Description

Layer up in the Women's Capilene 4 Expedition Weight Zip Neck from Patagonia when winter turns snarly. This zip-neck is designed to make regulating your internal climate easy when you're on the move. Streamlined "barely there" seams cause no chafe while providing a tailored, trim fit. An angled, low-profile zippered chest pocket holds lip balm or MP3 player and can be easily accessed beneath bibs, waders or pack straps. The extra tail length keeps the heat in and the elements out. Made of 50% recycled (and 100% recyclable) polyester from Patagonia's Common Threads Recycling Program, with a Gladiodor™natural odor control finish. Imported. Common Threads Recycling ProgramResearch shows that the environmental impact of recycling worn-out Capilene base layers into new polyester fiber is significantly lower than making that same fiber from virgin materials. Taking into account that worn-out garments are diverted from trash incinerators, making new polyester fiber from recycled garments results in an energy savings of 76% and a CO2 emissions [greenhouse gasses] reduction of 71%, versus creating that fiber from new raw material. Capilene® Core Performance®Capilene base layers afford quick-drying, next-to-skin moisture management for all activities in all conditions ? from high-altitude bivies to sun-soaked water sports.

So comfy!
January 09, 2012

This top is super warm, is long enough in the body and arms, and has those great thumb holes. I'm 5'6" 115 lbs and I have a small that fitted but not tight. I've worn it running on cold days and plan to use it skiing.

Warm and comfortable
November 14, 2011

After tent-camping for a week in the Smokies in early/mid November, I was so very glad that I had the Cap 4 baselayer!! It got down to 20 degrees outside and 32 degrees inside the tent. I wore the baselayer to sleep and then, layered my hiking clothes over it in the mornings and I stayed warm and toasty. Soft and comfortable, NOT bulky....easy to layer over. Well-made and good fit. Highly recommend for cold weather.

Good for layering or standalone.

I like this for layering when I really need the warmth if I'm going to be sitting in the cold. Or it works well for an outer layer for running or other active sports.

I bought this for work in the winter time. It's amazing!! I'm pretty sure I wore it every day! Even after 5 months of wear an tear every day, it still looks brand new. I love how warm it is, yet it's not bulky.

Great gift
May 16, 2011

Purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend. She has been incredibly happy with this versatile piece. It is her go to layer when snowboarding or hiking in cold conditions. Not surprisingly, this Patagonia baselayer is costly but comes with exceptional performance and build quality. Stylish and functional, highly recommended!

My daughter loves this Cap 4! She has the black one, and the vibrant seam design look great on her. The material has a smooth feel and the lining is soft and warm. Also it is light, much lighter than I expected. So far one of our favorite base layers.

Extremely warm

This is the ultimate base layer. I've bought lots of other linter base layers and this one beats them all. It's super light weight and excellent construction. Fit is generous and long enough to tuck in. Looks even better in person.

no zip chest pocket :(
February 01, 2011

I really did love this cap4 and wanted to keep it, (given past experience with Patgonia's excellent construction, quality, and performance), but it didn't have the zip chest pocket as described...and that's the main reason I ordered it, (so I only gave it 4 stars). I have a few R1 Flash pullovers from Patagonia that have a zippered chest pockets which I rely on to stash iPhone, $$, chapstick, etc. Since Patagonia no longer has those zippers on the Women's R1's, I was really psyched to see a pocket on this one, but not so.

Great item!
December 28, 2010

Love the feel and fit of these Capilene 4 1/4 zips! Perfect for layering with a light capilene underneath. A shell goes on easily over the top, and the 1/4 zip allows for temperature regulation as needed. I actually needed the medium and I'm 64 inches, 135, muscular build.

Bomber expedition layer
December 22, 2010

I lived in this layer for 3 months while on an expedition in B.C. Stayed snag free even when bushwacking, no tears or wear marks! Keeps its shape and everthing washes like new when you get back to the front country, works awesome for running around town and taking the dogs out. Totally worth every penny.

Even better than than ever!
December 14, 2010

I got the green/blue one. This is warm, comfortable, and outstanding! I had a capilene 4 from a couple of years ago so I was able to compare the differences. This years expedition weight is much more warmer than my older version. The green/blue or the purple version is more vibrant so it'll also look great in photos while climbing, hiking or any other activities. Plus it just looks great. This layer has great stretch and durability along with the Patagonia quality behind it. The I'm 5'3" and 125lbs and I bought a XS. It's more of a regular fit for me since I expected it to be slim fitted but still great.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
