Under the hood
At first I wanted a wool balaclava like my old Scottish one from Royal Robbins....but, the R1 has won me over, here is why: Extra long neck is ideal for zipping under and inside your base layer to lock out pesky wind. The mouth and nose cut is jawed so to allow movement for the snack bar and hide your face dance of winter skiing. Fits under a bike, climbing or ski helmet primo! Wear it alone to protect neck, face and scalp and then pop it under the hood for full protection from elements.Not much wind protection here, so pair it with other coverings like hats, ear cuffs, another balaclava if you don't have a hood. Washes/dries quickly at the hut so you're ready for the next mornings skin track to freshies. Much more comfortable than Icebreaker's wool version. I like the cool block/checked fleece pattern on the inside...something different to nibble on than your typical synthetic. Grab one and hide your fears under the hood!

It is perfect wind protection for the face on wniter cross country ski trip.

Warm and great fit!
I ordered four different balaclava's from this site for family members. This was the winner. It has the best fit and is warm!

Great, but...
Large isn't large enough. My head measures about 7 3/4 & this would not fit. The construction/design is terrific, as is the R1 fabric. T
