Great Midweight Baselayer
December 31, 2010

Hands down just a solid baselayer for fall, winter, and spring. Can be worn alone or underneath other layers. My girlfriend loves it!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

so comfy
May 12, 2009

I bought 2 of these shirts for my girlfriend and one for my sister. They love it. They feel true to size and seem to "adapt" to the weather, so you can wear it anytime of the year! My sister likes it as much as her smartwool, but the price is half of smartwool.

Great All Around Cool Weather Top
October 04, 2010

I wear this top for my winter equestrian activities, a stand alone piece which functions just as well as a baselayer. Keeps me warm but wicks moisture away as I exercise. Nice looking, fits well.

Pros: Great design, Performance

Capilene give top notch performance
January 29, 2008

I picked out a Capilene 3 top for my sister. She loves the texture, warmth, color, weight and design. Well worth the money for my sister to be comfortable.

Great
August 09, 2010

This top is super warm, comfortable, light and totally not itchy. The cut is feminine and pretty enough to wear as a regular top to work, dinner, etc. Highly recommend.

Perfect layering tee
January 09, 2010

I work outdoors and the capilene 3 is perfect for layering-not bulky, fits true to size and is built for wear. Great layer for physical working conditions outside. Thank you Patagonia!

Nice
August 15, 2011

Stay out longer and play in the cold with the Patagonia Women’s Capilene 3 Crew. This long-sleeve, über-warm shirt adds crucial warmth to your layering system for wicked cold days on the hill. This sweet base layer fights odors with an all-natural Gladiodor odor treatment, wicks moisture, and dries quickly so you’re comfy all day long.

Great material for outdoor
October 07, 2009

Good fit. Keeps me warm and dries very quickly.

Perfect for someone active
February 08, 2009

This shirt is a perfect layer for me to walk briskly in 20 degree weather in Tennessee. I put a wind break over it and that's all that is necessary. The shirt is very light weight and allows freedom of movement. I don't feel weighted down. Worth the price.

Excellent baselayer but not for extreme cold
May 30, 2010

I love all things Patagonia and I stand by their trusty baselayers. However, I recently took this on a winter trip to Europe and unfortunately there was an extreme cold snap (about 0 to -5 F) and it was not enough even with multiple layers. Although I think only a heavy down jacket would have kept me warm.

They are soft and easy to care for. I also used them for cover up over my swimwear for California Beaches.

Layer it or wear alone
January 18, 2010

Comfy, quality fabric & great long length, slimming on me. Sleeves are long, but I just push them up so they sit nicely above my hands & look good. I'm a 12 and bought my usual large. It's a bit snug in the arms.. not a problem except for sleeping. If you're between sizes go larger. I wear it out as a shirt & also sometimes under my cap 3 zip neck with the zipper open. Looks terrific & keeps me doubly warm. These dry fast & don't chill me when I sweat. I love my capilene!

Patagonia Sizes Have Changed
March 13, 2012

Bought size Large Capilene Midweight Crews 2 years ago and loved them for backpacking. Patagonia has changed its sizing in the last 2 year. First ordered Large, returned for Medium, returned for small. Small fits great. Love the shirts but all these returns are expensive.

Wonderful Top
January 05, 2008

I even use them as pajamas. I am glad I purchased them.

Comfy with longer cut
May 20, 2009

I bought this shirt as a replacement for an older Capilene layer. I was pleasantly surprised with this new shirt's longer cut, enabling it to be tucked in or worn out, without creating the dreaded exposed lower back! The arms are also cut long enough. Cute style and Patagonia quality. Very pleased.

Excellent layer for cold days
January 22, 2010

I swear by Patagonia capilene-it is the perfect base layer for those days when the wind is present-it definitely takes the chill out the air! All I could ask in addition to this is that there were more colors to choose from!

Year-round Staple
March 08, 2010

My boyfriend and I both love Capilene 3 baselayers--both the tops and bottoms. They insulate well in a range of temperatures, are very packable and the zip neck is especially easy to throw on and off. These have become year-round staples in our active wardrobes, whether it be as baselayer in the colder months or stand alone as it gets more mild. The best part is that they look great for apres as well!

Going to buy another one
November 30, 2008

I love this shirt! It is the best base layer I have ever had. The fit is a tad on the small side but I am usually a medium and the medium fits me fine. Just a little on the form fitting side if anything. I read other reviews that said the shirt was itchy but mine is soft and wonderful!

Headover heels for Capilene 3 !
December 10, 2010

Have been wearing capilene 3 crew neck and turtle necks for 15+ years. They are not bulky and are very warm. I use them to layer under sweaters. If I'am wearing my Patagonia capilene I know I'll be warm. They are my go to staple when the cold weather comes to town. They breathe, and are made exceptionally well. I couldn't do with out them,I'am a patagonia groupie.Forever!!! My only complaint is the arms are long. But I am only 5ft tall and 1201bs.I try to stock up on a sale, they are expensive!

July 10, 2012

It is a great base layer. I 'm planning to use it on my skiing trips. It is very light and soft. I like it very much but I will return it to exchange for size small. I am 5'5" 124 lb and medium size is too big for me.

Versatile Midweight Layer
October 23, 2012

The Patagonia Capilene Midweight Crew neck shirt is a versatile layering garment. I find it perfect for active adventures in the fall and winter. I also use the Capilene Zip T-Neck when it is really cold, or when I am going to be less active. The midweight crew is the perfect base layer for me. It can also be worn as a long sleeve shirt when it is not too cold. Quality it top - as is the case with all Patagonia garments. Try it... you'll like it!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance

Outdoor work-cap is great!
November 27, 2010

I work outdoors for a living-the ability to layer is important-this layer is not bulky, breathes well, and is toasty. Alone the capilene 3 is altogether toasty also. Excellent choice for those who have to deal with the climate.....

Great Layering Top
June 30, 2010

I love this Capilene top. The fit is very trim and flattering. And it makes a wonderful baselayer for very cold or damp days. Alone the crew neck makes a great looking top over shorts, pants or jeans.

LONG Sleeves.
September 25, 2009

Pros: The material is awesome. The color (Pesto - Nile Blue X Dye) is very pretty. Nice longer length will not show back when bending over, but wish it was still an inch or so shorter because it is borderline too long. Cons: LONG sleeves. I am 5'2" and 118 lbs. (pear shaped, so more weight in bottom and thighs) and got this in a size medium since some reviewers said it was tight. Yes it does have a tighter neck hole & in the shoulders, but once on it seems okay. The body is not as snug as most base layers, but if I go down a size, it might be too tight in the neck. The sleeves are ridiculous and meant for a very tall lanky person. I measured to hopefully help other short girls out there. It is a little over 30" from shoulder to cuff (this if for size medium). To visualize this, when I have it on, it completely covers my hands down to the finger-tips. I have to fold over the cuffs and it comes out to be about 4 1/4" too long. Since the bottom of the sleeves are rolled/folded up that much, it gives a very sloppy appearance. If I push the sleeves up, they just fall down and also looks sloppy so folding is the only solution (or hemming it myself). Not a problem under a jacket or on the slopes, but if I wanted to wear this out in public as a stand-alone, it would look too sloppy. Patagonia, please make this in a more petite version!!!

Great base layer.

Capilene 3 baselayer
May 21, 2011

I pull this baselayer out on days when I know it's going to be cold. At first the fabric feels a little strange but you grow to appreciate the functionality you get out of it. Additionally, if you are between sizes, as with most other Patagonia clothes, size up.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance

Warm but Lightweight, (runs small on size)
May 19, 2009

This crew shirt is well-made, comfortable. The fabric is very lightweight but warm. The size runs a bit trim - arm length is fine but I am usually a size 10-12, and comfortable in Larges, but this shirt does run on the close-fitting side. Worth the price!

Great Base Layer
November 26, 2010

This top is not as heavy as I feared it might be. The one from last season fits snug (I think the 2010-2011 is different and improved). The one I ordered was WAY smaller than normal and I had to exchange it. Plus the fabric doesn't give or feel as soft ast the newer version. Still it was a great value and I'm enjoying it so far.

way too small
September 29, 2010

I checked the size chart and ordered appropriately and I could barely get this shirt on! Way too tight in shoulders and chest.

Pros: Build quality, Cons: Bad design

Not enough stretch
January 20, 2010

I tried the Capilene 3 Crew and although it fit ok, the lack of stretch made it feel too constricting. It wasn't skin tight, but it didn't move with me. It was also hard to get over my head since the neck didn't stretch. I'll stick with my Capilene 4 zip neck.

comfortable and warm

Feels great. I wore it recently when sledding with my daughter and it kept me nice and toasty - couldn't believe how great it felt. Love it.

Great Product
November 12, 2009

I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a nice base layer, nothing too warm but it is a bit thicker. It is made well, is great for layering. I wear a size 12 and the L was perfect!

The Patagonia Capilene 3 crew is a joy to wear. The fit, combination of colors and attention to detail make it a favorite for me. The fit is ample and long, perfect to wear over tights or action slacks. Altrec offered a special deal and the price was right!

Great Base Layer
March 17, 2011

I purchased these for my wife to tends to be cold when we go to the cabin in the winter. She wore these non-stop, including for our outing in the snow. She said the base layer felt light, even under jeans. She slept in them comfortably and said they could also easily be worn as a single layer. Quality has been holding up nicely with washing for a few months now.

Pros: Performance, Ease of use

cozy baselayer, smaller sizing than capilene 1 & 2
August 16, 2009

Love the longer cutting as the shirt stays tucked in, and the material is opaque enough to wear on its own around town. I wear Small in long-sleeved Capilene 1 & 2, but had to size up to Medium on this Capilene 3 top as it was too tight (neck and lats).

In between sizes?
October 02, 2008

Great warm shirt. As far as sizing, if you are debating between a smaller or larger size-- I went smaller (because I am in between small and medium) and found the neck and arms a little snug. I'm hoping as a layer the snug may turn out to be a good thing.
