A great replacement
March 14, 2011
Replaces a previous Patagonia iteration which was showing its age. Its functionality was as good as new. Front zipper has only top down where previous also had bottom up. I miss the bottom up. The yellow color is much brighter than the previous and more pleasing to me. I'm in-between a large and an XL. I take an XL because I like a looser fit.
March 09, 2010
the torrent shell jacket fits me well. adjustable Velcro on sleeves is the key to fitting my shorter than average arms. many pockets and great material make this a must on any camping trip.
Men's Torrentshell Jacket
March 05, 2011
Great Jacket. I wanted a jacket that had multiple purposes. Hiking, Bike Riding, Sounder FC games. Yes, it does rain in Tacoma, WA.. First experience was the the Chilly Hilly 33mile road bike ride in Feb., 31 degrees with snow and rain.. It kept me dry and warm without a ton of sweating.
Great shell jacket
January 25, 2011
I wanted a lightweight waterproof shell and that's exactly what I got. It is constructed with the quality I've come to expect from Patagonia. Great color too (geko).
Perfect All Around Utility Jacket
August 16, 2010
Got this for me and one for wife. One of the drawstrings broke the first time I used mine (don't know how or why)...Altrec replaced it the very next day!! No problems since. We both love this jacket and wear it all the time. Only wish they made one for the kids!
One of my son's favorite jackets
May 31, 2010
This is the only jacket my son took with him on a trip to Europe - he has worn it every day!- Now my husband wants one!
Can't believe it!
February 24, 2013
I've tried this jacket in store and thought it was a must have. I almost broke down and bought it on the spot but I resisted and told myself I must check online first. And what do you know? I found this little gem of altrec.com. Couldn't believe what they had to offer. All I have to say is that this is not going to be my last purchase!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

So far so good with this jacket. It keeps me dry, fits well and has a nice hood that comes in handy for tough storms.
December 02, 2010
Bought the Torrentshell for my husband for a Christmas presents. Did tons of research, and this looks like the best jacket for a good price! He needs a good lightweight jacket for travel, hiking, boating and rainy spring ski days. I think the Torrentshell will do the trick!
quality rain jacket
October 16, 2012
I got this jacket for general colllege and outdoor use. So far, it's been great. It's kept me very dry and protected from the wind. Water beads right up on the surface (as it should). I have not worn it in very warm conditions but it seems to vent pretty well with the large pit zips. Coupled with a base layer it can be worn year round. A bonus is that it also looks great (I have the Channel Blue). As far as the size goes it seems true to the size chart. It's on the bigger side of large jackets i own but that's what the measurements stated it would be. Another pro is the packability. The fact that is packs into it's own pocket has been very convenient for traveling and just when i think it will be a good idea to have the jacket on hand. The only cons i can see are the lack of mesh in the pockets for venting and the lack of a microfleece chin guard.Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, light weight
December 29, 2012
nice, soft and light weighted! Would buy another for friends the price is acceptable. The shipping is a little bit slow but tolerable. You can get coupons from them for further purchasing.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value, Cons: Cost
Legitimately field tested
February 26, 2013
In zip code 20814 just now (8pm ET, 2/26/13, strong wind, driving rain) It is storm repellent. Proper balance of weight and warmth. Had a thick mountain hardware piece as a base layer and unzipped the pits of the Torrentshell. No problems of any kind. Dry and comfortable. Most running-specialized rain gear is really "drizzle gear" for people who go inside shortly, or don't go out in foul weather. Get the Patagonia.Pros: Lasts forever, Performance

Excellent product. I have had this rain jacket for approx 5 yrs and it has held up great. I purchased another recently for my son. This breathes fairly well. The pit zips are very helpful in cooling off when rain slows or stops and its still humid. I live in the south where huge sudden rainfalls occur and this has performed well. As with my experience with other patagonia products this is an excellent product.
October 08, 2010
Fantastic jacket! I was looking for a shell that I could take while traveling on the go. It needed to be light, durable, compact, and water proof. I certainly found it in this Patagonia jacket. I highly recommend purchasing this jacket!
January 08, 2011
Great jacket. Perfect for San Diego Climate. Great fit, nice features. Nicely waterproof in a hard rain. Would definitely buy again.
Good Design, Poor Fit
March 30, 2010
Four stars for the overall design, materials, weight, and price for a Patagonia quality jacket. My problem is the fit. The jacket is described as "Regular Fit" but it is cut like a "Slim Fit." It is tight in the chest at the arm holes but has longer than usual sleeves. I considered ordering an XL, but don't want to have to return that because of sleeve length. I'm normally a large for reg. cut Patagonia products, especially jackets, and X-large for slim. I'm returning it and really like buying from Altrec for the selection and customer service. I'd order a size up if you plan on laying anything above an R1 top.

Nice lightweight rain jacket
August 09, 2010
This is a nice lightweight rain jacket with a slimmer than normal fit. The pit zips are great when you start to overheat. I should mention to other fly fishers that the adjustable velcro wrists seem to always catch my flyline.
Great Light Weight Jacket
January 28, 2011
I've always had trouble finding a light weight waterproof jacket with a lining that does not retain moisture and feel clamy. After retiring I now drive a school bus averaging 35 to 55 kids so the temp swing in the bus is pretty drastic where I typically begin my route wearing a jacket over a polo and half way through the route I'm looking to shed the jacket. The lining of this jacket appears to be less apt to retain or promote excessive perspiration and will do well in the bus. The sizing of the jacket will permit layering (long sleeve polo) for temps 55 or so and really come in handy on warmer rainy days when temps are above 60 where a short sleeve shirt might be appropriate. Time will tell regarding how it's durability but after owning numerous light jackets and being disapointed and returning them or giving them away I think this will be a "keeper" and I've found a brand in Patagonia to look to first when I need outerwear.
Great Rain Jacket - a bit big
December 05, 2010
Love the jacket. The blue was a beautiful color. Great for tall people. I had to return it because the arms were TOO long and the body was a bit big around.
Solid Rain Jacket
December 07, 2011
I would recommend this jacket as a basic rain gear item. It is not as lightweight as I would have perhaps thought for the price, but it does quite well keeping me dry. It also can get a little too warm if it's somewhat warm outside, as it does not breath too well. It is a good jacket though, and I would recommend.
October 31, 2011
One of the Best torrentshell jackets I have had. Used it to watch a soccer game outdoors during 30 degree weather and pouring rain. It was definitely waterproof kept me dry. I got the Alpha Green jacket. I've been getting compliments on my jacket everywhere I go. The only problem with the jacket is that the hood is a little small and will come off unless you pull the zipper all the way up.
So far so good
March 28, 2012
I bought this jacket primarily for traveling. The fit seems a little large but it is very well made. (I'm 6' and 240 and I purchased a XXL). Pockets are good sized and have zippers. The ends of the sleeves have velcro so you can snug them up. Zippers, seams and hood all appear to be well sewn. I haven't had the chance to wear it in a full-blown rainstorm yet, but the fabric has a nice feel to it and looks sharp as well. Highly recommended.
Lightweight and Effective
March 10, 2010
This light jacket repels water and worn with sweater or fleece will keep you pretty warm. Very happy with my purchase.
January 24, 2011
The jacket represents a good combination of quality and price. The seams and zippers are well made and fairly easy to use with light-weight gloves. The under-arm zippered vents are an excellent feature. I selected the yellow color for visibility reasons and that it is! The only features that I'm not fond of are the velcro closures on the sleeves. They cling to everything and often those things you don't want to become stuck to you! I would prefer elastic drawstrings, but that may be more of a personal matter. Finally, the neck fitting is tight with the hood up and it doesn't neatly fold away as advertised. Overall, I would recommend this jacket to anyone needing good wind and water protection. There are better products on the market, but the increased cost may not be really worth it unless you are in a monsoon.
March 28, 2011
This jacket fits well, and looks nice, but i was wet after 30 min of light rain on a backpacking trip even while the DWR was still brand new. i don't know if i got a lemon or what, but this jacket did not perform. I was able to return it with no questions asked, and now i have the Rain Shadow which kicks rain in the teeth.
Re: Moving Back
September 08, 2010
This jacket has made the move from sunny California to rainy/cold New York bearable. Great with pairing a hoodie or sweater. Running in, going to class, going to work, this jacket is perfect.
Great lightweight rain shell
December 16, 2011
This is a great rain shell that you can put over anything. It is super light and does a good job of repelling rain (believe me, I live in Seattle). It is also very stylish and has a slim fit if you care about the fashion aspect of this coat. I would recommend this relatively good priced jacket to anyone.
April 26, 2012
It is an excellent jacket! Also i loved the way you can fold it like a little bag. I really recommend it for evrybody. I used it when i climbed a mountain full of snow and it kept my dry all the time
January 07, 2012
I really like the way this jacket stuffs down into it's own pocket. It stuffs down small, it's easy to pack and the jacket is light weight. This jacket fits pefectly over my Marmot Zeus. This jacket is well made and will serve it's purpose in the wind and rain. The jacket is well worth the price, and I'm happy with the purchase.
Perfect Spring Rain Jacket
April 13, 2010
I love this rain jacket. I'm 6'0 165 and the medium is fitted perfect for me. Nice and light and packable, love the pits zips, old school zippers on the front for ease, hood fits a helmet but isn't giant like on other jackets. My new favorite jacket!
Boxy and stiff
March 21, 2011
I bought this as a shell, expecting to layer it. It is quite boxy, even with adjustment of the straps. While this would help with the layering, it still felt stiff. I'm not sure if they really mean this to be a technical piece, but I am a rower, and this would be particularly difficult to work with.
snow or rain
March 16, 2013
Right out of the package I was impressed with this waterproof jacket. I loved the sleeves being just a little longer than normal. At 6ft and 200 lbs, I struggle to find jackets with sleeves long enough. First time worn was for snowshoeing, breathed really well. Followed that with some time behind a snow blower, great mobility with the size.Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value
February 05, 2010
Light weight, fit is true to size. Room to fit over a light sweater or mid-layer. Great colors, I like the Henna Brown.
Great Rain Jacket!
November 14, 2011
Super lightweight, comfortable rain jacket. A friend had the same one and loved it so I gave it a try and I'm very happy. Going to be overseas next year in a very rain heavy/monsoon climate and am glad i'll have this lightweight jacket to protect me.
March 31, 2013
After seeing this jacket win the best value award for rain jackets in this years Backpacker magazine I decided to give it a shot... and I'm glad I did. The jacket it light at roughly 12oz, yet doesn't feel cheap at all once you put it on. Another great bonus is that it packs into its own pocket and takes up very little room when you aren't wearing it. This fit is perfect and it does what it says. You can't go wrong with this jacket.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

October 08, 2011
I picked up the Geko Green Torrentshell jaket, when it arrived I was surprised to see just how nice this shell was ,I was replaceing another shell that had worn out and i knew exactaly what i was looking for . All the features were there, the material, zippers , the elestic draws, and hood are all awsome and with the h2no system it keeps the weather out ,worn with my down sweater or any other layer makes this the Pefect Shell
Colorful rain wear
April 01, 2011
Very light, functional, colorful, handy price. I put it on anywhere commuting, the mountaineering, the climb, and the sports gym. Moreover, my wife also likes it very much.
December 12, 2010
Great light weight rain protection. Easy to pack. A must have for your suitcase
March 18, 2013
Altrec has been the best online company to buy products from. My Patagonia Torrentshell jacket matched perfectly to the descriptions and specifications listed. This jacket's shoulders were much narrower than other XL jackets and I had to return it due to sizing. I would not buy this product again but it looked like a high quality product.Pros: Build quality, Great value
Great Spring Jacket
October 06, 2010
This jacket is perfect for spring weather and especially if it rains. I mean, no water gets through, none at all. Has a nice athletic cut and blocks out wind fairly well. One of the nicest looking items Patagonia makes. I got mine in black,
February 05, 2011
Awesome jacket which protected me from recent monsoon rains. Got caught in major thunderstorm with fifty mph winds and I stayed totally dry. Highly recommend this jacket.
Perfect in all ways.
March 29, 2010
Great jacket that is true to size. Velcro at wrists allow for perfect adjustments.
Good, but not great
April 02, 2011
This Patagonia rain shell does the job, but doesn't have all the great details that my other Patagonia jackets have. Lightweight, but cuffs and pockets lack quality. Always pleased with Patagonia products and have them a long time.
Keeping rain completely away
March 15, 2013
I've had this jacket for a about a month now which has been filled with rain, but this jacket has been so water repellent that I haven't been able to get it wet. When it begins to rain while I'm driving or in class, the rain just stops as soon as I'm gonna be outside. This jacket will ensure your dryness."
Perfect wind/rain jacket
September 01, 2010
I've been looking for a simple and perfect rain jacket for awhile and purchased this one in gecko green. This jacket rocks! Just took it on a trip to northern California and it handled the cool coastal wind, fog, and mist perfectly. I'm 6'2" and 185 and the large fits great with room to spare for a fleece baselayer and the sleeves, which are always too short for me when I buy a jacket are just right with this jacket. Haven't had the opportunity to use it in a good rain yet, but I'm sure it will work fine for a rainy walking of the dogs. So overall, the perfect rain jacket.
January 30, 2010
100% waterproof, just what I was looking for. Extremely light weight- feels like not wearing anything. Packs incredibly small and into it's own pocket so can take it anywhere- literally. Pit zips are great, although hard to zip back up. The hood is fantastic as you can adjust the entire hood by just pulling once (the string goes all around and atop the hood). Main zipper has flaps on the inside and outside which is awesome. Very breathable hardshell!
September 27, 2010
light and waterproof, the usual Patagonia quality, simple, not too fitted and not too baggy
Great jacket for the price
January 15, 2013
Jacket is extremely lightweight, packable, and versatile - the pit zips are particularly handy to have to quickly help vent out excess heat (though the jacket may be marketed as breathable, it can certainly get a little clammy, though nothing too bad). Despite its lightweight construction, this jacket has held up well over the year or so it's been used so far. Even after various rough encounters with shrubs and rock face, it shows minimal signs of wear. The water repellant coating will sooner or later come off, but it's nothing an occasional wash in re-coating can't fix. For the price, this has been, and will continue to be a good value.Pros: good value, lightweight, packable, durable, Cons: noisy
As expected - exceptional
August 13, 2011
Reluctant at first to get a "shell" garment; however, not disappointed. Lightweight and extremely water-resistant. Delighted with product and highly recommend.
Excellent lightweight shell
May 20, 2011
This jacket is a great all purpose shell. Very light and well made. Quality has really improved on this jacket. I find the fit to be true to size. For the price the torrentshell is hard to top
Function over form
August 18, 2011
Functions perfectly against the elements, fits true to size, maybe a tad large, but not enough to order a size down, and alpha green color is perfect for work in the jungle/deep woods... However, I bought it to replace another patagonia rain jacket i was issued from work...the old one had a pocket to store the hood, but this one didn't...also the collar comes a little high on the neck...not really happy with that. Over-all a good piece of gear, I would have preferred a design closer to Marmont's PreCip, but as far as functionality, the Torrentshell is better.
