What a great jacket
December 26, 2010
I am 5'9" and have a long torso, so finding a jacket that comes to my hips is hard. This Patagonia downtown jacket hits at my hips, and even has shape to it for a more ladylike fitting. I wear a Medium top and ordered a medium jacket. Fits great across the chest even with a lightweight sweater on. I know it's rather pricey, LOVE IT - definitely worth it.Pros: Great design, Cons: Cost
Comfy and Stylish
January 05, 2012
I bought this jacket as a Xmas gift for my girlfriend, and it's been a complete hit. She already had a longer-cut Patagonia down jacket that she calls her "walking sleeping bag" because it's so toasty and cozy she knows she'll stay warm even in really chilly weather, and she wanted something a little more stylish and less bulky to carry and wear "out". The Downtown jacket turns out to be the perfect compromise. The jacket fits her like a glove. She is size S (5'3"), and the cut of the jacket is just right and nicely contoured. The color is tasteful and different. The hood is roomy, but also wraps snugly around her head to stay put in wind and while being active, while the collar wraps around the neck to provide practical and soft coverage over the lower face. There are lots of little details that make this jacket a winner. You just can't beat Patagonia + Altrec!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, stylie cut
Comfortable but not the warmest
January 13, 2012
Got the jacket to brave the cold Wisconsin winters. Was surprised when I got it; thought it would be puffier or fluffier. Tried it on in wind/snow conditions in downtown Milwaukee; I even had a Northface Denali on underneath the jacket. Didn't understand why I was still feeling the wind and feeling cold. On the other hand, this jacket's got a great hoodie - so comfortable and soft. It'll definitely keep your face warm without wearing a beanie/hat. Overall it's pretty stylish and form-fitting; I just thought it would be a bit warmer!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost
Warmest Jacket Ever
January 03, 2011
YEAH, I love this puffy down jacket. The silver color is nice, matte not metallic. The longer length of the jacket is very flattering. The hood is a plus and is a cute detail on the coat. Fleece lined pockets keep my hands warm all the time.Pros: Great design, Lasts forever
September 22, 2010
I think this is an awesome jacket. I was looking for a good balance between warm, functional, and dressy enough for work...and this jacket seems to do the trick. The hood is great, although it doesn't quite fold into the shawl as advertised. I love the color, it is not as bright-red as it looks, but is more of a burnt orange-red type color. The length is great, although the arms are a bit long. Patagonia gear is quality.Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
January 29, 2012
I live in Boston and I've been wearing this jacket for the month of January and it's been warm enough. However, it hasn't gotten very cold yet, and I'm not sure it would stand up to temperatures below 10 degrees F. I start to get a little chilly in this jacket when it drops below 25 or so, especially if there's wind. However, I think the fit might be contributing to this: the arms are a little baggy on me, so I think that lets cold air in. I normally wear a size medium in almost everything, and the medium that I ordered is just a tiny bit too big. I like the look of this jacket; it's less puffy and doesn't look like a sleeping bag like most winter coats do. I ordered it in black since I thought that's the most practical color, but I've seen others wearing the red color and I like that color a lot too.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Great town jacket
March 30, 2013
I bought this jacket for 10-20° weather and it works great with a heavy fleece under it. It's not as warm as i would have liked but works great as a stand alone piece when the weather is over 30°. I love the color and the length. The sleeves are quite wide and i wish there was elastic at the cuffs since wind, cold air will quickly make its way through. If you wear gloves over the cuff it will fix the problem. It is quite stylish and works well for around town. I don't know if i would ever take it out hiking, the outer surface looks prone to pick-tear. I am 5'4" slim, and a small was a bit large, great for layering.Pros: Great design
I love Patagonia down
January 14, 2013
The Patagonia Downtown Loft Jacket is AMAZING! I love the warmth it provides in a svelt, chic package!! I think it's sized a bit large so I downsized to not feel as a marshmallow. I am thrilled with my purchase and can attest to 3 months of wearing that it is effective, very cute, I love the neck wrap (which acts scarf-like), washes well, and I've spilt coffee on it twice and it repelled both times! I cannot praise this jacket nor Patagonia down products enough. And I had a very pleasant and efficient shopping experience with Altrec. Love love and highly recommend.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Beautiful and very warm!
November 09, 2012
I LOVE how this jacket fits on me. I am 5'1" & 100Ib and x-small is perfect, not bulky nor tight at all. It looks elegant, yet keeps me warm incredibly. I love the length of the jacket, too!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
this is the perfect winter jacket
December 04, 2012
I read about 70 reviews on this jacket before buying it. I finally took the plunge and ordered it to europe where I had just moved. I didn't want to look like a michelin man, but didn't want to freeze. I got this coat in pearl and it's beautiful!!! It is not bulky, but keeps warm, and fits so well. It is so warm, and beautiful. I recommend it to anyone trying to keep warm but look good while doing it. this is the exact coat I've been needing for years! I am 5,7", 130 lb, and the small is perfect. can fit clothes under. or could have gotten XS without much room for layers.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
February 17, 2012
Only Patagonia makes the super light down coat. Fits great. I hate to take it off. Coat can be worn anywhere. Love the length as it looks nice with slacks or a dress.Pros: Great value
December 06, 2010
This is a great jacket! We ordered it for our daughter who is going to college in Indiana and needed something to keep her warm. It fits all of her requests, light weight, fitted and warm. And the color is beautiful!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
January 19, 2011
I got this jacket in Goji Berry and love it. Wanted a different color than black or grey. I wish it came in a chocolate brown as it would be a little more versatile and neutral. This jacket fits a little small so I was between a L and XL. I got the XL so that I can layer if I want underneath it. The only thing I didn't love about it might be the buttons. They seem a little cheap for the price of the jacket. All in all I love this jacket and would buy another one when they fix the sizing and put on nicer buttons.Pros: Great design, Cons: sizing
December 25, 2010
This is a high quality coat. I bought it for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. My only concern is whether it will be fully adequate as a "ski coat" versus a stylish "city coat." She likes how it fits - slimming but not too tight. Red color is more burnt orange, but very nice. Hood is a little funky - seems like it needs a faux fir lining, but not a big deal. May have to return it for more of a technical coat, but I'm sure she wishes she could have both!! As always, Altrec is great.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
November 09, 2009
I bought this for my girlfriend for her birthday and she lives in it. I don't think she would ever take it off if she didn't have to. It is light weight but heavy duty warmth.
November 25, 2010
this jacket is very light, comfortable, super warm durable and good design. so i used many times when i go working, hiking and fishing. this one is the best value in this price. and this jacket gives high performance to me. i lives beaverton in oregon. this jaket protects cold winter. i satisfid 100%. and super fast shipping.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Warm and glam (not typical down coat)
January 06, 2011
This satiny orangey/red jacket's fit is feminine and flattering. Once you put up the hood, you are in your own climate-controlled warm world. Not just for daytime, the tunic-length makes the jacket dressy enough to wear for winter evenings to restaurants and theaters in Philadelphia. (The fitted torso is a little tighter than the Fiona (which I love but isn't as warm and has no hood).)Pros: Great design, Performance, attractive
May 04, 2010
I bought this for my wife for X-mas. She wanted a warm coat that wouldn't make her look like a marshmallow. This does this trick. Super warm and fits nice.... not too puffy. It is stylish enough to wear to work or out snow shoeing.
Best Purchace Ever
March 04, 2011
This northeast winter has been so bitter cold with constant snow and ice. After wearing this beautiful coat, I can finally tolerate the cold. The warmth this coat provides is the best I've ever experienced. The quality is excellent. This down coat is stylish. I love the color. It fits true to size. I am 5'5" and weigh 145 lbs. There is room for a sweater, but I am quite warm without any layering. I would definitely recommend this coat to a friend.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
November 11, 2010
My wife and I live in Boston and she just got the coat a few days ago, but she already loves it. Extremely warm to the point that she says sometimes even wearing a t-shirt underneath is enough on not so cold days. Water resistant in light rain but would need something a little more water repellant on stormy days. Great product from Patagonia and can't wait to buy the next one.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: Cost
January 07, 2010
I bought this jacket to counter the sub-zero temperatures that are characteristic of winters in Northern Wisconsin. I have been exceedingly pleased with the fit of the jacket, it is very flattering. Its only drawback is that the jacket is TOO warm at times!

Patagonia Downtown Loft Jacket
April 05, 2012
This is a super warm, very fashionable coat. It is a little longer than some others out there for those very cold, windy days. It is great to have a hood to keep out the blustery wind. It seems to run a little bit small but not greatly so.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
svelte and warm
November 06, 2011
I am about 5'6", 135 and the medium fit me perfectly -- so I'd say "true-to-size." The coat fits very svelte and isn't so puffy for such a warm coat. I live in Minneapolis and, like other reviewers, think that it will be great for outdoorsy activities and will also look good being out around town. The hood looks kind of funny when it is up, but I don't think I will really care when it is -20 -- seems very functional and will work well to keep the wind out. You can also fold it down and it looks like a nice rounded collar. Very nice coat -- I am very happy with my purchase.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Its a beaut Clark!

Perfect color, Hard to find combo of light weight and warmth. I am sad to see warm weather come around because I will not be able to wear it.
Well worth it
January 26, 2011
This is a cozy, warm and high-quality jacket. I've never shelled out this much for a jacket before, but it was well worth the investment, I expect to use this for years to come. Gorgeous color in Goji Berry, and feels luxurious, too. Very well designed, fits well with a slim, feminine cut (I'm 5'4" and 115 lbs and could comfortably layer thick sweaters under it if needed - but it's so warm they are not needed) Feather-light weight, covers the full hip which helps keep the warmth in, sleeves nice and long. The first morning I had it I stepped out into 18 degrees and didn't notice the least bit of the chill. Hood fits snugly and is low-profile when not in use. This follows up a North Face 800-fill technical jacket that I'd been using for warmth when hiking but never cared for the cut (too short and bulky-looking).Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, stylish cut
October 10, 2011
I got the last "feather grey" color in size small and sent it to my daughter (32). I was concerned if it would fit as she is slender, but "broad" shouldered. Also being at 5'8", has long arms. She says it's great, even with layers underneath. She lives in Tulsa, OK where the winters can get quite frigid and she needed something with a hood for the next ice storm.Pros: Great design
February 02, 2012
Growing up somewhere where the weather never drops below 80, winters have been difficult. I've been hesitant to buy a coat because none flatter my 5'0, 98lb frame, but this coat in XS was perfect. It's a slim fit, so it doesn't flare out, and hits mid-thigh for warmth. The coat is also not too bulky. Unfortunately, the weather has not dropped below 30 yet, but I can say I wore only ONE layer (versus my usual four) under this coat and was as warm.Pros: Great design
I am delighted with this purchase!
May 17, 2011
I shopped for years looking for the perfect coat. I found it in this coat. Quality material and workmanship. Flattering fit. A hood at your fingertips, if you need it. Hand warming pockets. Long enough to cover a blazer. Love it . I highly recommend.Pros: Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

My wife simply loves this early Christmas present - warm, functional, and fashionable.
Slimming Down Jacket?
October 19, 2011
Love this jacket! It is the first down jacket I have ever worn that is actually somewhat slimming! And warm. Great for freezing days at the playground and looks nice enough to wear out on the town on cold nights. Get lots of compliments on it!Pros: Great design
February 20, 2013
The jacket is very light. It is also warm. I got a size small, and feel like it was a bit big.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use
The Warmest Jacket Ever
September 22, 2012
This is the best jacket I have ever owned. I love how light this jacket is. Yet, it kept me warm during the Michigan winter. Warmth without the bulk!!Pros: very warm, lightweight
Warm and Cozy
January 31, 2011
I purchased this jacket for general winter wear and am pleased with the fit and quality of the product. It is perfect for everyday wear, not too heavy while still warm. The fit is cute and cut just right for my 5'8" frame and the sleeves are nice and long. I ordered a small and have plenty of room for layering.
November 10, 2010
Love Patagonia products and this one doesn't disappoint. Comfy and warm with great style!!Pros: Great design, Ease of use
December 27, 2009
The fit is perfect. The color and style are just what I expected from Patagonia.
A nice not bulky jacket
November 06, 2009
I like the length of the jacket, and I like the fact that it is not too puffy and bulky. As it is only fall, I have not tested it in the really cold weather, but it was great this morning when it was our first really cold dog walk.
