Love it with my R1
January 22, 2011

I was surprised to love it so much- it's just a vest, right? So light, but you realize you're plenty warm! Nice zipper pocket on the inside and I'm thinking that's worth spending a few extra bucks when I'm using it for horseback riding. I love the cheesy match with my R1 pieces. Look and feel put together that way!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, lightweight warmth, Cons: Cost

So comfortable
July 13, 2011

I love wearing the vest inside the house; just the right amount of warmth. Outside I layer it with a shell and love the light weight feel and freedom of movement. For me the large size runs quite a bit larger than the medium size which I have in another color. I am 5'4" and usually wear a 10 or 12. Excellent quality and I would recommend to a friend.

March 11, 2011

Love the new colors. The fit is great and the light weight gives the illusion of not wearing a vest. Great for keeping out the early spring chill. The length was a little shorter then expected. But it is still a great vest and worth buying.

a great gift!!
January 31, 2012

I purchased this patagonia down vest as a present for my mother. My husband and I already have many items in our winter wardrobe by patagonia, which is why i choose this brand for my mother. The colour selection is great, and the fact that it is so warm, but lightweight is definately a positive for this garment. It is down filledbut not too puffy, great cut for ladies, very flattering. This is the first patagonia product my mother has owned, and she is thrilled with it. The sizing was correct, as we went off the sizing chart. Would highly recommend this as a staple part of a girls closet!!

My go-to jacket. I wear it to do errands, in the car on my way to the slopes or around the house for additional warmth. The vest is so light and form fitting. Not puffy at all. Very happy with my purchase!

Patagonia does it again.
December 26, 2010

Surprising warm for how thin it is. Really like the lack-of-bulk. Layers really well under a light jacket. The construction is really good too... no loose threads and sloppy stitching. The medium fit my daughter (athletic 5'11" build) just right.

Great wear
December 29, 2011

Everybody probably loves Patagonia down sweaters and vests as much as I do, but perhaps you don't know how well they wash. I was initially concerned about the care of a down item, but after several years of washing my husband's down sweaters, I realized how well they turn out as long as you follow the directions. So, this Christmas I bought a white down sweater vest for my daughter-in-law. Though white will get dirty, I was able to have absolute confidence that this item will survive multiple washings.

Great vest, can not go wrong with Patagonia quality and style! I am 6ft tall, usually wear size 8 or M, found it a bit loose if wearing over a shirt only but length is surprisingly OK.

Lighest and warm!
December 12, 2009

It is not easy to have a warm but not bulky vest. This is it. It is the lightest, least bulkiest, and warmest vest I ever had.

I love this vest!
January 06, 2010

When I first opened the package, I was a little concerned that this vest wouldn't be warm enough because it is so lightweight and non- bulky. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised! It keeps me very warm and cozy without making me feel like the Michelin Man. I'm considering ordering another one. I highly recommend it!

Very lightweight, very warm
October 02, 2007

Great vest! Very warm and flattering--it's the only vest I've tried that doesn't make you look bulky. I found the sizes to be true, I wouldn't size up, otherwise it will be too big and let cold air inside. Great for layering.

December 18, 2007

Compared this vest with the North Face 700 vest. Patagonia has a better fitted look and was not as bulky

Great Vest
August 26, 2009

This is by far the best vest and I have tried quite a few! It's very warm, not too bulky, very soft and easy to travel with. I would highly recommend this vest.

my fave piece
April 18, 2009

This is my favorite piece for the spring and fall. It is a great travel piece also. Compared to the North Face equivalent, this one was more fitted and less bulky, yet seemed warmer. Some people may not like the tighter fit though. I would suggest washing the vest with the delicate setting. After two years of regular wear and wash, the down started to come out at the seams. I've owned a lot of down jackets, vests, etc, so this was something I expected. Patagonia gave me a refund without a problem. They would have exchanged the item except that it was the off-season, so the vest was out-of-stock. I highly recommend this to people who are looking for form and function in a vest.

October 30, 2012

But my new Patagonia goose down sweater vest is keeping me nice and toasty! This is a layering piece for sure. Easy to pack and take on the road, the thin appearance is quite deceiving because you don't expect it to be such a warm and versatile garment. Waterproof AND windproof. Who could ask for more.

Great buying decision
March 30, 2011

My new vest is exactly what I was looking for. It is mid weight so perfect for going into spring. It is not bulky like many down vests; doesn't crowd my neck but can zip up to keep warm. Has a slight fit to the body so I like the profile. The color I received was exactly the color I saw on the screen. I am getting compliments every time I wear it.

short, boxy vest
November 01, 2012

I am typically a fan of patagonia vests/jackets. This one is very warm. However, the only issue is that is it somewhat short and boxy. It seems to run slightly large in the waist. I am 5'11' and I ordered a size large. It came to just below my belly button, which is typically shorter than I like to wear jackets. The color I ordered was the birch so another downside was that you could see the down feathers through the material light fabric.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: short fit

Super Lightweight, Incredible Warmth
March 12, 2007

This is a super lightweight vest, but holds an incredible amount of warmth. The vest tends to run a little small in length and through the bust. If you are a tall woman or have a large bust, you might want to size up. The lightweight outside fabric, is a somewhat see-through. You will be able to see the feathers in the colored vests. If you are looking for a lightweight warm vest for backpacking or sitting at a belay station, this is the vest. Will pack down to nothing and will not add weight to your pack.

I heart this vest!
November 12, 2007

My sister had this vest in green circa last year's collection and I was constantly "borrowing" it and conveniently forgetting to give it back. This fall I was determined to save my dollars and buy one myself. I was disappointed that this year's colors were not the same as last years - this year's are muted, not as vibrant, but nonetheless, I bought this vest in black. AND I LOVE IT!! I wear it everywhere as well and I'm embarrassed to admit it, but sometimes I like to fall asleep in it. I have gotten many compliments and look forward to wearing it all winter. My only reservation is that it would be nice if it had a hood. This was also my first time ordering from Altrec.com and I had a no-hassle ordering process and who doesn't like free shipping! I will definitely shop here again!

Best down vest
December 21, 2011

The patagonia vest is one of my favorite items of clothing that I own. It is so light and versatile, I can wear it on so many different occasions and it looks good and keeps me warm. It does fit a bit small. Im 5'3 and I usually wear medium in most clothes, but the small fits me best. Perfectly actually. It wasnt cheap, but I would never regret purchasing the down vest as it really is an awesome piece of clothing.

Very warm
May 02, 2011

This is a very lightweight warm vest that I've worn almost everyday, everywhere. I may even get a second one. The downside of this, as all down insulation clothing, is that when you wash it, the down clumps together. I'll have to try the tennis balls next time I wash/dry it. I didn't dry it with tennis balls, so I'll have to try that next time and see what happens.

Pros: Performance

I have owned the down sweater jkt for a few years and this vest is an added bonus to my Patagonia pieces. It's been great when our days here in the northeast get above 35 and it feels like a hit wave and this becomes my go to vest. I am looking forward to bring along on my tuna trips this summer.

Good vest
September 24, 2011

I would recommend this vest to a friend. Fits a bit large, maybe order a size down. It's also not particularly long in the torso, if you like that. I had a couple feathers come out right away but it seems to have settled. I wear this vest all of the time - it's warm, comfortable, unobtrusive during outdoor activity, and pretty.

Pros: Performance, Ease of use

Fabulous!!
April 27, 2008

True to Patagonia's name and reputation, this vest lasts and lasts. It's quite warm but also works well on windy spring days. The down is comfortable but not bulky and the cut is perfect. I've had mine for several years and it looks as good now as when I bought it. Highly recommended!

The perfect accessory! Practical and good looking.

January 08, 2011

This vest seems (so far) to be very well made and offers much warmth while taking up little space. I wear over a sweater, under a Barbour jacket, dress coat, or other down coat, or indoors while keeping the temp low and having great freedom of movement. 2 hand pockets, drawcord, and inside pocket provide plenty of places to stow your things. I wear size 6 or 8 in sweaters and small fits great. Fit is stylish and feminine for this sort of garment, not bulky at all, and I have received numerous compliments. This is not an inexpensive vest, but you will get plenty of use out of it.

Great all around vest
March 07, 2013

I love vests and own many in different colors, but this Patagonia Down Sweater Vest is my favorite! It's the perfect weight, warm, fitted and not too bulky. The way the down channels are angled (check out the front and back panels) and how they have designed the side panels to be less puffy, makes this vest more slimming than others I've tried. Great to wear with jeans on the weekends and I've paired it with casual dresses and skirts to work. Looks great no matter what you wear it with!

Very strange fit on my broad shoulders - returned
April 19, 2013

I was unreasonably excited to get this vest. I had been coveting it. But, at some point, I must just accept that Patagonia makes clothes for small women - it always looks great on them! On me (5'10", 145 lbs), everything has the strangest fit. Pants are always too short, sleeves are too short, shirts are too short at the waist. This vest looks ridiculous on me (size medium). There is elastic at the armholes, which forces the vest to rise up around my shoulders. My boobs are about 2" down from where they are supposed to be in the vest and the vest rides up way high around my waist. If I put my hands in the pockets and pull it down, it fits normally and looks pretty good. However, it just isn't designed for broad shouldered and tall women. It is also much boxier than I had hoped. Getting a large would not help the situation as I'd be able to fit another human in the vest alongside me. I hereby accept that while I love Patagonia as a company, it just doesn't work for me (until another super cute color/item comes out and I'll undoubtedly try again and pay for the return shipping again). As per all Patagonia products, super high quality. I'm sad.

This vest has really great tailoring and makes you look feminine and stylish, not bulky. I have it in black, and it's quite chic. It's the one item of clothing I take with me everyday, since I never know where my day will lead. Perfect for Texas
November 17, 2010

I purchased this vest simply because I loved the way it looked. We don't get too cold in my region of Texas and so I don't need a super cold weather coat. This is perfect for me to keep my core warm and my arms unencumbered without being too bulky. I love the slim fit. My review is only one star short because the vest I received had a small hole in a seam, allowing feathers to escape. I am anxiously awaiting my replacement vest from Altrec.

Light, Warm and Flattering
March 12, 2007

The Patagonia Womens Down Sweater Vest has been a great addition to my outdoor clothing list. It is light weight to stuff into my hydration pack, and warm enough to wear over light weight underwear during breaks. Ok even great to wear in the office under the AC Vent. The outer rip-stop fabric is durable, worked great at a dog park where several dogs jumped up to say hello. No snags which was great! Just note this is a functional piece made out of 10 denier mini rip-stop so the feathers WILL SHOW thru the material in Orange Jolt and Vernal Green. So note it is a function piece!!!! I actually like the fact you can see the darker feathers thru the material and like the trade off for a light weight piece. If you want more fashion then check out the Patagonia Womens Down Vest.......

Great Patagonia Quality
April 02, 2011

I have the Patagonia Down Sweater (jacket) in an XS. I decided to order the vest in a small, so I'd have room to put it over heavy layers. Like the jacket, it runs large, but the cinch cord at the waist helped to adjust it. The vest fit about 2" shorter than my jacket though, which is strange, since it's a size bigger. In the end I decided I didn't want such a short vest, so I returned it. But if a short vest is what you are looking for, then I would definitely recommend this one. It's great quality and warm considering how lightweight it is. If Patagonia makes it longer in the future, I will buy it again.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: Cost

Perfect down vest ever!
September 29, 2009

This vest is one of my best pieces I've purchased. Extremely light, warm, and super stylish. It goes superbly well with casual outfits or dressier pieces (I even wear them with slacks!). I am thinking about buying another one in a different color.

Perfect fit
December 29, 2010

I bought this vest for my wife for an Xmas present. I bought based on prior Patagonia purchases -their entire product line is top quality and lasts forever. This vest has an athletic fit and suits her perfectly. The only negative is the color - she wanted it in white, but you can see dark feathers in the down through the white vest. Not sure if it's supposed to be all white down feathers in the white jacket or not!?!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value, Cons: color

Awesome vest
October 02, 2009

I bought this vest for my wife. She has wanted a down vest for years, but been reluctant since most make you look like the Michelin Man. This vest fits incredibly well, is perfect warmth for the Pacific Northwest, and the Patagonia quality speaks for itself.

Great all purpose vest
November 21, 2009

Purchased this vest for my wife. She wears it all the time. She likes the fact that it is very light weight and warm. Wears it shopping with a light weight sweater or top and stays comfortable both inside and outside. Great gift for someone who doesn't like the bulk of a jacket.

Cute Vest
March 09, 2011

I like this product - however I wish it was a bit longer in the back. I like to layer it with leggings and I wish it covered and kept a bit more of my body warm - and came down a bit longer. I am a fan of Patagonia Down products and this one does not disappoint. I would recommend it to a friend. Watch the fit on these - make sure the measurements work for you.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use

It is the just good best in autumn.
October 06, 2010

It is the best for the trekking of autumn. A functional, price low, too very good shopping was done. Because the correspondence of the shop was also good, it buys it many times. This best is recommended of this year.

Pros: Great design

The women's down sweater vest is the perfect item of clothing for in between seasons ... When it might turn a little cold, but you don't want to wear a full jacket. Also it packs up into itself so that you can throw it into your bag, just in case.

This down sweater vest is extremely light weight yet cozy warm. Beautiful vest...just be sure to size up if you want anything more than a thin layer under it...

warm, sweet looking, the perfect addition for cool days
October 15, 2007

I love it, when I first got it I thought it wouldn't be warm enough because it is so light and thin, but it has proved me wrong and I wear it every day. it keeps me at the perfect temp. (not too hot, not too cold)I also got the orange and the color sort of threw me off at first because it was so brilliant and you can see the feathers through the fabric, but I get loads of compliments on it's appearance - perhaps they have worn off on me because now I think the color is great; I just love wearing it.

great vest!

This is my favorite of several 800 down vests! It has a nice fit, thankfully not puffy or bulky; 800 down provides lots of warmth. It has a bit more room in each the channel for lofting than my North Face 800 down vest which as less depth per channel, and have found it to be warmer than that one. I own two of these.

Nice Vest
March 14, 2011

I like this vest but I think I wanted something a bit more fitted. It seemed a little on the shorter side. Color is great and so is the vest but for me, I need material that is not so slippery as I am always holding a baby!

Another Great Patagonia Product
November 26, 2012

I have been wanting to buy this vest for some time, but held off due to price. Just purchased it on sale and am so thankful I did. If I had known I would love it so much I would have purchased it a long time ago at full price. I spend a fair amount of time in CO and need a layer that works well with transitional weather. This vest does the trick. It keeps your core super warm but isn't bulky at all. I am normally a S/M in Patagonia products and purchased this vest in a M. It fits over multiple layers well and still looks fitted enough after sinching the waist.

Favorite thing to wear
April 14, 2011

This down sweter vest fits great. Was better than anticipated. I have worn Patagonia items for over 25 years. This is one of the best items they have ever made. The quality is suberb. It is light weight and warm, but not too warm. Have been wearing it for powerwalking and just to go to work early in the morning. I am looking forward to layering next winter for skiing & snowshoeing.

Comfy down sweater
January 26, 2011

I have bought a few down-type vests and although the cost of this one is on the higher side, the fabric is softer than many of the others and it is a little more tailored (and therefore less bulky on the hips). I wear it on its own or under another jacket. I wish that the color selection was a little broader, but am certain that next year will bring new colors.

Awesomely versatile - and cute!
March 08, 2010

I love this vest. I can wear it with everything... when it's not quite cold enough for a jacket but a want a little something to keep me warm. I got in in the real red and love it (and I'm not usually a red person). Gotten tons of compliments and I'm sure it will last forever.

Fabulous vest for all climates!
March 01, 2010

This vest is the perfect travel vest. I used it on every part of my Belize vacation. I layered it with a sweater for the snowy drive to the airport, wore it on the airplane 9it was chilly and I didn't have to pay for a blanket) and then wore it on several windy evenings while in Belize. It is so light and easy to scrunch up small, that I will take it whenever I travel.

Great vest, super lightweight yet warm. Love the colors that are available. Great to have for fall all the way into winter. Patagonia makes wonderful products.

Function and Style
October 10, 2009

Patagonia has a good thing going with its Down Sweater Vest. Great colors, distinctive style, flattering fit, very compressible, lightweight, and superb core warming are a few of its attributes. I am 105 and 5'6, and the XS fits me perfectly with room for a midlayer or light sweater underneath. The hem falls right at my hip level. It is a perfect length for me, as I do prefer vests longer than waist length. I have several and seem to add a new one every year. It's a bombproof buy!
