These trunks are very well made, fit well, and look good. I have even considered buying a second pair. I look forward to taking these trunks on vacation.Pros: Build quality, Performance
Patagonia board shorts
January 07, 2012
I live in these in the summer. They dry ridiculously fast and I wear them way more than I should, almost like kakhi shorts. I live in Chicago so I only get to wear them a few months of the year but I wear them 90% of that time. Fit true to size and are really durable. It's Patagonia, it ain't cheap but it lasts. You gotta pay to play.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: Cost
June 11, 2011
As you know with patagonia products, the quality is there. I use these shorts everywhere and everyday. The are more durable than most of the boardshorts out there and i haven't ripped them climbing over and around jetties getting to surf spots and fishing. These haven't faded at all. I have two pairs of patagonia boardshorts that i wear 5 out the the 7 days a week during the summer. These shorts get the seal of approval. These shorts are not stretchy like a pair of phantoms from hurley, and that could be my only conceivable con. if you want stretchy, get the wave-farer boardshorts that are stretchy. You will probably pay a bit more for these shorts than your average quiksilver/billabong trunks, but these will last a lot longer. After a couple days of being in the salt water, they kind of stand up on their own, but if your are just going to jump back in the surf, who cares, but wash them before going to the bar though.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, sweet, awesome, not stretchy, Cons: not stretchy
January 15, 2011
Love these shorts! At 6'5", nearly all trunks are too short on me. Finally came across these and they they are the perfect length. About an inch above the knees on me. I mostly use them for swimming. They have a tie front. No elastic. This means they have a better look to them, but not a lot of flexibility if you put on or take off weight. I actually went ahead and bought the next size up, too, in case I put on weight. They are light weight and dry very quickly. Great looking shorts!Pros: Great design
May 30, 2011
I love these board shorts! They are just what I was looking for. I will definitely be ordering another pair in the near future. I am amazed at how quick they become dry after being in the water.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Excellent, versatile shorts
May 15, 2011
I purchased these shorts before a trip to the Keys and they were perfect for fishing, swimming and moving around on land. They dry extremely fast and are quite comfortable. Overall these are the best board shorts I've owned and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Nice Board Shorts
May 20, 2011
Patagonia is nice stuff and worth the money. True to size - I'm a 33, and it fits perfect. This is my third pair - they just wear forever (and I"m really, really tough on my clothes)! The length, waste, material, and color are all great and exactly as listed in Altrec description.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever
January 03, 2013
These board shorts fit to their sizing and are really durable. I think my only minor complaint would be that sense they are so durable they are a little stiff especially compared to the new 4 stretch fabrics that other companies are introducing.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
Best board shorts I've purchased
June 17, 2011
I just bought these board shorts for a trip to Florida. They fit great, dry quickly, and look terrific. I wore them in the water and just lounging around. Don't buy these too big. Choose your actual waist size.
May 18, 2011
Patagonia makes some of the best shorts available. The company is environmentally-proactive and their warranty is best in the business. Clean, minimalist, styling shorts perform great in the water and look great out of the water. I suggest ordering true to size as it is difficult to tighten waistband. For instance, I wear 34" in pants but ordered a 33" in the wavefarer.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
July 20, 2011
High quality...seems durable over time...great look and fit. Fits true to size. Would not size up cause waist loosens up a bit when wet...draw string fly takes care of it.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
GREAT board shorts
December 05, 2010
Although I am no accomplished rider, nor do I actually use these for surfing, I'll definitely recommend these board shorts as your newest go-to for a great pair of swim trunks. They fit true to size (below the waist where you want them to be) with no bunching or chafing. I often don't worry about bringing a change of clothes as these shorts dry SUPER fast and they look good enough to wear through the rest of the day too. Another quality piece from Patagonia...Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
April 25, 2013
Bought one of these in 2009 and have been wearing it 2-3 times a week when going to the beach for swimming or jogging. It's held up quite well, so I got 3 more pairs since then 2011. Some design patterns are stylish enough that one can use them as casual shorts. Some improvements have been made... a sliding button, slightly bigger pocket, and the string is wider with a rougher texture to resist coming loose when tied. These shorts are a good value if you can get them at a discount.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
May 31, 2011
This swimsuit is close to perfect. The material is light but seems strong. The DWR coating is great for being on the water because the shorts stay dry around boat spray and dry really quickly after swimming. I'm 6'4" and weigh about 200lbs and usually wear a 33" or 34" waist. I got the 33" waist originally thinking they would be better small rather than large and returned them and got the 34" and they fit a lot better. Great shorts for the price, especially when you get them on an Altrec's sale.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
Patagonia Surf Trunks
September 26, 2011
Best surf trunks in the whole world. Bomb proof and comfortable and the best customer service in the industry. Never fades and grows on you. I wear mine for surfing and all around.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
June 22, 2011
These shorts are high-quailty and comfortable. They fit well however mine tend to become larger in the waist when wet. They dry fast and have a lower drag than most boardshorts. Overall, its a great product.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: Cost
Fast drying and Good looking!
April 18, 2011
We love these shorts.... They are great looking, durable, comfortable and dry very quickly! Love that Patagonia does so much with recycled products...(though not necessarily these). They also machine wash and dry easily.Pros: Great design
All around trunks
May 16, 2013
Overall, good product for the money. I'm a 35 waist and its difficult to find clothes that come in odd sizes. I'll be wearing these trunks in/out of the water all summer.Pros: Great value
The new classic
August 06, 2011
well maybe not so new.....but new to me. WOW-these are great. I was on the fence about these -I thought they might be expensive and not sure how they would fit. Proved me wrong 2x!!! They fit AMAZING, and well worth every penny. Live in Florida., always at the beach, always hot here- they dry super fast, qualityin their build, and family friendly-(they dont "show the goods" if you catch my drift........yeah)- Perfect. Some people live in jeans-noway-this is where its at! You will have these for many years-Cheers!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Patagonia Board Shorts - Great, but too long
September 01, 2011
I like the style of these board shorts, but return this version for the minimalist board shorts. I felt the 21 inch were a bit long. I am 6'1" and still thought they hung to low on the knee. Also, I am a thinner guy and felt this length was a bit boxy.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: long/boxey
September 15, 2011
The patigonia board shorts are great quality and fit. As usual patigonia makes their products to last. At full price the item is a little costly, but on sale a great bang for you buck.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: Cost
April 24, 2010
Taking these board shorts to a trip to Australia and New Zealand. I have no doubt they will be great. Look and feel incredible. The way all board shorts should.
Best boardshorts ever!
November 14, 2011
I have boardshorts from just about every manufacturer and the Wavefarer are my favorite. The fit is true, the quality is exceptional, these are the most durable boardshorts I have. This is my second pair of wavefarer, the first pair are still doing the job, I just loved this sedimentary design so I copped them too. Buy themPros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, mad steezy
Great fit, great performance!
July 22, 2011
These swimming trunks are a great fit and they are comfortable, easy to move in, and dry pretty quickly. I like the length - not too short and not too long. They run true to size. I'm a fan of all the patterns too because they look sweet with a tee shirt in the summer. The funkier, the better! :)
September 19, 2011
Great price, fast deliver, love the web site. High quality...seems durable over time...great look and fit. Fits true to size. Would not size up cause waist loosens up a bit when wet...draw string fly takes care of it.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value
Great board shorts - but beware of sizing!
July 09, 2012
I bought these board shorts - 21" - because I have a long history with them. My old pair - about 3 years old now - were starting to show a bit of wear, so I ordered this year's model, same size. My weight hasn't really changed, but the new ones were much bigger! I called Patagonia - even though I bought this particular pair from Altrec - and sure enough, my old size 34s actually measure 35". (Who knew?!) However, in this year's model, a size 34 = 35 3/4! So.... great shorts - just realize that Patagonia board shorts are actually (at least) an inch to an inch-and-a-half larger than advertised.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: sizing
February 28, 2010
Lightweight, slim fitting. Caribbean "dress shorts".
August 04, 2010
Awesome shorts very comfortable great style....have got a ton of complements and questions typical patagonia product
December 12, 2011
These are my third pair of wavefarers, and the only reason I got this pair, was so that I could wash my other pairs in between. I wear boardshorts everyday, and these are durable enough to walk through any brush to a far away break but nice enough to wear to the bar after surfing. I've got red, black, and the blue pattern, and all are great. No chafeage and still feel like new. One of my pairs is over five years old and still going strong. A good buy and backed by Patagonia's awesome repair warranty.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, comfortable, Cons: heavy/thick (good thing)
Fits perfect, looks great
July 27, 2010
These shorts fit my husband perfectly and are made really well. The Free Lei: Henna Brown style looks great!
Fast drying and Good looking!
April 18, 2011

Patagonia board shorts 21 in
July 13, 2011
True fit board shorts. I have been buying these shorts for 5+ years and my old ones, although faded, are comfortable and maintain their original fit. Durable and long lasting. Would recommendPros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
May 10, 2010
Ordered these for my very active son and he loves them. He's pretty picky about his outdoor gear and I knew Patagonia was one of his favorite brands. I'm sure I'll be seeing them on him throughout the summer.
December 18, 2010
These are some of the most comfortable boardshorts I have ever worn. I am 6'4" and the shorts hit at the knee. They are longer and have a looser fit than I was expecting, but I still receive compliments every time I wear them. I also have the Patagonia Minimalist Boardshorts and would recommend those if you prefer your shorts to hit slightly above the knee.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: baggy fit
My Favorite Swim Shorts
February 26, 2013
These Patagonia board shorts are very comfortable, very tough and well made, and look almost like new after a couple of summers of heavy use. They're fade resistant, colors still bright, shed water and dry quickly, even in the humid southeast. I have four pairs, and they're holding up so well, I may never have to replace them!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
June 21, 2012
These are my favorite board shorts. They fit great. I'm 6'-3" and I have a hard time finding board shorts that don't look stupid... to short or skinny... but these are great. I would highly recommend. This is actually my second pair.
January 03, 2013
These board shorts fit to their sizing and are really durable. I think my only minor complaint would be that sense they are so durable they are a little stiff especially compared to the new 4 stretch fabrics that other companies are introducing.Cons: little stiff
Great Stuff as always!
September 02, 2010
Never disappointed in quality of merchandise.
The only boardshort you need
December 26, 2011
I own a few pairs of these, since they never seem to wear out. Over the past several years, Patagonia has made small but valuable design improvements primarily relating to the closure. They ultimately did away with velcro, which means that they are durable, and won't scratch you. They are just a solid pair of boardshorts that work well enough to enable you forget about them, and concentrate on surfing, swimming, etc. Really, the only boardshot you will ever need, I can't recommend them highly enough. Cons are minor and would include occasional size inconsistency and the fact that they may not be long enough for some folks used to below the knee shorts.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: Cost
February 01, 2012
good quality, good price, prompt shipping and easily adjustable for the fit - and best of all, they sorta/kinda go with my keone nunes long sleeve rash guard
Great board shorts
January 08, 2013
I bought these shorts for my honeymoon to Maui - I wanted to look the part. Very nice shorts. I bought a size 32. I'm 6'0" and the length was perfect, just about at my knee. No liner in these, which is a good thing in my opinion. Fabric is very high quality and the lacing system is easy and comfortable.Pros: Great design, Build quality
great shorts, will order another pair
July 05, 2010
I've worn these almost every day since getting them. Very comfortable and light and they look and wear great. I'm just checking out the other colors to see which ones to order next.
Great Beach Shorts
March 26, 2012
Love the these Patagonia board shorts! Great quality, design and fit. It's the best beach shorts for all activities. Easily worn thru out the day. Only beach shorts you'll need...ever!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Best swim trunks ever!
September 28, 2010
I love these swim trunks! They are the perfect thickness. Not flimsy like most swim trunk material. They are slightly water repellant...meaning they don't aborb water and get drenched. Quick to dry. The length is perfect. You need to get the right size, though, because although they have a string to tighten them, it does not go all the way around and there is no button. Also, there are no inner net underwear, like many swim trunks have, but I can live with that. Really, it's all about the look, and these trunks look great!
May 18, 2011
These shorts are great!! Ive had several pair and they fit great and dry fast. A must have for anyone seeking watersports or a beach lifestyle. Get some today!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Great Features, Odd Cut
May 18, 2011
These board shorts are well made, have a button fly, a zippered side pocket that drains and small loops that keep the "shoelace" waist band tie in place. I like everything about them except the cut/shape. It's hard to describe, but they're "blousey" in the rear end. I know they're just board shorts, but the cut is definitely different than several other common brands. My girlfriend does not like them, so I'll probably return them.Pros: Build quality, features, Cons: fit
Great All Around Shorts
June 27, 2011
I wear these all summer up at the lake. Great in the water or just sitting on the boat fishing. Fit is a little smaller so if your a larger guy order a size up.Pros: Build quality
Good chillaxing swim trousers
May 06, 2011
I would fully recommend these shorts because they are sturdy fabric that dries quickly, the pocket is decent size, and most importantly they are a baggy fit without being huge like many other board shorts. I may just get another pair!Pros: Build quality, Cons: Cost
Durable, Functional, and Stylish
June 20, 2011
Great on the boat, at the pool, at the shore. Only one zippered pocket. Another would be nice. This is my 2nd pair and plan on picking up a couple more.Pros: Build quality
Simplicity at its best
June 04, 2012
Patagonia Wavefarer board shorts simply can't be beat, because they are so simple. This no-nonsense design is a popular classic for a reason. I realized this when I got my first pair and will never buy anything else. They have no equal in fit, comfort, quality and style.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever
Men's Wavefarer Boardshorts -- The best I've ever owned!
March 02, 2010
I bought the Patagonia Wavefarer Boardshorts (21 in -- length hits right above the knee) Nimbus Palm Leaf about a week before our vacation to St. Croix. I broke out the shorts as soon as we arrived. They were excellent! They wore true to fit size, are well made like all Patagonia items are and after being in the ocean snorkling, scuba diving and swiming in the pool they dried out extremely fast and had no residual smell. Additionally, the pocket on the side was perfect for putting a wallet while walking around or a ring in during the water activities. I would highly recommend these shorts after I searched for several days. You will not go wrong with them!!
Yup, just what I was looking for
July 23, 2010
quick drying, non-baggy cut, single zippered pocket, good stitching, solid fabric, simple styling, done deal. Size was larger than expected, out of the box they hit below the knee, but after the wash they hit just above the knee and are a perfect now.
Another quality piece from Patagonia...
October 15, 2011
I do actually use these for surfing, I'll definitely recommend these board shorts as your newest go-to for a great pair of swim trunks. They fit true to size (below the waist where you want them to be) with no bunching or chafing. I often don't worry about bringing a change of clothes as these shorts dry SUPER fast and they look good enough to wear through the rest of the day too. Another quality piece from Patagonia... I have 3 pair of these. Two Swim Trunks and the Cotton pair. Patagonia puts out some innovative & top products! Great Product! Highly Recommend!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
May 27, 2010
I spent a weekend at the lake and loved them! They dry out quick and are light when wet. The fit is comfortable, all is good!
