Highly insulative, 100% chlorine-free, merino wool zip-neck baselayer for stop-and-go activities on cold to very cold days.
Let the highly insulative Wool 4, with its terry-looped interior and cozy collar, keep you warm and dry during cold winter walkabouts. Made from a soft, dense 100%-merino-wool jersey-knit with a terry-loop back, this performance baselayer insulates even when wet, naturally resists odor, and stretches to accommodate your every move. Its medium-high collar is cut deep to vent heat, and the zipper is backed by a lightweight wool flap for next-to-skin comfort and a finished look. Both collar and cuffs feature terry loop turned to the outside for a clean finish. Saddle-shoulder raglan sleeves have flat seams that won?t irritate under pack or luggage straps. The slight drop-tail hem and shorter length mean less to tuck in. Eco-washed for softness and to reduce shrinkage without the use of environmentally harmful chlorine.
The perfect answer
After using underarmor as a basic long underwear to try to keep dry, I am now a convert to merino wool. Poly and underarmor leave me feeling wet as they basically have to get wet to work to wick away perspiration. Patagonia's wool actually breathes to keep you warm and dry. The neck zipper allows cooling as this level 4 top is quite warm. With both a level 2 and now a level 4, I am equipt to "weather" any storm. Highly recommend this product.
Patagonia's 4 wool zip neck
The main problem with hiking in some place to hunt is controlling the sweat and odor; one so you can sit in a tree stand and be dry and comfortable, two the odor will betray the hunt. This base layer is perfect for this type of activity. It managed the moisture, as the zipper allowed ventilation and kept me warm as only wool can do. I never felt a seam which was an added plus. This is a functional piece of equipment.
