This is a great looking sweater with the benefit of having fleece lining. I have a regular Patagonia fleece but this one just looks so much nicer and is more versatile. The Medium fits perfectly for me, although according to the size guide I am in between Small and Medium - I definitely think Patagonia runs generally small to size. Highly recommended!

It really is a better sweater. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we don't get a lot of rain where I live, but it gets pretty cold for about 6 months out of the year. I wanted something mid-weight that would be comfortable at 50 degree's, but handle temps in the thirties. In addition, I wanted something that didn't look like a ski jacket and I could wear casually or even out on the town. The better sweater fit the bill. It has a nice fit and is made with the usual Patagonia high quality. I liked it so much I bought another for myself and two for my wife.

I was looking for a warm but light jacket to take on our trip to northern europe this summer. I love the lightness and the length of the sleeves (my arms are long given my height) - i am 5'5'and 130 pounds, my onlly issue is that the jacket is a little tight in the bust, so that I won't be able to layer much underneath it, but I thinking that it will be plenty warm with just a shirt underneath.

My sister got a better sweater jacket, and after trying hers I had to have one. I love that it is warm with the fleece on the inside and looks like a sweater on the outside. The fit is great, and another bonus, it doesn't show dog hair like regular fleece does! Another thing I love about Patagonia is there are so many awesome colors to choose from, you'll definitely want more than one better sweater jacket.

LOVE this! The color is amazing, it is the perfect lenght, not too short, hits alittle below hip, great fit. Fit is good and not too tight, can layer beneatherm, I have gotten so many compliements for it! Would definately reccomend!

Love this sweater, I have a long torso and Patagonia fits me the best. My last one didn't last as long as I wish, started piling and looking worn, but I love it so much I bought another.

This Patagonia Better Sweater is the best everyday jacket I have ever had. It really does feel like a sweater but keeps you as warm as a jacket. I love the look and feel of it.

I bought a black Better Sweater to replace an El Cap fleece I used for years and lost. The Better Sweater is a little more substantial and definitely more stylish. I am 5'9", 140 lb, and the small is perfect for wearing over a t-shirt. If I wanted to wear it over a bulkier long-sleeve shirt, a medium probably would be better. I prefer the fitted style of the small for wearing around town, as well as hiking. I have a long torso and found the Better Sweater to be just the right length, so it might be too long on someone with a shorter torso. The sleeves are the perfect length for me.

I have several of these and love them. They are very warm and wonderful in winter. The sleeves are long but I'm 5"2 1/2" and most sleeves are long for me. The length is longer than most fleece jackets which is great in winter. It layers well under a winter coat. It's a bit hot for spring and fall, though. The jackets have worn well and don't pill.

Comfortably warm for a very cold ice rink yet flexible enough to move well in. Fits a little small, had to go up a size to wear layers. Pretty colors offered; I bought three, love them all.

Love the better sweater... it is perfect and warm enough to wear alone and the comfort can't be beat! Patagonia quality is unsurpassed... full zip w/o hood is a more relaxed fit compared to the full zip w/hood - which is more snug - but still extremely comfortable.

I recently purchased this jacket, and so far I'm very pleased with my purchase, especially since I received it within several days once I placed an order online. Like the other reviewers, I found it to be very cozy and warm. I definitely plan on wearing it as a layer in the winter and by itself when it gets warmer. I bought the jacket in magenta and though I love the color, the picture doesn't exactly match up--it's more of a deep pink with some purple, whereas the image makes it look more purple than it actually is. It's thinner and longer than I expected it to be, but it doesn't really bother me. Since I'm 5'4 inches and about 140 pounds and I ordered a M, it goes slightly past my hips. Overall, I recommend this jacket to wear as a layer in the winter and by itself when it's warmer.

I waited to purchase thus sweater just because of price but after 2 years of looking I decided to go for it; it was the best find. After receiving my sweater I am happy with my purchase. Only downside for me was that I thought it would be a little more feminine in the fit. But it is truly a nice sweater, extremely toasty, cute, well made and functional. Would def recommend. And Altrec delivery is amazingly fast.

This is my second "Better Sweater" product from Patagonia. It is warm and cozy like fleece, but looks like a (sporty) sweater. I'd say it's warmer and softer than most sweaters, and you can wash it and it will look exactly the same as before being washed.

That's how much I love this sweater - I own two of them, one in a berry color and the other in a green. I keep one of them at work, where, in our casual office, I can feel both warm and dressed up enough for a work environment. I wanted one for home, too, and have been looking for the past year for the best price. I finally found it at Altrec! The sweater is cozily fleecy on the inside and sturdily soft on the outside. I think it would bear up to outdoor use as well as indoor use. A totally versatile piece.

This jacket is really warm and soft and typical of the excellent quality expected from Patagonia. I also liked the longer sleeves and length of the jacket. One con - the jacket is not windproof.

I purchased this in the purple color XS. It cam very quickly and well packaged. I am 5'6" and 123 lbs, the size was perfect. Would buy over again and recommend it.

This is exactly what I was looking for. It's a nice complementary fit, without being too tight or too lose. I live in my fleece. Seattle is perpetually damp and cold. I wear this over my pj's, my wool shirts, t-shirts, to meetings, take it camping / backpacking, basically all the time. It's a nice cut so I don't feel like I'm in slob mode. Patagonia zippers are the one bummer. It will sometimes fall apart at the base when it's zipped to the chin. The fabric is not light weight and not heavy. I haven't had this too long so I'll update later on wear and tear. (For sizing I found Small just right. I'm 5'3" 118 lb. and an athletic tomboy build. Patagonia is usually too small in shoulders and too big at waist line. I buy medium jackets from them, but the sweater in Small fits Perfect. The medium was a baggy boyfriend size).

Color isn't what I thought..

I ordered this jacket in the "natural" color for my mom for christmas. I was disappointed when I opened it because the color was primarily gray and somewhat dark than in the photo. With that being said the style and comfort was still excellent and my mom tells me that it is incredibly warm.

I first tried this sweater/jacket by accident, my best friend let me borrow it while we out because I was cold. As soon as I put it on, I was in love! The fleece inside is so warm and the outside material makes it very versatile to wear with casual or nicer outfits. This sweater is one of the best purchases I have made. Well worth the money! Just watch the size, I am size 6/8 and a large fits me perfectly!

This is my second fleece from Patagonia and I can only recommend it. I use to buy cheaper fleeces but after realizing that they often break or get ugly after only a few month of use I started investing a bit and I wont ever go back. On top of that Patagonia is one of the most sustainable companies!

This is a great product for those of us who would love to wear fleece to work, but need to look a little more polished. The sleeves and length are a little long on me, but the fit is close to the body, which makes the sweater seem more work-appropriate. I'll be order several more as gifts, having admired this on a colleague before buying my own.

I bought blue butterfly and the color is beautiful. The inside fleece is so soft I'd want to wear it on my bear skin! I’m 5’2”, 110lbs; and S fits perfectly except the sleeves are a bit too long for me. I wanted to wear fleece pullover under this item when it is cold but ther is not much room except a tee shirt or a lighter top. I was undecided whether to buy hoody one, but I thought I could wear a nice scarf instead. I’m very satisfied with this jacket and thinking about buying another Patagonia item.

I like this jacket for a few key reasons: It's very versatile and looks good on the town or out in the woods... It's fitted, so it's very flattering and feminine, compared to other fleece jackets that are loose or boxy-looking. It's the only black fleece I've owned that's compatible with pets and their ample fur. A lint roller keeps this jacket looking really nice. (I have three cats, so I definitely know what I'm talking about!)

I absolutely love this sweater! I actually saw a friend wearing this sweater and had to have it. The knit material is nice because it's different from the standard fleece look and feel. The color selection is great too. I'd say that's the only drawback is the price -- I'd buy another if it weren't for that. In terms of fit, I'm 5'7" 130# and the Small fit well -- long enough in the arms and torso.

Admittedly, I am a jacketaholic. I own a ridiculous number of jackets for someone who lives in San Diego. But, my addiction validates my opinion that this is truly a fantastic jacket. It's called a sweater but its truly a fleece that barricades a good bit of wind and is snuggly warm. This fleece is very flexible for its warmth, unlike the R4 or something a bit more substantial for significantly cooler temps. That said, this fleece does offer solid warmth-great for 50-60 deg weather. I am 5'8" and 135 with longer arms so I wear a M in Patagonia, this M fits semi-fitted in the body. Length hits mid bum, and sleeves hit about 2 inches past my wrist--perfect. I highly recommend this style for cool So Cal winter nights or crisper fall days back East.

I just received my Better Sweater from the friendly FedEx man and I had to jump online to write a review ASAP. This is the most comfortable, warm, and good-looking sweater that I own! It's a stylish sweater on the outside with all the character and comfort of a fleece on the inside. It's a slim fit, actually, so it doesn't layer well, but it doesn't need it. Serious warmth the moment you pop it on and zip it up.

I've been wanting one of these jackets for a while and finally got mine. It's my go to sweater. They're warm, cozy and great for hikes and look great on everyone. They are definitely NOT windproof or waterproof as it is just a sweater, but it works well as an under layer.

I have been using Patagonia gear for 15+ years and this is one of my favorite items. They have taken their great quality and comfort and made a fantastic update to a classic fleece. The slim fit cut is modern and flattering; it is just as appropriate running errands around town as it is a technical layer. The side zip pockets (and one on arm) are useful and are lined with the same warm inner fleece layer as the body of the jacket. This jacket also hits just below the hips on me which is very useful for most activities, i never feel like i am tugging at its hem. All said, everyone in my family has one (or a variant) of the Better Sweater line, you cannot go wrong with such a versatile piece.

i found the better sweater to be a very attractive casual jacket but probably not one that i would take into the woods. the look is excellent and it would probably be great for wearing around town but ultimately i was looking for something a little more technical. great product overall but not quite what i was looking for.

I've been looking for a full zip sweater with pockets for some time and was excited when I found this one. However the collar stands up too tall and chafe my neck and the sleeves were too long, which is very unusual as i have very long arms. The zipper puckered in the center, not laying flat. Lastly, the arms were too tight making it hard to wear long sleeved tops underneath. Had to return.

I have had this jacket for several months and I love it. I normally wear a small but ordered a medium so I could wear sweatshirts under it if I needed extra warmth. It looks great and fits well. Great jacket for cool nights or early mornings or for winter months if used as sub layer

I was looking for a sweater/fleece that could stand up to a day's weather in the Colorado Rockies (you can compare it to a moody teenager) without having to sacrifice looks. The Better Sweater is it! You can wear it under a ski jacket or by itself when you're running around town or hiking. I was a little skeptical that the jacket would keep me warm since it is super lightweight (and I'm extremely cold natured), but I've worn it over just a tee in 20 degree weather and been perfectly fine! While not completely windproof, it does hold up in light breezes. For anyone stuck on what size to get- I am 5'3, 125 and have pretty broad shoulders, so I ordered a medium. It is the perfect length for my shoulders and arms, however it is pretty loose everywhere else, and the bottom hits right below my hip bones. The small definitely would be a better fit if I was only going to wear thin shirts underneath, but I love to layer so it works out. Hope this helps!

This sweater is truly the most genius invention ever. When they say soft fleece inside, they really mean it. It is incredibly soft, like your very nicest fleece jacket, while the outside is a cardigan sweater. I absolutely love it. I am struggling to resist ordering a second one in another color. The one thing that is a little odd is the brightness of the colors. Just beware that they are much brighter than seems typical. Somehow the heathering and the trim details manage to make it look less bright once the sweater is on, but my first thought out of the box was: whoa, the color is just too bright. It took me a little time to convince myself that they looked great. This sweater is also nice and thick and warm. It is slightly fitted which is nice.

I own a lot of patagonia jackets and each one has its own special purpose for weather or travel, and its own level of comfort, but I bought this one especially for spring and summer because it seems to fit the bill for both versatility and style. I love the colors and love that its warm enough to wear on its own but also light enough to pack away for later use. Can't wait to break it in. The only thing is that the shape is a little stiff at first but loosens up with wear.
