Great company, great performance, but sending this one back...It needs to fit a bit tighter in torso area(but great length in arms!) it's a bit roomy. The real downfall in this item is related specifically to the color I ordered, natural. Specifically, the shell material (natural color) is transparent, so the down and various feather colors are visible through the shell. As a result, it almost appears as though it was washed accidentally with a blue colored item (e.g. blue pen) and damaged! Overall, I was disappointed in fit and lack of attention in design of this particular color(transparency), not performance or quality of use. This is the first time I have EVER had an issue with a Patagonia product- I will continue to patron this brand.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Bad design, fit-too roomy
Great down "sweater"
December 05, 2010
I thought the title of this product was a little odd but it's exactly right: a down sweater, not a jacket and certainly not a shell. It's extremely comfortable, fits very well and is stylish. It has a great inside pocket, and it's made in classic Patagonia style, i.e., with attention to detail. I'm 5'8" and 138 pounds, and have rather broad shoulders, and this Medium fit me great. If I put a lot of items in the pockets it poofs out a bit, but it still fits fine, if a tiny bit tight. I wear it over t-shirts as well as over light wool sweaters, and the jacket accommodates all.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
I LOVE this down sweater
December 27, 2010
When we were traveling recently, my friend had one of these Patagonia down sweaters, and she wore it, or had it with her every single day. She says she travels with it all the time, and has used it not only as a jacket/sweater, but as a pillow, sleepwear, and comforter. When we got home, I ordered one, and I LOVE it. I've hardly been parted with it except for sleeping. It has a great temperature range which lets you wear it indoors, and outdoors too. Comfortable to a little below 40 for me.The pockets are perfect. Love the inside one, which will fit a small wallet, so I don't have to carry a purse. I definitely recommend this.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Great down jacket
January 08, 2011
I bought this for my wife for Christmas and she loved it so much she bough another for our daughter. It is very warm and will pack very easy and small for camping trips and hikes.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
The Perfect Winter Coat
February 05, 2011
This is the perfect jacket for me. I have been on the market for a down jacket for the past 3 years and, in that time, have bought 4 of them on line and returned each one, with none of them meeting my expectations or, therefore, being quite worth the investment to me. All along, I suspected that The Patagonia Down Jacket was the one for me but was unwilling to pay the full price for it but finally, I just made the investment-- and thats what it is and a very wise investment indeed. This is a jacket that will last me my whole life, and I have no qualms or reservations about the fact that it is PERFECT. I received the jacket over a month ago and have hardly been able to bring myself to take it off when I go to bed at night. It leaks the occasional feather, but I've yet to meet a down jacket that does not. I am 52 and wear an XS. Its fit is slim and quite flattering, and yet it offers a truly surprising amount of layering space (I am continually amazed at the layers that I can fit under such a slim looking jacket and somehow keep it looking slim). Of course, the most incredible aspect of this jacket is its warmth to weight ratio, which means that I rarely need any layers at all. I am not sure what law of physics they broke in designing this jacket, but I do know that I, who have always been cold when others are not, am loving winter for the first time in my life. I no longer even hesitate before going outside on a February night to get firewoodI no longer have the fear of being coldand all thanks to this jacket which can fit easily inside my bag.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, easily layer-able
Overall great jacket!
December 27, 2010
Jacket fits true to size, I am usually a medium in tops and the medium fit perfectly with just slightly long sleeves that you can pull over your hands when cold. Very warm for such a lightweight jacket and have gotten tons of compliments on the purple! Will wear under a shell during the snowy/windy days. Love it!
December 28, 2010
This jacket weighs absolutely nothing. In addition it can pack down into any of it's pockets making it incredibly easy to "carry along" for an "as needed" situation. For any people that spend full days outside ( instructors ) it is a great 2nd layer for defeating the morning chill or if your work takes you into the evening hours.Pros: Build quality, Performance
Great Baselayer with Style.
November 28, 2010
The Patagonia down sweater is very comfortable, stylish, and flattering and you won't look like a geek wearing it. It performs well as a baselayer or kicking around the basecamp because the down insulation is not as thick as a Patagonia down jacket. The down sweater is not waterproof, but it is not intended to perform like a shell. The nylon is thin like many down jackets and a shell would help prevent tears or runs. The sweater is very light and packable and the construction lives up to Patagonia standards.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Beautiful Colour - Great Function!
December 15, 2009
I bought this for my mother - nicest colour I've seen it's (purple-ish). I have one myself and I wear it year round - best purchase ever!
good for average height woman
September 11, 2009
Too short and boxy for a tall person....good quality and color
I need to take it off sometime!
December 13, 2010
I am now living in this item and I think my family and friends are hoping that I will start wearing something else at some point. But it is so very cozy! We have had very cold temps for North Carolina this season, and this jacket keeps me comfortable all day long. It seems to adjust magically to my body temperature and the surrounding temps, whether indoors or out. I am going to get the vest for my Christmas gift to myself.
November 30, 2010
No complaints on this jacket whatsoever. Over the years my girlfriend has tried several different down sweaters, and none have been quite right until now. The quality is typical Patagonia, which is to say top notch. The warmth is surprising for something this lightweight, and seems decidedly warmer than similar products tried from Marmot and North Face. Great balance overall in sizing, with the torso/body length and the arms being proportional. Overall the jacket is tending toward semi-form fitting, but I would not say overly so or anything qualifying as "fitted" or "athletic", but it's definitely not loose or tended to layer anything very heavy underneath.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
February 03, 2010
Super comfortable, lightweight but somehow still very warm. I want to wear it even when in the house because it feels so good.
The arms fit a bit large, but great jacket
August 18, 2010
Nice and light. You should get a fitted size so that it will be slimming.
September 18, 2010
Bought this for my girlfriend, who is always on the cold side. She loves it! Though she does not adventure much into the backcountry, it keeps her stylishly warm around town. It's fitted around the waist, so there's a slimming effect. And since it's just feathers, it's so light she barely notices she wearing it. Also great for traveling since it compresses. In all, warm, stylish, light, and compact!Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
Addicted to this Jacket!
October 26, 2010
This jacket is a must for your cold weather gear. Let's just say that I have more than one (maybe two or three?!) as I am addicted to this article of clothing. The "sweaters" come in an array of fantastic colors and are oh so soft and WARM! I tend to wear them alone for cold weather excursions around town and when I am on the slopes, I usually layer them with a windstopper under or over it. If it is snowing I wear the jacket under a water proof shell. They are versatile and have so many uses. You can wear them in any and all winter conditions. I know if you purchase this gem of a coat you surely will not be disappointed!Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use
September 11, 2009
Not for a tall person. Great Quality.
August 10, 2009
This down sweater has to be one of the best pieces in the Patagonia line for women. It's stylish, warm, and travels well. Plus the fit allows for additional layering underneath for extra cold weather. If you are looking for a versatile down jacket to wear skiing, hiking, or just walking around town, this is the one!
January 08, 2011
This jacket is extremely light and comfortable. It also is somewhat water repellent. Much larger cut than last year's model. Love the new colors. Would highly recommend.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Patagonia womens down sweater
January 30, 2011
I love this jacket. I have 3 of them so far! I am never too hot or too cold. It is a great top layer but also fits very well under a shell jacket. This is my go-to jacket. I use it to ski, shop, go out to dinner. It packs great so it goes with me everywhere.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, comfort
perfect fit, lightweight
March 23, 2010
Great lightweight jacket. I am 5'7, 125lbs and bought a small and it fits perfectly, not bulky at all. Great for travel too because it stuffs so easily
always wanted one
March 31, 2010
This is the creme de la creme of down sweaters. For me, being of menopausal age, it is all I need most of the time for living in the Rockies. Light, amazingly warm, flattering, I love it. I have waited for a long time for the color I wanted, now it is here, Caribbean Blue, just like the sea.
June 09, 2009
This is a great jacket. Perfect down content and weight. I love it. I purchased two and when my friends saw them they went and bought themselves some.
I love this thing!
November 20, 2009
Tried other big name brands of down sweaters on....none of them fit or looked as great at this one. 5'3, 135- size M was perfect. Zippers are great, arm movement is great, it's cute, toasty & comfortable. Sure to get mega-use out of it.
December 04, 2007
This jacket is amazing - very lightweight and comfortable, yet quite warm. It is extremely easy to move around in and slips on and off nicely. It does run a little large in sizing - I usually wear a small but wore an xsmall in this jacket and the sleeve length was still just right.
most favorite cold weather jacket!
December 20, 2010
I live in snow country!! I have had many, many jackets and this one is by far the BEST!! I love how it fits, feels, and keeps me super warm. It is not bulky, but the warmth is amazing! A must for the winter!!
The Best Patagonia you can buy
December 29, 2009
I love Patagonia. Their stuff has been in my wardrobe (or in the case of their luggage, my wardrobe has been in their stuff) for decades. I still have some stand-up shorts and polos that go back to college days (Yes, they still fit). I received one of these that I love, have bought two kid's versions for my girls and this Xmas, bought one for the woman who works for me. Because this is real down, it is super light in weight, but it is warm FAR beyond what you'd imagine from this airy garment. It's not really a technical fit, nor does it have many features, but it is a timeless, functional, well designed jacket anyone should own. One other note... the girls wear theirs ALL the time, and after two seasons, they are still in great shape. If you have kids, the kid's version is an awesome addition to any child's wardrobe.
February 10, 2008
I do enjoy this jacket very much. It is incredible lightweight, but very warm. It is also very thin, so it looks great as well. I wear it under a gore-tex jacket as ski jacket, and that is also comfortable and warm! For me the sizing is just right.
February 24, 2010
comfortable, warm and light
November 10, 2010
Wow! I heard that Patagonia is one of the best but I never experienced it. That jacket/sweater is not only light it is extremly light. It feels like having a shirt on me. It is so warm that in 30F of cold I had only T-shirt under and it was comfortably warm. The shape is really nice too. I look very feminine. So I can give it a 10 of 10!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
January 28, 2011
This jacket weighs next to nothing and it feels so incredibly comfortable. I bought it for when I go on my power walks. Warm if it is cold out, but if the day gets a little warmer out, the jacket still remains comfortable! And when it is zippered all the way up, the smallest bit of fabric keeps the zipper from flipping up into your face. (Hey, it's the little things right?) It is perfect for travel because it folds into a pocket. What down jacket could you pack in your purse or carry on? I just cannot say enough good things about it!!!Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
A great light way to stay warm.
September 05, 2010
Runs true to size. Is lightweight, comfortable and most important.....warm and done without a lot of bulk.
March 01, 2010
My wife loves this jacket. It is very light and extremely warm.
December 31, 2008
Very cozy. Go everywhere. Great weight for California--very warm but not bulky. The windproof external shell is light but not too delicate; however, for everyday use, a slightly heavier material might give more peace of mind. So far, the shell also seems quite downproof. I've noticed jealous glances at the climbing gym.
January 13, 2011
I recently purchased the down sweater, and I love it! I was always wearing a zip up fleece under a shell, and while it kept me warm, I was tired of always dealing with layers. This jacket is as warm as I had hoped, and I'm so happy to be done with the layers! The area where I live has pretty cold winters, with high daytime temps only reaching the high 20's to low 30's recently. I have been wearing this jacket over a couple of layered t-shirts, and it has kept me completely warm. The collar keeps both my neck warm and the wind out, and the sleeves are long enough to pull over my hands. The quality seems to be exactly what you'd expect of Patagonia. I also love that it's nice and warm, but not bulky. I looked at other down jackets, and it was hard to find one that didn't make me look like a marshmallow. This is great, and I'd recommend it to anyone.Pros: Great design, Performance
January 11, 2011
I wanted a down jacket and found altrec to have a good selection & return policy. I'm picky about my gear because I'm a wolf watching guide in Yellowstone. Winter is one of our biggest seasons and we are occasionally out in below zero weather. This jacket has really been growing on me, and is my favorite right now (I have several). It works best in a layering system--if its really cold out, you need a shell or second jacket over it b/c its not enough insulation by itself. Sometimes I use a shell over it, and if its less than about 20 degrees, I wear a second insulative jacket over it. I really like Patagonia's sizing--the jacket fits well with a sweater under it (I bought it a little large too). It is such high quality that it feels dreamy on. When I bought this jacket the bottom line was the fit, but knowing Patagonia uses recycled materials was a huge bonus (reduces industrial toxins).Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
great all around
April 19, 2010
This down sweater is true to fit, and looks great, certainly stylish enough to wear in town. It is warm, not bulky and compacts down (excuse the pun) to nothing.
warm and cozy
January 04, 2010
I love this thin warm sweater/jacket that can be worn inside and outside
great little jacket
September 16, 2010
I wore this jacket every morning and evening for a week in the Tetons and Yellowstone and it was perfect for the chilly temps (below freezing in the early a.m.) What a perfect choice for travel! Light weight, packs super easily, looks great and feels lovely. Warm, but not heavy. Even made a good pillow in my sleeping bag. Probably won't be enough in the middle of winter on super-cold days, but great for fall and winter chill. Fits nicely - what I would expect from a medium these days. Love the purple - Love this jacket in general! Can't really comment on durability, because I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but it seems reasonable sturdy for a lightweight down jacket.Pros: Great design, Performance, packs easily
January 14, 2011
Purchased for my wife as a gift. She lights the lightweight and simplicity. Makes a great pillow when stored in the internal zipper pocket.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Awesome Jacket...light & warm
December 27, 2010
This jacket is awesome! It is very light and extremely warm. Layer a nice water/wind proof over this jacket and create your own portable oven. Throw it on over a t-shirt and your ready to roll around town.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Love it!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
January 26, 2010
Light weight yet warm. Super comfy. You can't even tell you have it on. I cram it into a bag and it comes out looking great. Works nice under a thin outer layer for skiing.
versatile and attractive
July 22, 2009
wonderfully light and warm. this is a nice looking garment with an attractive (but still very comfortable) feminine fit. i can tell this will be a favorite for years to come. sleeves are a bit long- but good for covering your hands if need be. also seems to run a bit large- i ordered one size down and it still has ample room. a great all around versatile piece.
Lightweight and warm
March 02, 2010
I love my new Down Sweater. It is light, yet warm -- and much less bulky than an older down jacket I have. I feel like it is actually stylish. I bought a M (am 138 lbs and 5'5) and it fits perfect -- if anything a little big. I recommend this heartily. I have used it for X-C skiing, snowshoeing, and just around town. It works for every occasion.
November 03, 2009
For being so light, this jacket is really warm, just like it is described. I also love the zip up neck and feminine fit. The zippers feel cheap and seem to get stuck in the fabric a lot. Hopefully they'll hold up better than they feel.
January 09, 2005
Very warm given its light weight- fitted cut is flattering and my lower back is covered. Very nice coat.
Runs a Little Big
October 07, 2009
Too Big, got a Medium and I'd say it runs large, but I'm gettin a Small. Great travel jacket.
Worth the Wait
December 05, 2010
Have been wanting a Patagonia Down Sweater for years and finally decided to buy myself one! Missed out on the Seaport color last year, but the Volcanic Blue is just as beautiful. All the colors are always fantastic! It was definitely worth the wait--weightless, warm, functional on its own or under a parka, and looks great. I am 5'4, 120 and the small is just right. Get it to fit like a sweater and you will be most happy!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, versatile
Great fit and color
August 21, 2010
beautiful color and the fit is great. I love how light it feels.
Simply the best
February 25, 2010
Wow, she loves it. Light, fit is great, packs down super small. Everything a good piece of gear should be.
October 17, 2009
I just bought my second down sweater. In New England, it's great for fall outings, and keeping one (and now two) handy at home means I can set my thermostat at 60 and feel perfectly comfortable (as long as my socks are warm, too). The light weight makes it easy to wear and, if I haven't checked the weather thoroughly, I can pull the long sleeves over my hands to keep warm. I'll buy more.
November 09, 2009
I love the Patagonia down sweater- it is very warm and lightweight. It packs very nicely as well. I got mine in maraschino- it's a great color. I feel like it runs a bit big compared to other Patagonia items. I usually wear medium but would probably get a small next time.
I definitely recommend this.Pros: Performance, Ease of use, Great value
August 16, 2009
This is the most versatile down jacket I've ever owned that keeps you warm (with proper layering depending on outside temperature) , looks great, cozy fit, not bulky, feminine appearance, et cetera.... If you need a down jacket, this is the one!!!
I love this down sweater!
May 17, 2010
I love this jacket! I have the heavier version of this sweater and have worn it for many years working in the Arctic of Alaska and elsewhere. I bought this lighter version to fit in for those occasions when it is nice to have a comfortable lightweight sweater that you can take anywhere and that takes up very little room or space and weighs hardly anything yet keeps you quite warm. I really enjoy wearing it especially since it is so stylish for a down sweater. The colors in this style are also a lot of fun too - more variety than other down sweaters I have seen.
Best jacket ever
September 14, 2008
If you want warmth without the bulk, then buy this jacket. I got two - for my husband and myself - to wear while hiking the Andes in Peru, and we had everyone, including our trek guide, drooling over these jackets. One of the Peruvian guides kept on hinting that he wanted my husband's jacket - no way were we giving these babies up. They were our favorite purchase for the trip! Compresses down into a tiny little ball. Fits very true to size, even with layering. I normally wear XS, and the S was way, way too big on me.
great jacket, great price, great service
September 30, 2008
I bought a Patagonia down sweater for my girlfriend because we are moving from the central coast of California to Spokane Washington. Patagonia makes wonderful gear and the down sweater is light weight, very compact, as warm as can be and feels good to the touch. I purchased it from Altrec.com because I couldn't find a better deal anywhere. The sweater arrived quickly and with free shipping. I had a great experience
January 31, 2011
I love this jacket. I live in San Diego where it gets chilly enough to need a warm jacket. This one fits perfectly - I bought a medium and it has enough room (but not a lot) to wear over a heavy sweater. I thought I might need a small because some of the reviews said it runs large but I find that it's true to size. (I'm 5'7', 133 lbs and size 8) It's lightweight and the purple color (with lavender lining) is gorgeous. I rolled the sleeves a little to show the lavender. I plan to pack it in my suitcase for at trip to Lake Tahoe at the end of the month. It packs easily (you could roll it up) and will be great on long airplane flights when it gets chilly. It's really perfect for almost any trip if you need a lightweight warm sweater.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
January 20, 2011
This down sweater is a beautiful color (I ordered purple) but was really big. I ordered a medium and need a small for sure. I am 5'8" 130 lbs and the arms still were too long, body was too big too. I am sending back and will reorder the small and can't wait to receive it!Pros: Great design, Build quality
Great style with warmth!
December 11, 2010
The Black Down Sweater has a great classic look. It's a comfortable fit , so lightweight, but with lots of warmth. I wear a size 12 and the Size L was great for layering underneath. My first purchase had the quilt stitching come undone. "Altrec" promptly replaced, paying return shipping costs. Great service!
Great jacket-no bulk!
January 06, 2010
This jacket is very flattering for a women-not bulky-can be adjusted at the bottom and is the perfect weight for winter and layering. For those of you that don't like the stuffed marshmallow look-this is perfect for those cold weather climates....I have purchased two already!
Best lightweight down!
November 28, 2010
Great jacket! Expected Patagonia quality. Used to wear large but due to changes in Patagonia sizing, the medium fit in this jacket. I'm getting lots of compliments on this one!Pros: Build quality, Ease of use
February 12, 2011
I love this jacket....I live in northern california, and so far have worn it almost every day since I got it in January. It's the perfect weight, not bulky, and almost as warm as my bulkier patagoia down jacket that I don't wear anymore. This jacket is much better for moving around, and feeling feminine. I can easily get a mid-weight sweater underneath it, and I ordered a small. ( I weigh 130)Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Highly Recommended for Comfort, Weight
February 02, 2011
In moderate winter climates (>25F), this sweater will keep you WARM. Fit is very comfortable, not bulky in the least, and lightweight. If need be, it can be easily worn as a layer under a shell. I am very sensitive to the cold, and this sweater has been my go-to since it arrived. I am petite-sized (5' 2"), and the XS fits perfectly, although a bit long in the arms. Overall, a very reliable down sweater/jacket, and the light weight is the big bonus.Pros: Great design, Ease of use
best down jacket
January 09, 2009
i finaly bought one and was very happy with my purchase.its warm yet so thin and packable.its also a good looking jacket.it runs one size larger.i had to return it to get a smaller size.the sleeves are long but comes in handy when im not wearing gloves.
light weight and warm
January 30, 2010
This Jacket is perfect. Light weight, windproof, extremely warm, and not bulky. I absolutely love mine andliving in morthern Michigan, never put mine away. On the boat, or sitting around the campfire on a cool night, its just as warm and cozy as on the coldest winter days. I would not change a thing, it is perfect.
April 22, 2008
I have been eyeing this jacket for a few months now and am glad I bit the bullet and got it. Love it! Extremely lightweight and very warm, I bought it to wear alone or under a rain shell. Works like a charm. The fabric is awesome and very easy to slip over or under a layer. Sleeves are longer than other Patagonia jackets I own which is good to pull over my hands in cold weather. Also the color is more of a minty green than silvery as it appears on the screen.
