks! Just took it on a trip to northern California and it handled the cool coastal wind, fog, and mist perfectly. I'm 6'2" and 185 and the large fits great with room to spare for a fleece baselayer and the sleeves, which are always too short for me when I buy a jacket are just right with this jacket. Haven't had the opportunity to use it in a good rain yet, but I'm sure it will work fine for a rainy walking of the dogs. So overall, the perfect rain jacket.

Perfect All Around Utility Jacket

Got this for me and one for wife. One of the drawstrings broke the first time I used mine (don't know how or why)...Altrec replaced it the very next day!! No problems since. We both love this jacket and wear it all the time. Only wish they made one for the kids!

Nice lightweight rain jacket
August 09, 2010

This is a nice lightweight rain jacket with a slimmer than normal fit. The pit zips are great when you start to overheat. I should mention to other fly fishers that the adjustable velcro wrists seem to always catch my flyline.

April 13, 2010

I love this rain jacket. I'm 6'0 165 and the medium is fitted perfect for me. Nice and light and packable, love the pits zips, old school zippers on the front for ease, hood fits a helmet but isn't giant like on other jackets. My new favorite jacket!

Good Design, Poor Fit
March 30, 2010

Four stars for the overall design, materials, weight, and price for a Patagonia quality jacket. My problem is the fit. The jacket is described as "Regular Fit" but it is cut like a "Slim Fit." It is tight in the chest at the arm holes but has longer than usual sleeves. I considered ordering an XL, but don't want to have to return that because of sleeve length. I'm normally a large for reg. cut Patagonia products, especially jackets, and X-large for slim. I'm returning it and really like buying from Altrec for the selection and customer service. I'd order a size up if you plan on laying anything above an R1 top.
