Not so great
April 20, 2012
I have several of these hoodies and love them. The Pearl color combination was not great. The neon green is not flattering. The hoodie takes on more of an athletic look because of the contrasting colors rather than a stylish look. I was thrilled to get this on sale, but unfortunately I have to pay for shipping now to return it. I can't wait to see what next season's colors will be.
Great

This jacket is very warm for its weight. It is warmer than the pull over capilene and can be easily regulated because of the full zip. Also, it is really soft which is an extra bonus. :)
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useBy far, the #1 Go-To Winter Hoodie in my closet.

I should start by saying that Patagonia's products have yet to fail me, and I own several (definitely looking to obtain more- there will never be 'enough') pieces of their summer and spring gear. This was my first winter purchase from them, but certainly not the last. I live in New Hampshire, and in the mountains, the weather can be quite unpredictable. Warmth is a top safety concern, right up there with whether or not my repel line is properly anchored. The Capilene 4 Hoodie is a secure base that your other layers can't be held up by. I layer this with a tank underneath, and my hooded Nano Puff over it, and I'm warm as toast in -10F... and I used to tend to run cold. ha! No more. It has thumb-loops (which obviously gets Awesome Points) that not only make it so there is no chance of your sleeves bunching up with your other layers; they act as full length warmers. Girls, it comes with the warmest, nearly 'fingerless glove' length hand and wrist space imaginable, and don't worry about the fabric piling from wearing it over your hands, because it doesn't. This fabric cannot get a 'pull' in it. The darn thing is practically impermeable. Another bonus? You don't sweat in it at all. The wicking is excellent for high levels of exertion and the capilene fabric is silky smooth on the outside, and super soft against the skin. Any wind that gets through it's impossibly tight weave seems to be warmed before it gets to your body. It's like wearing a soft, light, and ultra thin wetsuit... in town. If you've purchased hoodie after hoodie- waiting to find that 'perfect' go-to for your closet- your search is over; functional and fashionable to boot, welcome to the Capilene 4.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, wicked warm, super lightbest hoody ever

Sleek & sweet definitely describes the Patagonia Cap 4 Exp hoody. I now own 5 of these jackets! It started with the Velocity hoody which was similar and now the Capilene 4 Expedition. First of all, the colors are always stunning. More importantly, the longer length (just below the hip) keeps the cold out and provides the sleek look. The arms are long, but that is a good feature in my opinion. The arms can be pulled higher if thumbholes get in the way. I get more compliments wearing this hoody than anything else. Most times I wear alone over a t-shirt and that is great. Using under a parka is perfect when more warmth needed. I usually wear small in Patagonia and the small works for me (5'4, 120) w/o being tight (fitted but not tight).
Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of useWonderful fit!

I have been looking for the perfect fleece--long torso, hood, long arms with thumb holes, super warm--for about a year. This is it! The fit is WONDERFUL! It's long on your torso so you don't get any cold drafts, and the hood fits snugly. If anything, the arms are a little too long, so if that bothers you, then you might want to get a size down. The only thing I can't speak to is how warm it is--it hasn't dropped below 70 since I bought it, so I haven't tried it for heat. I'm 5'7" and 125, and the small fits great.
Pros: Great design, PerformanceGreat jacket

This is a great jacket. It is comfortable and flattering. The only thing I would change is the thumb holes. When it is cooler, they are great because they help to keep your hands warm, but they look a little strange when you push up your sleeves.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useTHE BEST!

I am thoroughly enjoying this jacket/baselayer. I never ever want to take it off. The inside is nicely lined with soft fleece and the outer fabric is smooth and non-pilly. I really love the cut on my body and the length of this piece. Wore it touring at Rainier last weekend and it kept me nice and warm the entire time. You will not regret this purchase ever!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceGreat insulating layer
December 01, 2010
This is yet another fantastic product from Patagonia. I was kept quite warm at alpine elevations with this and a t-shirt. The interior is very soft and fleecy. It seems very sturdy as well; I had to do some bushwhacking and came out of the woods with no tears or snags. If the weather became frigid or windy, all I'd need was an outer wind shell or insulated parka, depending on the conditions. Highly recommended!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAwesome Purple
September 13, 2010
First of all, this new purple that Patagonia has been introducing this fall is awesome! Maybe a little too awesome, as now I unexpectedly have added both this Cap 4 Exp Weight Hoody and the R3 Hi-Loft Hoody to my closet because I couldn't resist the purple. I am extremely pleased with both. The Cap 4 Exp Weight reminds me of the Patagonia Velocity Hoody that I have from a couple seasons back. It has a great density to it while being lightweight, and has a flattering long and lean fit. It's also very flexible and cozy--I love the thumbholes. I can say with confidence that I will be utilizing this quite a bit for the upcoming Montana winter.
great layer!

This is a great addition to my layering system. It is fleecy and cozy, but not too thick, so it will pack down nice and small. It does fit a bit big in the torso, I will definitely get a size smaller when I order another one. I hope they get more colours in soon!
