Better than expected! I got this coat as a Christmas gift for my wife for our chilly weather in WA. It not only keeps her warm and cozy, but it's also really cute on, and goes with everything (color: Forge Grey). At first she was concerned with the length, but she consistently gets compliments on its longer length, even with boots - She is 5'6". She especially likes the flattering hourglass cut of the waist with mininmal "puff" in the design. Since its Patagonia quality, She expects to get good use from it for years to come! January 30, 2012
Nice, but this length is not very flattering I live in CO and needed a warm winter coat. I was very excited about this jacket, especially the Prussian Blue color. I am 5ft7in 135 lbs and the S fit well. It is a nice jacket, seems like good quality, but it is just not flattering on me. It looks a little bit like I'm wearing a quilt. For this price, I needed perfection. I have concluded that jackets of this length cannot be flattering. I returned it without wearing outside, so can't comment on the warmth. January 28, 2012
great coat I have gotten a number of coats and returned them. This is a keeper. I love the long length for walks on cold winter days. I like that the down is very light. I do not feel the weight of the coat. I color is wonderful, I like the gray. I may need to exchange it for a medium. I was concerned that I would not be able to put a sweater underneath. I large may be too roomy. I am 5'3 1/2" and 130lb. I have lost 27 lbs and am not looking for a coat that is too big. I overshot with the size. I am still going through a body image change. this fits my needs for keeping warm. Today was 20 degrees and my walk outside was warm and toasty. January 16, 2012
Excellent Winter Jacket I purchased this coat to help keep me warm during the Northeast winters and have been extremely happy with my purchase. The coat is a bit pricey but definitely worth it. It's nice and long, reaches down to my calves and fits snug in the waist so I don't look like a marshmallow. I don't like being cold at all and this coat keeps me very warm and blocks the wind well. I'm 5'8" and about 125 lbs and got the small and it fits well. I ordered the xsmall too but liked the small better because I can put heavier sweaters on underneath. It's definitely worth the $$, I plan on wearing it for several winters. January 7, 2012
Long down coat--great if you want full coverage I bought the medium and long because I wasn't sure of the size. The medium fit (I am 5 feet 4 inches 145 pounds). However it was a little too long for me so I returned both of the coats. Also I did not care much for the plastic snaps which did not seem too sturdy for me. I will continue my quest for a medium length down coat!! January 2, 2012
The warmest long parka for winter I went hunting for this long parka...started at other web sites and some said they have it...BUT - ALTREC was the only company that had it especially in BLACK. It is a great parka...I live in NYC and this morning we had 25F and I was wrapped in my parka -it felt like I have never left the bed...funny. I am 5.7 and the XL permits an extra layer of Arcteryx Atom if needed. My only comment is that the hood is a bit loose and they need to improve it a bit to make it more of a tight fit-but otherwise this Patagonia Parka should keep you super warm during the winter. Get it at ALTREC -they have all the choices in colors and seizes. December 29, 2011
warm, warm, warm Pricey, not a great color for me (the Prussian Blue is a blue/grey), not the most flattering (let's face it, most down coats look like sleeping bags). But when I put it on all was forgiven because it is so wonderfully warm! The pockets could be a little bigger (especially the interior chest pocket), but that's my only styling gripe. The shawl collar makes it different from your garden variety long down coat and there is a bit of shape in the cut so you still look like a girl (albeit a puffy one). The usual Patagonia attention to quality is evident. I might not be the most fashionable woman on the street, but I will be the warmest! December 28, 2011
good jacket. not a true outdoor jacket, but great for cold everyday jacket. great jacket hands down. if i had to say the cons of the jacket, it would be the zippers seem to be not the best(but still good). December 10, 2011
Very disappointed I purchased this parka hoping it would be the answer to staying comfortable out in the wind and snow. The hood offers very little protection. It has an extremely unflattering gathered elastic look that goes right across the top of my forehead. The hood is just way too small for this very long parka. It looks totally out of proportion. I do like how the flaps fold over and offer neck protectioin. That is nice. However there are no cuffs to block the wind from blowing up your sleeves. Every time the wind blew, I felt it up my sleeves, and the wind went right through the parka. I had to put multiple layers of polar fleece on, just to keep the cold out. I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. Patagonia skimped on MANY important features that make for a warm winter parka. Disappointed, this parka will be returned, and my search for a warm winter parka continues. December 10, 2011
I really like this down parka of Patagonia, and it is very warm when I wear it in the cold wind weather. Its quality is pretty good as described, but it's a little big for me. November 23, 2011
A down coat that actually flatters! I bought this coat is the Prussian blue for my sister who at 5'3'' and 105 lbs fit into the small perfectly, and couldn't resist trying it on, even though I knew it would be a size too small for my proportionately larger 5'6" frame. And our mother who would need an extra small couldn't wait to try it either. The coat actually looked stunning on all of us--long lean and (YES!) glamorous and my husband thought I should get one for myself at once. And it feels silky soft and light. Best of all, it has kept my sister warm and dry on the snowiest days we've had this winter (and we expect it to work just as well when the thermometer drops in January). Now, I'm waiting until I can find it in black in a medium to order one for myself. November 21, 2011
Overall, a great jacket but too long I ordered this jacket in hopes that it would be a perfect jacket for winter temperatures. It had great reviews and was a longer jacket, which I initially liked. When it arrived I really liked the appearance, it wasn't too shiny and seemed to be made well. However, it was too long (I ordered a small, and I'm pretty average- 5'5" 125 lbs). It says in the description that it falls below the knee, which would've been fine; however, it fell almost to the ankles on me. If it had been just a few inches shorter I would have kept it, but it just wasn't a very practical purchase for me. There's no doubt that it would be a great option if you live somewhere that has frigid temps for several months. Not a bad jacket, just a bad length! September 9, 2011
Tried the coat on and it fit perfectly with just enough taper. I'm ready for the weather to get cold so I can bundle up in my new coat. I bought a coat for my daughter also and she looked just beautiful and it fit her perfectly. The coat felt so soft and warm against my skin. The quality of the coat felt like it was more expensive than it was. Thank you. August 15, 2011
Perfect winter coat Bought this for my girlfriend, who REALLY feels the cold. Bottom line- this is the warmest jacket she has ever owned, and she loves the stylish design- you get the warmth of a sleeping bag down below your knees, but without the bulk that makes you look like the Michelin man. Fact the hood can be "hidden" away only adds to the sense of style, while not sacrificing on functionality. Fit is good- I ordered her "normal" size (small), and there is ample room for her to layer up underneath. At 5ft 8in, jacket comes down to below her knees, and when combined with a pair of boots literally keeps her warm from head to toe. This jacket got me a LOT of brownie points- essentially, one of the best received gifts I have ever bought her. May 3, 2011
This is a great coat. It keeps the Chicago wind out and keeps me warm all the work. I love the fact that I can hide the hood. It fits very well. I did order one size up so I could layer under if I wanted and it fits exactly the way I wanted it to. March 10, 2011
I believe Patagonia is the best Down Jacket Brand in the world. This item does't disappoint me. it's extremely warm down jacket! I don't fear any cold weather since got it. It has many features, it looks very stylish, breathable, windproof and has a high quality like other patagonia items. I am very satisfied with it. March 2, 2011
Warm and very comfortable I bought this coat for a trip to Wisconsin in January. It has exceeded my expectations. It is light weight, close to ankle length, as I am 5'3" 150 lbs., and keeps out all the wind and cold. The large fit me perfectly with room for a sweater underneath. The brown is a beautiful shade and the cut of the coat is more slimming than most down coats. While traveling, I stuffed the coat into my small carry on bag. It stuffs down to nothing and pops out good as new. Others have had questions about the hood. I found that even walking into the wind it stayed in place and was warm. It has an elastic around the hood which holds it in place loosely, without having to tie anything. Some worry about the durability of the snaps and fabric, but I have owned many Patagonia items over the years and have never had a problem with any item and expect this coat to be problem free as well. I recently walked around Boston for two days during a cold snap and was warm and comfortable in this lovely coat. February 12, 2011
Utterly FABULOUS! Patagonia's Women's Downtown Parka is by FAR the most gorgeous warm and even super-warm coat out there! I have been looking for this coat for years!! I ALWAYS search for 800-fill down coats and never have I found one that fit the bill. They were always short! Geezz!! Hello, winter, here, need LONG COAT! And, VOILA, Patagonia got the galz messages and made this super fabulous warm as-all-get-out super stylish coat! Yes, its cinched in at the waist! Another request to the down coat designing gods! You can see from the pictures and videos on the makers website that it is nicely fitted. I love that! I was initially looking for a very long warm petite and stylish coat for my very stylist 90 year-old mum. When I found this one, I was astonished and ordered one in XS for her and S for me. When they arrived, I tried on both coats and the XS fit so much better. Just perfectly. I am 5'4" and 115 lbs and my mom is 5', 85 lbs. So, I sent the S back and replaced it with the XS for me too! The coat looks great on both of us. The hour-glass figure design is soo flattering. I never feel "oh-fey" or frumpy so to speak. Far from it. Always feel very much like we are expressing our sense of style instead of just trying to stay super warm. And, my mom is so picky. She won't wear something that doesn't flatter her. We go to the high mountains above Taos and Santa Fe and stay cozy cosy warm in these coats, wind, ice, snow and all! Love the "hidden" hood look. Very exotic and elegant. Super warm when you snap the top most snap under your chin and roll the hood up. Just phenomenal. We go out together and people just compliment us every time we go out and always ask us what coat it is and where to get it! I love giving them altrec to order it from. I think woman need fitted and stylish warm clothes and this is a PRIMO example of the best one!! Thanks Altrec for carrying this exquisitely made and designed product! January 20, 2011
Love this coat This is a wonderful coat: very stylish and warm. As others (including the manufacturer) have stated, it is a slim fit. What this means for this 5 ft 6 in/140 lb woman, that means that I can wear it with a midweight sweater, but not a bulky sweater. It is so warm and stylish, however, that I believe that I will most often be wearing it with light-to-midweights layers under it. The sleeves are long for me, but that should protect cold-sensitive wrists. I am very happy with my purchase. December 27, 2010
As comfy as a sleeping bag, only stylin'! I purchased this jacket because I am a teacher that has daily recess duty in Wisconsin. I have had many quality down jackets in the past but all were lacking one major component-no lower body coverage. As a result, I was forced to wear heavy-weight pants or layers with long johns, which was fine while I was outdoors, but too warm for inside. This longer length jacket is perfect! I have been wearing it for two weeks now, with temps in the teens, and I am snuggly warm! I do not need to layer anywhere, which is great when I return inside for the rest of the day. If I could improve on this jacket I would only add a cinch cord along the bottom hem to prevent those Northern gusts from blowing in! December 23, 2010
Love this coat! This coat is amazing! I usually wear several layers, in addition to a winter down coat, just to stay warm However, with this coat, i am able to dress as though it were 50+ degrees outside, in conditions where it is below freezing. The coat insulates well,, and is extremely fashionable. Since I've worn it, I receive compliments on it every time. The fabric is so soft, and filling is high quality. It's not bulky at all! Another feature I appreciate is that it can unzip from the bottom. This allows me to take bigger strides, and also have more options in staying warmer or cooler. Although it is spendy, it is worth every dollar! I never knew I could tolerate winter outdoor conditions and also be warm! December 18, 2010
Love this!! Great down coat.....love this because it is so warm, but I don't look like I am wearing a puffy sleeping bag, and I am small. Beautiful colors. I ended up with the grey, but the brown is really nice also. December 18, 2010
So far, so good! I just received this parka, and the first snowfall hit some weeks later (I live in a small college town in Illinois). So far, so good -- it looks amazing --like I'm in the Matrix!-- and is thus far warm enough. We'll see as it gets colder how the coat (with its promise of coziness at 800 fill) holds up to the freezing winds on the plains. My one concern going into the winter is the lack of cuffs either inside or attached to the sleeves; I'm a little worried about the winds sneaking up on partially-exposed wrists. Four stars only because the parka hasn't yet been tested in the worst of winter yet, and for the lack of wrist cuffs. December 8, 2010
Seems to be warm I first read many reivews from the net and most said it ran big. I am 5'4" tall and weigh 102 lbs. I ordered the extra small, it was way too small, I went to the small, still too small to wear a hoodie under it. The med is perfect. It is extremely lightweight, very easy to get in and out of the car with even though long. The weather here is just starting to get cold. It seems warm, but of course you need to layer some. A scarf for your nect is needed to keep the wind out but it adds to the style of the coat. Many people have complemented me on the coat. I really love it. Besides the length and comfort, the sleeve length is awesome. Most coats have too short of sleeves, these are nice and long. I would buy this coat again. Enjoy. December 8, 2010
Great coat but... I was so excited to get this coat! However, when I pulled it from the box I noticed a tag hanging from it that says "slim fit." Unfortunately, at 5'9" 225lbs. I am not a slim fit. Normally an XL would be fine but this time it is a little snug across the chest and shoulder area. I wish the description on the website would have indicated that this coat only comes in slim fit. It would have saved me the trouble of returning it. Otherwise, the coat looks great, seems to be very warm. If you are a "slim fit" then go for it! November 26, 2010
Almost perfect coat!!!! Good length, good warmth. I have this in the brown color, which is very pretty! It fits pretty true to size and has a nice fitted look. This coat looks awesome with anything-jeans, leggings w/boots. A shame. Elegant and warm. Comfortable. November 15, 2010
Curvy in down and off to the city. This Downtown Loft Parka is a beautiful coat - warm, elegant, fitted and well made. I ordered six down coats and this was the stand-out for it's unusual fitted silhouette and interesting color. Back went all the others, most more like zippered sleeping bags than tailored coats. I'm 5'7" and wear a size 8-10 so I ordered the medium which fits perfectly with room for a sweater underneath. The length is not only warm but also classic - think forties or fifties but with timeless style. The French Roast color is a rich purplish brown that is both unusual and stunning, and though the soft smooth satin has an understated sheen, it simply adds to the coat's allure. The rain resistant surface is a bonus, and the shawl collar/hood secretely (shhhh!) makes me feel like a dressed-up princess. Oh - and somehow the loft is warm without being too bulky. Pricey but heck - it's worth it! October 26, 2010
the best! this is the best down coat ever! no marshmallow look, this is really elegant and warm. i love the silky material feel. you won't be disappointed. i'm a size 8-10 and the medium fit perfectly with some room for a sweater underneath January 5, 2010
Light and almost not a This coat is just on the border between looking "elegant" and just a big puffy down coat. I ordered 3 different brands in black and this one was the winner by a long shot. I'm broad shouldered and take a normal 14. The XL fits and I still have room for one medium weight layer, and a thin turtle neck. October 1, 2009
