MLC is all you need - if you travel light
November 15, 2012
It is always my dream to be a light traveler. Isn't that why we travel. And that is my goal with this bag. Everything should fit in this bag that I need and somehow it always does. Great quality and always looks great!

Excellent travel bag

I have been looking for an all around, go-to travel bag for quite some time, but I could never seem to find the right one. The Patagonia MLC is a fantastic bag that easily converts from a backpack when you are really rushing through an airport to an over-the-shoulder duffel type bag with the attached strap. The bag is designed to meet the maximum legal carry-on specifications, which makes it somewhat small, but you can pack quite a bit in. It's built rock solid, has multiple pockets for easy organization, and looks great. Recommended!

Great travel gear

I've been on back to back long weekend trips with the MLC. It has enough capacity for a long three or even four day weekend with room to spare for stuff you buy. With proper lightweight and sensible packing, the MLC should serve on week long trips. Four compartments in total. The main compartment holds a lot of clothing for it's size. Compression organizer is a nice touch as is the light grey inner lining which makes finding stuff easier. The larger outer compartment is good for guide books, maps or a light windbreaker. The smaller outer zippered pocket will hold a pen, pencil, notepad and personal stuff. The last compartment is the rear/back one that is lightly padded and can fit a 17" laptop comfortably. I've been using the backpack straps which are fully adjustable with a sternum strap and they stow away nicely. The included shoulder strap and two grab handles offer up alternate carrying methods. The only thing Patagonia should add is an integrated luggage tag, but that's a minor gripe. Overall, this is a great thought out alternative to the traditional carry-on luggage.

The perfect bag

This bag came highly recommended by a co-worker. It immediately became my go-to for weekends away in the car as well as my carry-on bag for business trips. Without all of the parts necessary for a roller bag, I'm able to get more stuff in a "smaller" bag - plus it fits in the overhead bins of smaller, regional jets.
Great Travel Bag

This is my second MLC. I finally needed to replace my first one after about 4 years of heavy use (and it's still usable, just a little worn). It's the perfect size for casual weekend air travel and fits fine beneath seating, even when stuffed full. I like the newer features as well.
Pros: Great design, Build qualityDefinitely what I was looking for.

I had been looking for a personal traveling bag for a long time. I do a lot of weekend trips, conferences, outdoors to offices, and definitely was satisfied with the Patagonia MLC. I feel that it's is big enough for the longer trips, but I do pack very light naturally. If you're known to over back, it might be a little small for you.
Excellent for short or long trips

I got tired of using a wheeled bag that's too big for weekend getaways and a bit overkill for all but the longest trips. I've coveted the Patagonia MLC for at least a decade and after a short trip I broke down and bought one. I'm glad I did. This bag is perfectly sized for short hops. I can put my clothes, shoes and toiletries in there and still have room for a computer and some reading material. I no longer need to carry two bags. The backpack straps are well designed and fit my 5' 11" 225 lb. body nicely. Backpacks may not be ultra businesslike but they work like a dream on real vacations where even ground isn't always the norm. I took this bag on two separate Southwest Airlines flights, one a short up up the coast of California and another to the East Coast. Both times the bag fit nicely into the overhead bin with no hassles, held everything I needed and looked good doing it. I'm not really sure what the insert thing is for. It seems like it's there to hold ties or maybe toiletries. I don't find it very useful except as a compression device to keep my shirts flat and somewhat wrinkle free.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts foreverThe best Short Trip Bag ever.

This is the best luggage bag I have ever owned. Three options to carry. Handle, Shoulder Strap, or Completely hide-able backpack straps. This is key especially if you end up checking the bag, to keep them from getting caught in conveyor machinery. The zippers are the best grade I have ever seen. The pack has more compartments and features than I could imagine. Even after the bag was full I was able to stuff my Mountain Hardwear tech fleece in an outer pocket. That amazed me. The best travel bag ever, and very stylish to boot.
