Toasty when the weather turns cold
December 18, 2011

Bought these for my college-student daughter at school in Mass. Word back from her is that this long underwear from Patagonia is perfect as a base layer when the temperature drops! Getting ready to order more for the winter. Definitely recommend!

These leggings fit very low (and hang low) on the hip area. Otherwise, they are true to size and very toasty. I can ride my bike in just this layer on a 30 degree day and be perfectly warm. I wish they fit better and didn't hang so low though. Overall, good pick, especially if you are using them as an unseen base-layer.

Great comfort and durability. Color was a little off as compared to the long sleeve crew top of the same color though. I have Patagonia midweights from 15 years ago that are still like new.

warm but loose!
February 06, 2011

I'm a size 6 and chose the small size but it's still so loose around the hips, thighs, and calves that the material clings to my dress pants. I now use them underneath jeans instead, and it really keeps me warm. I'm planning to buy another one but this time XS.

Great base layer
November 28, 2012

Other than being a little low slung, these are a perfect base layer for colder days on the slopes. Great fit, flat seams, perfect weight. At 5'9" and 145, the med fits perfectly.

Good for winter activities
April 21, 2011

This layer, the Cap 3, will be good for high activity in bitter cold, or more leisurely activity in cool weather. I am right there with her, she looks great, and they are warm and shapely too! Having already washed them once, I'll say we simply hung them up (do not machine dry these) and they were dry within minutes. Niceness!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

These bottoms run large. Better to order them a size down. Excellent wicking in moderate temperatures. I do think that Capilene 4 will be better and more comfortable for cold weather if you want to feel warmer. Over all, nice made bottoms.

Ok, I guess.
February 08, 2013

This was the first pair of polyester bottoms I ever bought, so I didn't/don't know what to expect. They look well built, they stretch and the waist does not slip. (An issue I read about on some bottoms). They are itchy and I felt like my movement is constricted. I didn't feel as comfortable walking as I usually do. Perhaps I just have to get used to them. I also didn't notice much warmth change. They do help a lot when confronted with wind chill (the tight weave probably has wind resistant qualities), but they don't make your legs toasty like merino wool does. I am not unhappy with them, they are just different, and itchy. Perhaps after a few washes it will get better. Bottom line: If you are used to Merino Wool and don't mind the care requirements, I wouldn't switch.

Pros: Build quality, Cons: itchy, constrictive

Good for winter activities
December 20, 2010

Got these for my wife - she runs dog agility throughout the winter and was looking for something to go under her waterproof pants. Prior to these she used an old pair of silk "long johns". She loves the upgrade. I knew they would work well for her as I have used these as an under wader layer when I fish for years. Can't go wrong with Patagonia!

Pros: Build quality, Performance

really great for all conditions

I wear these pants under almost anything in the winter, snowpants, jeans, or just by itself when I go hiking or cross counrty skiing. I used them when I went to Iceland and they stood up agianst the cold and wind. Highly recommend them!

This new version patagonia Capilene 3 is much better than I thought. Although it fits me a little large, it 's still very comfy and warm. Most of all, it's still excellent in wicking. Of course, it has a high quality, like other Patagonia items. I am very satisfied with it.

Perfect for below-freezing weather
November 25, 2010

I got my first opportunity to try these out during morning temps of 2 degrees this week, and they kept me toasty warm. In black, these are flattering and the medium fits very well. I usually wear size 10 pants, and didn't know whether I'd need a large, but the medium was just fine. These are a great value, and a good investment for this time of year.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, Great value

These are great - they do get warm with significant aerobic activity. But they are the perfect layer for hiking. Allows you to go with a soft shell pant and stay plenty warm like today.
