Purple Pillow Sweater
April 29, 2011

I'm 5'4", 150 lbs and the ladies Large is a good fit. I had tried on and loved my brother's Men's Medium and I'm thrilled at the fashionable cut and style of my Women's Large. When asked about fit, I found the arm length to be as long as the Men's Medium, which I can accomodate. I refer to the sweater as a purple pillow, a purple down pillow, because when I wear it that's what I feel like I'm surrounded with. Soft, cushy, warm without being overly so, ducky down sweater. I feel chic when wearing it, as it accompanies well many styles of clothing, from skirts, to work pants and jeans.

Storm blue is a beauty!
March 23, 2011

This is a very warm, very light and comfortable jacket. But the color was the attraction. A beautiful low-key blue that is nice in town as well as for sports. (Not wild and aggressive like the turquoise hooded version of winter (which is also very nice in the ice and snow!) I would be happy to wear these light weight, down sweaters (in many colors) forever. I am petite and wear the XS, which is loose and flattering but not overwhelming like down used to be on someone small. (I also like the nano puff pullover for warmer times.)

Perfect for my uses
March 22, 2011

The Patagonia down sweater is perfect for very cold days in coastal California--meaning mid 30s to mid 40's--with a base layer and sweater underneath. I can see wearing it on cool nights later in the year with just a thin sweater underneath. It fits well under a rain jacket, and has roomy arms so a fleece underneath would work. Arms slightly Michelin-man, but the body is sleek and stylish. Nice deep pockets--wish they had fleecy lining, but they're warm enough because of the down. Wish it had a dedicated MP3 player pocket, but it does have an interior zipper pocket (that also serves as a stuff sack). It is light as a feather, will be perfect for summer backpacking in the Sierras. Fully zipped the collar is warm and it's comfortable around my neck. And Patagonia stands behind everything they make. I'm 5'4" and weigh about 135, and the medium fits well.

Great Packable Down Jacket
March 22, 2011

This is a great packable down jacket for light or ultra light weight backpacking. I bought it mostly because I am trying to move to light weight backpacking and tend to get cold. My old down jacket weighted a ton, but this one is so light and packs down to a small ball. Took it snow camping and it did a great job with a rain jacket over the top. If you are trying to go more light weight I strongly recommend this jacket. Also if you buy online you can get a more neutral color than the crazy colors they are selling in the stores.

Super warm and lightweight!
March 14, 2011

I bought the down sweater jacket to wear under my ski shell on really cold days. I couldn't believe how warm it kept me--and I am always freezing! I also slip on the jacket just to head outside, and it's cozy like a blanket, but incredible light. I returned the small for an extra-small, forgetting Patagonia runs big (at least in my experience). I'm 5'3"/115 lbs. It's still not a terrible snug fit, but that's great if you want to wear a couple of layers underneath. I want to buy the hooded version next, because I can imagine how warm that would keep me on windy days. The jacket was surprisingly water-repellent, too, although I wasn't hanging out in the wet snow for that long. Fast-drying, I spot-cleaned a stain, stuck it in the dryer with clean tennis balls for 10 minutes, and was good to go! The cinch-cord on the bottom only tightens on one side; therefore, I have to remember to un-cinch it when I'm done skiing so I'm not walking around with a lopsided hem. No big deal--especially if you don't care about having the jacket wind-tight.

Great coat
March 06, 2011

I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this coat, and I'm really pleased with my decision. The coat has a nice, tailored fit - it's not too bulky so it looks nice while still being very warm. It's lighter weight and comfortable, so it's not the warmest coat out there, but it's very easy to add layers underneath. It's also extremely packable, so if necessary, you can stuff it in your purse. It's also quite comfortable in a range of temperatures, so it's easy to wear and keep on even when I head inside.

I love this jacket! The fit and weight are perfect. Just what I want for X country skiing. But sadly I had to return it and order another color. I ordered the Natural and this is the color I really wanted. But I noticed that the darker down feathers actually show through. I was very surprised given the high quality of Patagonia products. But I have ordered another color because I do love the jacket and the Altrec staff were great as always. I do think that Patagonia needs to look into this problem and I'm sure they will.

Good Purchase
March 02, 2011

The patagonia jacket for women is a great purchase - the jacket is light weight and yet so very warm. I think I however got one of the bad jackets in the batch because mine had a few spots where feathers were coming out and when I would try to release one of the feathers there was a neverending amount of thick feathers sticking out of the jacket. I've exchanged mine for a new one and hope that the quality is a little better. Customer service was fantastic on the phone.

LOVE THE LOOK BUT NOT THE FIT
February 23, 2011

I love the look and feel of this coat ...it is so light weight and comfortable . I am sorry to say though I will be returning as I am not happy with the fit . I am 5'5 130 lbs and the medium is just to big in the sleeves as well as the body . I went to a local store and tried the small but was not happy with that fit either ... boxy looking. I really wish Patagonia would aim for a nicer, more feminine fit ! TO BAD as the coat is really beautiful in the feather grey !

Cons: poor fit

Light as a feather
February 22, 2011

I have three of these - in offwhite, black and red. I have them in size S, M and L. The S and M from different years fit about the same and I am 5'4" and 136lbs. The L, I got big so I could wear a fleece jacket underneath to stay warm. Now, everyone I know who has this jacket, including my husband say it's "toasty" over a shirt. For me, it does not keep me warm. I can wear it in the spring in AK or Winter in Calif (I even wore it in Hawaii in Feb this year) but for the true winter in AK, I needed to layer. Great for travelling since it stuffs into itself (or ziploc bag) and put away while on the plane. Full price is a bit pricey but definitely try it esp when you can get it cheaper here! i gave a 4 for most because it didn't fit all my needs, such as comfort, and also because the stiching on the one I wear most got snagged and now I have a piece of string hanging about 4 inches that I don't want to cut! The down is shifting there, but then I hear Patagonia will mend it for you.

LOVE this down sweater
February 21, 2011

I'm embarassed to say that I'm now up to 4 of these down sweaters. Over the past couple years, I've become a diehard fan of these for warmth, comfort, and style. They seem to fit the bill on cool days as an outer layer and on super cold days as a perfect layer under a shell. I get compliments on the look of them every time I wear them and they're so lightweight that I feel like I'm wearing a warm piece of air.

This coat "sweater" is exactly what I was looking for and the description was very accurate. So feather weight that my husband thought the package was a skein of yarn I had ordered!! The coat is very warm and was put to the test the first night I wore it....stood up to high winds off the lake in Michigan. As in the reviews I read before, the sleeves are plenty long for me, but not bothersome. I have also received several positive comments from friends and family on the appearance. I would definitely recommend this product. Also, this is my first Patagonia purchase.....always bought for my children and they wore like iron, but never made the investment for myself. Soooooooooo glad I did!

She loves it!
February 16, 2011

So I got this as a birthsday gift to a friend that moved from Los Angeles to Tornado Alley in Nebraska, and this winter was harsh, so I ditched the chocolates and flowers and got her something more useful... this Patagonia sweater/jacket! When she got out the box these were her words: "How is this super LIGHT jacket going to keep me warm in this 10 degree weather?!" and then she tried it on and walked home for lunch and her jaw dropped at how warm it was. She loved the "sweater" fit because could use another coat over it if needed. Rain drops beaded off. I got her the fire red and she looks hot in it! I'm getting jelous that she's turning heads out there.

I love this jacket....I live in northern california, and so far have worn it almost every day since I got it in January. It's the perfect weight, not bulky, and almost as warm as my bulkier patagoia down jacket that I don't wear anymore. This jacket is much better for moving around, and feeling feminine. I can easily get a mid-weight sweater underneath it, and I ordered a small. ( I weigh 130)

The Perfect Winter Coat
February 05, 2011

This is the perfect jacket for me. I have been on the market for a down jacket for the past 3 years and, in that time, have bought 4 of them on line and returned each one, with none of them meeting my expectations or, therefore, being quite worth the investment to me. All along, I suspected that The Patagonia Down Jacket was the one for me but was unwilling to pay the full price for it but finally, I just made the investment-- and that’s what it is— and a very wise investment indeed. This is a jacket that will last me my whole life, and I have no qualms or reservations about the fact that it is PERFECT. I received the jacket over a month ago and have hardly been able to bring myself to take it off when I go to bed at night. It leaks the occasional feather, but I've yet to meet a down jacket that does not. I am 5’2” and wear an XS. It’s fit is slim and quite flattering, and yet it offers a truly surprising amount of layering space (I am continually amazed at the layers that I can fit under such a slim looking jacket and somehow keep it looking slim). Of course, the most incredible aspect of this jacket is its warmth to weight ratio, which means that I rarely need any layers at all. I am not sure what law of physics they broke in designing this jacket, but I do know that I, who have always been cold when others are not, am loving winter for the first time in my life. I no longer even hesitate before going outside on a February night to get firewood—I no longer have the fear of being cold—and all thanks to this jacket which can fit easily inside my bag.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, easily layer-able

Highly Recommended for Comfort, Weight
February 02, 2011

In moderate winter climates (>25F), this sweater will keep you WARM. Fit is very comfortable, not bulky in the least, and lightweight. If need be, it can be easily worn as a layer under a shell. I am very sensitive to the cold, and this sweater has been my go-to since it arrived. I am petite-sized (5' 2"), and the XS fits perfectly, although a bit long in the arms. Overall, a very reliable down sweater/jacket, and the light weight is the big bonus.

Great Buy!
January 31, 2011

I love this jacket. I live in San Diego where it gets chilly enough to need a warm jacket. This one fits perfectly - I bought a medium and it has enough room (but not a lot) to wear over a heavy sweater. I thought I might need a small because some of the reviews said it runs large but I find that it's true to size. (I'm 5'7', 133 lbs and size 8) It's lightweight and the purple color (with lavender lining) is gorgeous. I rolled the sleeves a little to show the lavender. I plan to pack it in my suitcase for at trip to Lake Tahoe at the end of the month. It packs easily (you could roll it up) and will be great on long airplane flights when it gets chilly. It's really perfect for almost any trip if you need a lightweight warm sweater.

Down Perfection!
January 28, 2011

This jacket weighs next to nothing and it feels so incredibly comfortable. I bought it for when I go on my power walks. Warm if it is cold out, but if the day gets a little warmer out, the jacket still remains comfortable! And when it is zippered all the way up, the smallest bit of fabric keeps the zipper from flipping up into your face. (Hey, it's the little things right?) It is perfect for travel because it folds into a pocket. What down jacket could you pack in your purse or carry on? I just cannot say enough good things about it!!!

Great jacket!
January 13, 2011

I recently purchased the down sweater, and I love it! I was always wearing a zip up fleece under a shell, and while it kept me warm, I was tired of always dealing with layers. This jacket is as warm as I had hoped, and I'm so happy to be done with the layers! The area where I live has pretty cold winters, with high daytime temps only reaching the high 20's to low 30's recently. I have been wearing this jacket over a couple of layered t-shirts, and it has kept me completely warm. The collar keeps both my neck warm and the wind out, and the sleeves are long enough to pull over my hands. The quality seems to be exactly what you'd expect of Patagonia. I also love that it's nice and warm, but not bulky. I looked at other down jackets, and it was hard to find one that didn't make me look like a marshmallow. This is great, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Luxurious feel
January 11, 2011

I wanted a down jacket and found altrec to have a good selection & return policy. I'm picky about my gear because I'm a wolf watching guide in Yellowstone. Winter is one of our biggest seasons and we are occasionally out in below zero weather. This jacket has really been growing on me, and is my favorite right now (I have several). It works best in a layering system--if its really cold out, you need a shell or second jacket over it b/c its not enough insulation by itself. Sometimes I use a shell over it, and if its less than about 20 degrees, I wear a second insulative jacket over it. I really like Patagonia's sizing--the jacket fits well with a sweater under it (I bought it a little large too). It is such high quality that it feels dreamy on. When I bought this jacket the bottom line was the fit, but knowing Patagonia uses recycled materials was a huge bonus (reduces industrial toxins).

See through???
January 10, 2011

Great company, great performance, but sending this one back...It needs to fit a bit tighter in torso area(but great length in arms!) it's a bit roomy. The real downfall in this item is related specifically to the color I ordered, natural. Specifically, the shell material (natural color) is transparent, so the down and various feather colors are visible through the shell. As a result, it almost appears as though it was washed accidentally with a blue colored item (e.g. blue pen) and damaged! Overall, I was disappointed in fit and lack of attention in design of this particular color(transparency), not performance or quality of use. This is the first time I have EVER had an issue with a Patagonia product- I will continue to patron this brand.

I LOVE this down sweater
December 27, 2010

When we were traveling recently, my friend had one of these Patagonia down sweaters, and she wore it, or had it with her every single day. She says she travels with it all the time, and has used it not only as a jacket/sweater, but as a pillow, sleepwear, and comforter. When we got home, I ordered one, and I LOVE it. I've hardly been parted with it except for sleeping. It has a great temperature range which lets you wear it indoors, and outdoors too. Comfortable to a little below 40 for me.The pockets are perfect. Love the inside one, which will fit a small wallet, so I don't have to carry a purse. I definitely recommend this.

Great down "sweater"
December 05, 2010

I thought the title of this product was a little odd but it's exactly right: a down sweater, not a jacket and certainly not a shell. It's extremely comfortable, fits very well and is stylish. It has a great inside pocket, and it's made in classic Patagonia style, i.e., with attention to detail. I'm 5'8" and 138 pounds, and have rather broad shoulders, and this Medium fit me great. If I put a lot of items in the pockets it poofs out a bit, but it still fits fine, if a tiny bit tight. I wear it over t-shirts as well as over light wool sweaters, and the jacket accommodates all.

Have been wanting a Patagonia Down Sweater for years and finally decided to buy myself one! Missed out on the Seaport color last year, but the Volcanic Blue is just as beautiful. Perfection
November 30, 2010

No complaints on this jacket whatsoever. Over the years my girlfriend has tried several different down sweaters, and none have been quite right until now. The quality is typical Patagonia, which is to say top notch. The warmth is surprising for something this lightweight, and seems decidedly warmer than similar products tried from Marmot and North Face. Great balance overall in sizing, with the torso/body length and the arms being proportional. Overall the jacket is tending toward semi-form fitting, but I would not say overly so or anything qualifying as "fitted" or "athletic", but it's definitely not loose or tended to layer anything very heavy underneath.

Great jacket! Expected Patagonia quality. Used to wear large but due to changes in Patagonia sizing, the medium fit in this jacket. I'm getting lots of compliments on this one!

Great Baselayer with Style.
November 28, 2010

The Patagonia down sweater is very comfortable, stylish, and flattering and you won't look like a geek wearing it. It performs well as a baselayer or kicking around the basecamp because the down insulation is not as thick as a Patagonia down jacket. The down sweater is not waterproof, but it is not intended to perform like a shell. The nylon is thin like many down jackets and a shell would help prevent tears or runs. The sweater is very light and packable and the construction lives up to Patagonia standards.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Comfort: 5 / 5
Durability: 5 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5
Warmth: 5 / 5

Wow! I heard that Patagonia is one of the best but I never experienced it. That jacket/sweater is not only light it is extremly light. It feels like having a shirt on me. It is so warm that in 30F of cold I had only T-shirt under and it was comfortably warm. The shape is really nice too. I look very feminine. So I can give it a 10 of 10!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Addicted to this Jacket!
October 26, 2010

This jacket is a must for your cold weather gear. Let's just say that I have more than one (maybe two or three?!) as I am addicted to this article of clothing. The "sweaters" come in an array of fantastic colors and are oh so soft and WARM! I tend to wear them alone for cold weather excursions around town and when I am on the slopes, I usually layer them with a windstopper under or over it. If it is snowing I wear the jacket under a water proof shell. They are versatile and have so many uses. You can wear them in any and all winter conditions. I know if you purchase this gem of a coat you surely will not be disappointed!

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use
