best coat ever

I debated for a long time between this coat and the Mountain Hardware Downtown coat, and ultimately chose this one because of its trim fit, even though it didn't have the cute fur around the hood and the fleece lining. I don't regret my choice--it has kept me toasty, and I don't feel like a poof ball. I'm 5'8" and 128 lbs. and the size small fits great. I haven't put it to the test as far as how waterproof it is, but it did fine in some light rain. I wish it were still winter so I could keep wearing it. :)Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

my wife loves this jacket. perfect for cold mornings taking kids to the bus or as a before/after skiing jacket in the parking lot at Copper. it is surprisingly warm for its weight.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever
January 04, 2014
Great fit and materials are high quality. I find the small entails of this jacket make it stand out like the overlapping closure, the two way zipper, and hand warming pockets. The down is amazingly soft! Would buy this item again.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Love This Parka
March 30, 2012
Bought this parka in early January for a Chicago winter. Even though our winter wasn't the usual brutal weather we have, this parka did the job in keeping me warm and dry through several snow storms, outside recess with students, commuting and outdoor recreation. I am a size 0 and ordered the xs and found it to fit me perfectly. I have room for several layers underneath - sweaters, long sleeved shirts, etc. or hoodies with other long sleeved layers. I am 5'4" and it comes down to my knees. It is very light weight for a coat that long and the sleeve length is just right on me and I have trouble with sleeves being long enough in some items like long-sleeved dry fit tops. I can't wait to wear it again next year and would definitely recommend it to others.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Classic and stylish winter coat
February 09, 2011
The parka has both form and function. I also like that the hood can be removed. I rated it a 4-star because I find that it is a bit too long for me, but otherwise, I really like it.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance
Stylish, warm coat to deal with Chicago winters
January 22, 2012
This is a really great coat in terms of style and warmth. I'm 5'1" and got the XS. It's slim-fitting but still allows me to wear layers underneath and has a dual zipper so I can unzip the bottom part to allow easier sitting. The only slight cons I've experienced are that the neck is a bit tight if you were to zip it all the way up; I can't zip it around a scarf, but you really don't need one if you're wearing this coat. Te hood fits a little strange - it's warm but kind of puffy on the back of the head. I still highly recommend this coat, despite these minor complaints.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, style, Cons: strange hood design
Warmth and style!
January 02, 2011
I'am short and this jacket length is great. Being short makes it difficult to find a parka . I took a chance and ordered this down with it jacket and was pleasantly surprised. The parka is the perfect length with the exception of the arms being a little long. It light, stylish, and warm.It has a very slimming effect. If your looking for style and to be different from all those North Face people this is the jacket.Patagonia is always cutting edge and is made well.Patagonia stands behind its products.Try it you'll love this jacket.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost
Nice down jacket!
December 10, 2010
This is a lovely down jacket that is warm but surprisingly light and non-bulky. So far, it has kept me warm in 15 degree weather (that's as cold as it has gotten in the midwest so far!) The 'slim-fit' is a nice feature. I initially had doubts about the size (I bought a medium and wear a size 10 dress), but it actually fits perfectly. It hits just above the knee and the sleeves come down to my wrists. The hood had a draw cord to tighten it around the face. THe neck is a little constricting when fully zipped up, so I leave it a little loose and wear a warm scarf. I am happy with this jacket.Pros: Build quality, slim fit, lightweight, Cons: tight-ish neck
Stay warm and look fabulous
January 31, 2013
This coat is incredibly slimming and overall is a great look. I couldn't be happier. You look stylish and you stay warm. Feels like you are walking around in a nice down sleeping bag. It's so comfortable you can't believe how good you look. It's also incredibly breathable so you don't feel like you are suffocating when you walk inside. This coat is a MUST HAVE for Winter!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Tailored Grey Parka
March 16, 2013
This jacket fits great! I am 5'2" 115lbs, athletic build. It is the perfect size for wearing layers underneath. I love that the hood is giant and can be cinched (all my other hooded jackets have smallish hoods that provide no protection at all and fly off). The length is a bit longer than I expected but I'm sure it's because I'm short!! It's warm & serves its purpose in the wind & cold of Northern California, where I visit often. I must add that I have been waiting to find the right sale price on a Patagonia Parka, and this fit the bill :D
This is an amazing coat!
December 21, 2010
The coat is unbelievably warm but so lightweight! In the Chicago wind and chill I am so warm and comfortable. I wish I bought this coat years ago instead of being so cold!Pros: Great design, Great value
A good purchase
November 10, 2012
I ordered this parka because I wanted to have a coat that would cover my backside. I am 5'2" and about 150 lbs. I have very broad shoulders so I ordered a large. The large fits perfect on the shoulders. I was worried about ordering a large because I didn't want to wear this parka like a dress, but the parka just sits at my knees!! I would have ordered the medium if I didn't have to layer underneath due to the location where I live, northern Canada. This parka would not work in extreme cold weather like -20 degrees Celsius. By ordering the large I have lots of room to move around and can reach forward. There is a lot of room in the waist, but for shoulder functionality, I have to order large. It's not bulky at all! The parka is warm and covers body parts you want to keep warm like the head and neck and the backside...good for a stroll and running around town when snow's on the ground...but not in a blizzard!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value
February 11, 2011
i'm always freezing and have finally found a coat that keeps me warm, even in the subzero temps we've been having lately! The fit is a bit odd - I'm 5'3 105 lbs, small build, but its still tight in the shoulders if i'm wearing a heavy sweater or fleece underneath
Warm, stylish and incredibly comfortable
February 02, 2013
I have 3 other Patagonia winter jackets (sweater weight short & long and heavier short). I bought this to "complete my winter needs". It definitely met my expectations. I chose medium, though I'm 5'4" and 130lbs, as I knew I would be wearing it on the coldest of cold winter days in Minnesota and I didn't want space or sleeve length to be an issue, since I knew I would have layers underneath. I couldn't be happier. We've had some serious artic blast this season and I've been snugly warm. Additionally, the 2 way zipper is such a subtle and fantastic feature. It allows me to walk with zipper down, but drive my car with zipper half up. The removable hood gives flexibility (I'm a hat person unless it's really cold) as it allows for great head movement. Did I mention its a flattering, stylish cut? My only disappointment is the color I selected is not to my liking....but that's small in scheme of surviving a Minnesota winter!Pros: Great design
January 02, 2013
I loved it! They way it fit was perfect for the snow. Waterproof-yet-breathable fabric technologies are abundant in the outerwear world, but even with rain jackets marketed as ultra-breathable (as most are) some condensation still builds up inside the shell, leaving you clammy, wet, and wondering why you wore a jacket in the first place.
January 27, 2010
the parka is all I have been wearing-it is so light weight, but amazingly warm. I love it!
March 29, 2013
I get compliments on this coat whenever I wear it. The tailored grey is beautiful. I am so glad I bought this coat!Pros: Great design, Performance, great color

December 28, 2010
I absolutely love this coat. It's so warm, yet very light. I wear it for walking the dog and running all my errands. I probably would not wear it to a mall, as the down becomes very warm after an hour or so. I'm 5'6 and 125 ibs. and the small fits perfectly. It is not bulky at all.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Not a good choice
January 14, 2013
I am 5' 4 1/2", 126 pounds, and the size small fit me fine everywhere . . . but the armpits - the armpits are too tight for comfort. I was also displeased with the quality of the coat. The collar was thin and there were no storm cuffs. I had to return this coat, because I did not think it was worth the price.Cons: Bad design, Poor quality
December 24, 2009
I'm tall and this coat fits me perfectly. It's warm and comfortable; the only problem I have with it is the hood isn't adjustable, or so it seems.
Really nice coat!
November 07, 2012
This is a flattering and beautifully designed coat! I have zero complaints about it, but will say it runs large. I am often unable to fit in Patagonia parkas with my wider hips and small shoulders, but this one is almost too roomy in my usual size (room for layers!) which may be great news for those that struggle with Patagonia's fit. A really nice piece!
Nice Jacket-didn't fit
December 18, 2011
Have lots of Patagonia products and have always been pleased with the quality, style and fit. This parka was really nice~I had purchased it to wear for work for warmth and on wet days as opposed to a bulkier jacket. Style for that purpose was great, but it was very large, just in the back and didn't fit well. I ordered an XS and I usually wear an XS or XXS or 0 in most things. I would have loved it if it had fit well.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
I bought two of these
December 15, 2009
I bought two of these great coats, slim and warm
An ultra-warm, stylish, yet shapely puffy!
February 22, 2010
I purchased this cote as a gift for my wife. I'm a big believer in down coats for incredible warmth and light weight, and this just-above-the-knee-length coat was a no-brainer in that regard. However, my own experience with down is that the warmth comes at a penalty: one often looks like a marshmallow. As a male, that's not a big deal, but I appreciate that women are typically more concerned with such things. Patagonia nailed it with this one: They managed to create a 600-fill down coat that has a trim, figure-flattering finish to it. I'm not sure how they did it, but they sure did. Even the stitching of the panels works to create that slender look. My wife, at 5'6"/145#, fit perfectly into the medium. Fit and finish is fantastic, as is to be expected from Patagonia. I believe there is a lifetime warranty, which doesn't hurt, either. My wife is delighted with this coat. We live in one of the colder parts of the country where sub-zero temperatures are part of the norm, and I dare say she's almost delighted to face those previously-dreaded mornings now that she has this coat.
Great Winter Coat for City
January 09, 2013
This is a really nice winter coat for those of you who live in a city and walk a lot. It's comparable to the Northface coat that is very common in Chicago. There is no way to make one look slim in these types of coats, but no one cares when it is freezing cold.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
December 08, 2010
Very good product and perfect for windy, cold, snowy days. Good quality and wears very well. Stays dry and warm in harshest conditions.Pros: Great design, Cons: Wears quickly, Cost
Looks chic and stay warm
October 16, 2010
Been looking for a knee-length down parka to stay warm during winter ski trips to Utah. Was researching/choosing between Fiona Parka and this. I tried the Fiona Parka at a store, it is chic and more form fitting, however, the princess cut at the bottom was too much for me. The material, though light, appears to be thin and too glossy. I ended up ordering the Down-with-it parka from Altrec and am very happy with it. It has a detachable hood (which the Fiona Parka doesn't have) that is more versatile/functional. The fit is also more generous than the Fiona Parka. I am 5'3"", 118 lb. the S size is just perfect, with a little bit room for layering. The material feels durable and toughter than that of Fiona Parka. Looking forward to my upcoming ski trip to Utah, knowing this time my thighs will be protected from the cold.Pros: Great design, Build quality, comfort + warmth
January 03, 2012
Great coat, runs a little big but not by much. My wife loves it. Great for walking our child around city in cold weather. Very duarable. Hood is low profile which she likes.Pros: Great design, Performance

Love this coat!
August 31, 2011
I have been a fan of patagonia since I can remember, but they have gona above and beyond with this coat. I have worn this coat in 35 degree weather, and in 8 degree weather, and each time I was snug as a bug. So lightweight feeling, awesome tailored fit (true to size), but I still feel like I can climb everest in it. Not too long for hikes, not too short for playing in the snow. Great for work or play. THANK YOU Patagonia!
December 11, 2009
I absolutely love this winter coat by Patagonia. In fact, I love it so much that I bought it TWICE! Warning: learn from my mistake, do NOT put it in the dryer unless you plan to leave it in for a very short period of time. Over-drying really screws it up and it becomes unwearable. I gave it five stars anyway because it's incredibly warm and superbly made. It was my own fault for not reading the care instructions.

It fits well and it pretty true to size. I ordered a medium. It's a good length and protects from winter weather. Wish the zipper pulls and the hood pulls were better made.Pros: Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Nice with caveats
August 06, 2012
I am really a fan of Patagonia products, and I do like this coat. However, it works just fine in the Pacific Northwest (and being water repellent is extremely useful), but if you're somewhere like Wyoming it's just not warm enough. It's very flattering and hangs nicely even with a bulky sweater underneath. I just wish it had some more down in it. I wear a small and I'm 5'9". I haven't had a problem with sleeve length at all (although my wing span is 5'7").Pros: Great design
March 02, 2010
BOUGHT AN XS, FITS PERFECTLY. SUPER WARM AND NOT HEAVY AT ALL.
love love love this coat
April 27, 2011
I purchased this in January and have worn it all winter - well unfortunately have still worn it some even into April as it's been cold in the midwest. The design on this is great - not bulky at all and very flattering for a down coat. And of course down is the warmest (and lightest) there is for staying warm in the winter. It is slim fit, but true to size. Don't size up people! You don't need to.Pros: Great design, Build quality
October 17, 2012
I was debating between this coat and TNF's metropolis parka, I tried both and chose this one because the fit is more flattering. Metropolis parka is straight cut and has no waist line. In terms of quality or warmth, I really think these two are similar.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
February 10, 2012
I Love this parka. It is very warm, has great style and the quality is excellent. It does runs a little on the smaller side though. Patagonia makes great products all the way around. I would definitely recommend this coat
Love this coat
November 05, 2009
This is such a cozy coat that also manages to be quite flattering. It is the perfect weight and keeps you extremely warm. I love the 2 way zipper option which can keep the cold out or open up if it's warmer outside.
For a puffy-style coat, it is trim, tailored and warm.
January 06, 2010
It is also a great travel coat with its good style, durablility and warmth. it is also light-weight. It is both practical and stylish. And the hood makes it more useful on snowy or rainy days.
Patagonia Down With it Parka
February 07, 2011
I live in the Northeast and have to wear a suit every day. This jacket is by far the warmest and most stylish, versatile (casual or dress) coat on the market. I highly recommend this parka. The quality is superior to competing brands. It is warm and fits as described. This is well worth the purchase price, which, in my opinion, is arguably under priced.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, slim fitting, stylish
December 11, 2009
This parka scrunches up and can easily fit into a suitcase. It's light yet very warm and looks great with a nice silhouette - not too slim and definitely not boxy. I'm a petite size and usually coats that are not petite don't fit. But this one did! Only thing is that for me the arms are too long - but they can easily be cuffed and it looks great just the same. I LOVE this coat and plan to wear it for a long time.
Very Cute Patagonia Coat
January 30, 2011
I agonized over whether to buy this coat in a Small or Medium since all the reviews said it ran so slim. I am 5'7" and 125 lbs and the Small fits perfectly. The coat is slimming and very flattering. I love that it's so warm without all the bulk. My only complaint about this coat is that the hood is not very deep. The one time I've worn it up was a rainy, windy day and I had to keep tugging at it to protect my face. I might stitch a row of rabbit fur or a synthetic fur around the hood both to add to the warmth/depth and to make the coat just a little more glamorous! Overall, another quality outer garment from Patagonia!Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, warmth without bulk, Cons: hood not deep enough
January 04, 2010
best of it's kind. many try and copy, but just not the same.
September 03, 2012
The parka was exactly what I thought it would be - fits perfectly, warm, and not too bulky! I am a petite so was worried that it might look too long, but it fits well. Excited to try it out this winter!
A trendy coat
January 30, 2011
I bought this coat because I want something trendy and warm at the same time. However, I have to say this jacket is not as warm as I thought it could be, especially the lower part of the jacket. Luckily, this winter is not cold, so I wear it everyday walking to office. Nevertheless, it's warmer than any random puff jackets from fashion brands. The other thing is that this jacket is rather long. It just fits tall people much better than the short one, such as me. I am 5'2 and size S almost reaches my knee.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Patagonia Down With It Parka

This is a wonderful coat. Super warm, very stylish, great fit. True to Patagonia's excellent quality.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
She loves it
April 20, 2011
I bought this coat for my girlfriend and she loves it. It looks nice and is very warm for a not so bulky jacket. It was a cold winter and she stayed warm on the streets of NYC. Its also light enough that when the temps popped up to close to 40 deg she was still comfortable.
January 05, 2009
I love this coat! With wind chills of -10 yesterday, I was quite snug without looking like the Michelin Man. The downside to the slim silhouette is the lack of pockets...small price in my opinion. I would recommend this coat to anyone looking for warmth without the bulk.
November 30, 2010
My wife loves the fit and the warmth this down parka provides. She wanted a light weight coat that would provide full coverage on our cold, winter nights. Looks and feel great without the bulk of a heavy coat.Pros: Great design
January 26, 2013
I moved to the Midwest from California, so obviously it was time for me to purchase a warm coat. I LOVE this jacket!! I am 5'8" & 130lbs and the small fits perfect on me. My only complaints are that the sleaves could be a tad longer and I wish had a little more room in the neck when it's zipped all the way. It's a little tight when wearing a scarf and I zip the jacket all the way up. Overall, lots of room to layer underneath and plenty of room to move around in when driving. Plus, it really isn't a bulky coat and provides total warmth. I took my daughter sledding in 14 degrees and I was actually sweating because it kept me so warm. No complaints about that!! Customer service was awesome with making suggestions with regards to their inventory. I'm totally happy and will order from Alltrec again.Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value
Fabulous Down Parka!!!
January 07, 2009
I purchased my Patagonia Women's Down With It Parka in early December for use on daily walks (15-40 degrees) in the Sierras with my dog. The parka has surpassed my expectations. It is lightweight, but it fully insulates you from the cold. The two-way zipper allows you to zip open the bottom on warmer days or to accomodate a longer stride. The removable padded hood works well and adds extra warmth even when you do not have it on your head. The down padding is also an effective cushion if you inadvertently fall on an icy roadway. This parka is well constructed and has a somewhat roomy feel. You can wear a synthetic sweater or fleece vest under it, but it is warm enough over a cotton or nylon shirt. The fabric and style is dressy enough to wear to dinner or evening out. I know I will use it for many years to come.
December 20, 2010
This coat would look good on a really slim person. The design of the quilting makes the back of the coat pinch in at the wrong place. Also, the brown color is dull and boring. Too bad for me and my favorite brand, but I must return it.Cons: Bad design, dull color
January 17, 2012
I am 5'2" 123lbs. and I bought this coat in small. I only wore it twice since I got it only two days ago, and it is warm in 35degree weather. It fits great, very warm and lightweight. I love everything about it except for the hood. The hood fits funny, doesnt' cover enough from the sides, and doesnt really look good. It should be deeper at least from the sides and maybe some fur around it would make it look nicer. I would recommend it and would give it 5 stars if only the hood would be better.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Performance
warmest parka I have ever had
November 19, 2012
Down With It Parka is a very nice and warm parka. I was used to those super-fluffy jackets, and was expecting something similar. Instead, it's very confy and not fluffy at all. Very good purchasePros: Great design
January 22, 2014
I tried on many different brands of "parka" style down coats (longer length). I put this one on and it fit like a glove, felt like putting on a blanket, and has very durable feeling material. Also noticed that snow just wicks away off of material. The style is classic not too trendy and the length is perfect. Just above my knees. I can also unzip from the bottom to get in and out of my car if needed. I am 5'7" 140#'s and the medium is perfect. Will definitely be wearing this all winter here in Steamboat Springs, CO. You won't regret this purchase. Oh yeah, hood is awesome, too.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Overall a Good Coat; Proportions a Bit Weird
January 03, 2010
The coat is stylish and keeps me warm in the wind and snow. I like the way you can adjust the hood to fit snugly around your head, regardless of your head's size or general inclinations. The feathers don't come out. The only thing about the coat is the weird proportions. I am 5' tall, about 100 pounds, and am perfectly proportioned. I don't have overly short/long arms or legs. My limbs are slightly long for my height, but totally within the normal range. I'm not fat or overly thin. I got the XS and it fits OK except that it goes down past my knees (implicating a good fit for a tall person), but the pockets are way up high on the coat, as if it were made for a person with 3/4-length arms. Don't get me wrong, I'm not prejudiced against extra small people with really short arms and really long legs, but most people probably just don't fit this bill. I think it would have been better if Patagonia had manufactured a petite XS like a couple inches shorter than the other sizes, since most XS people are not really that tall. I also think it would be better if the pockets were a little lower on the coat.
Black, Classic Navy, Dark Walnut, Prussian Blue, Raw Linen and Tailored Grey.
